Love the hair and knit. A new rule for myself is waiting till a book is in paperback - that way I don't just read bc of the hype, but bc it's naturally time.
I read Ivan as possibly being neurodivergent to some degree. In my mind this explained his difficulty connecting to others and lack of empathy. I enjoyed all of these characters. Intermezzo was one of my top reads this year ❤. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts and thanks for the video 😊
spoilers for those in the comments! but i also much preferred peter's chapters, i loved the exploration of theory and praxis. i feel like intermezzo is rooney's heaviest hand with her commentary on politics and especially academic politics/theory which i think i like more than the subtle class commentaries her other books had. i think peter's perspective was so realistic in the ways we think never match the ways we act and we all have the capability to be a bad person. hurting someone is bad systemically, but also bad interpersonally and i loved that peter experienced shame lol. maybe it's just me but i feel like people are sooo afraid of feeling shame (and it sucks so i get it) but i feel like it's stopping a lot of growth from happening. and i think the lack of shame leads to someone like ivan! someone so stuck in the way they think and knowing they are right 100% of the time and having zero nuance in the relationships they have with others. and it excuses him when he treats other people like crap. also he was just fully an incel and i like ???? when people said they liked ivan more i was like did we read the same thing 😭 i also have to say soo much of their dynamic feels very classic older brother younger brother relationships too!
the hair and the sweater are gorggg!! so glad you loved intermezzo, it was one of my faves this year

That is a good point! His neurodivergence does add context to his story arc
That’s an amazing sweater! 👏👏👏🔥. I know, making your own clothes is insane, right? I’m really interested in Intermezzo now!
It really is magic! Working on a new one as we speak
