I feel the same way about All this could be different ! I honestly didnt finish it and was surprised that it annoyed me so much because it seemed to have everything I would enjoy. Nice video and happy new year !
what a fab reading year for you!!! v intrigued by In Memory of Memory and keen to hear your thoughts on it when you finish. wishing you a wonderful reading year in 2025!!! much luv to ya <333
Love ya Nathan! I think u would be into Memory of Memory, and maybe understand some of the literary references more than me
happy new year ceren!! i recently got Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid out of the library and hearing you talk about it so highly has bumped it up to the top of the tbr :)
I think you’ll really like Lucy! She feels so alive on the page
I read Ivan as possibly being neurodivergent to some degree. In my mind this explained his difficulty connecting to others and lack of empathy. I enjoyed all of these characters. Intermezzo was one of my top reads this year ❤. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts and thanks for the video 😊
That is a good point! His neurodivergence does add context to his story arc
the hair and the sweater are gorggg!! so glad you loved intermezzo, it was one of my faves this year
that orange is so dreamy!! you’re making me want to cast on a new project!!
I think it’s about time for a new project 🧶
spoilers for those in the comments! but i also much preferred peter's chapters, i loved the exploration of theory and praxis. i feel like intermezzo is rooney's heaviest hand with her commentary on politics and especially academic politics/theory which i think i like more than the subtle class commentaries her other books had. i think peter's perspective was so realistic in the ways we think never match the ways we act and we all have the capability to be a bad person. hurting someone is bad systemically, but also bad interpersonally and i loved that peter experienced shame lol. maybe it's just me but i feel like people are sooo afraid of feeling shame (and it sucks so i get it) but i feel like it's stopping a lot of growth from happening. and i think the lack of shame leads to someone like ivan! someone so stuck in the way they think and knowing they are right 100% of the time and having zero nuance in the relationships they have with others. and it excuses him when he treats other people like crap. also he was just fully an incel and i like ???? when people said they liked ivan more i was like did we read the same thing 😭 i also have to say soo much of their dynamic feels very classic older brother younger brother relationships too!
Haha people do need to experience shame more!!
This is so well put! I agree, I liked the theory aspects of this book as well
Love the hair and knit. A new rule for myself is waiting till a book is in paperback - that way I don't just read bc of the hype, but bc it's naturally time.
That’s such a good point, and paperback is always such a better reading experience in ur hand
That’s an amazing sweater! 👏👏👏🔥. I know, making your own clothes is insane, right? I’m really interested in Intermezzo now!
It really is magic! Working on a new one as we speak
love the knitted top! such a beautiful orange 🧡
Thank u Nathan!
this was, as promised, a good balm for my current winter blues. knit looks beautiful!
Thank you sophie! 💜
i watched this video while knitting a scarf and now im about to read intermezzo!
Perfect combo!
wait I’m also watching the extended LOTR’s for the first time this weekend!!!
And how does it feel to be going through such a formative experience??
i love this video format!! also obsessed with the new haircut, suits you so well!!
Ah thank u! I love it
Loooove The Rachel Incident!! Your knits are soooo gorgeous ahh! I’ve been meaning to switch from crochet to knitting but I’m nervous ahah
Don’t be! They’re very different but I think you’ll find knitting a bit more meditative once you get everything set up because you don’t have to think of each row the same way as with crochet - at least in my experience
@ ooooo that is a good point!! Maybe I’ll have to get back into it. I think I just forget how to knit in the round so I’ve been scared off aha
loved yr thoughts on the ferrante - I’ve never thought about the ebb and flow of intense episodes represented in the story in that way, and you’re def right. on the topic of books from the 60s [partially] set in berkeley and following a [sometimes] unlikable protagonist, I can’t remember if you’ve ever read Cassandra at the Wedding? would recommend if you haven’t the knits look so good!
Yes I LOVED Cassandra at the wedding - what a romp of a story
And thank you sophie! 💟
The Rachel Incident sounds so interesting!! maybe i will find it on audiobook to listen to as i knit :) i also read The Lost Child this year and was definitely thinking a lot about autofiction in relation to ferrante, and elena's kinda vindictive writing of lila's life. have you read In The Margins? if not i would recommend - she talks about the metanarrative aspect of her novels and it was so fascinating library cookbooks 4ever!! i haven't cooked from that book from carla but i enjoyed some of her recipes from That Sounds So Good! loveee the stickers - i think i had a version of the butterfly sticker book 🦋 the prima pullover looks so good!! and the green yarn!! so gorgeous and festive for winter🐸
i second the recommendation to read in the margins!
Absolutely need to read in the margins - feels like the perfect thing to read after finishing the series.
I want to put butterfly stickers on everything
thank you so much for the kind words about my pattern 🥹🖤 it is such a great winter sweater for showing a lil shoulder but still being cozy!!
Of course! Love your stuff - come back to TH-cam we miss u
@@batumanslittleidiot 🥺💗 i miss y’all too, trying to find my way back soon!!!
If you liked Crossing, you might like And then we danced from the same director! It's one of my fave movies, so beautiful
Thank u for the rec! I’m adding it to the list
can't wait for the Intermezzo vlog!!! and looove that you pull cook books from the library honestly that is so smart why haven't i thought of that
the library is a beautiful treasure chest I’m constantly forgetting
yayyy welcome back!! always love your videos hehe
Thank u 💟
welcome back ^__^ fruit n water paying off glowwwww i love the unedited candid stuff
:)) thank u !! I’m a wellness girlie now
i am here for the new Ceren! but of course have always loved the old you which is to say i love you and would love to see more of you! so so happy the Heti made an impression on you! it's so whimsical and wonderful. and the Pratt x ASAP Rocky song is sooo good took my by surprise as well !
I love u too Nathan!
The rap and indie gods came together and put crack into that song
omg i was admiring your top the entire video and then when you said you made it!! did you use a pattern? love how the fabric drapes! also so feeling the peach + tomato mood this summer - i made a really delicious salad with that and hot honey balsamic vinaigrette 🥰 so happy to see you back on booktube!
Yes it’s the vacation vest by park Williams!
Need to get a gift for a friend, who's a student of Linguistics, and The Idiot by Batuman (which I read and adored) came to mind as an obvious choice, but this video might broaden my choices! Thank you for this!!
love this
This vlog is perfect! I loved every second of it.
Omg thank u I’m flattered 💗
loved this vlog!! that potato salad looked so delicious 🥰
I had one of those moments when u wake up and realize something like potato salad exists and then I had to make it
love ur vlogs<3
Thank u! 💟 Is there anything else you’d like to see more of?
@@batumanslittleidiot recipes and knitting :)
First, thanks for reminding me about that book! I’ve just begun knitting. Someday, I’ll be able to knit the Monday sweater! I’m knitting my first project…the “wheat” scarf from Tin Can Knits. What yarn are you using? I love the color! Also, ok one more knitting comment…you’ve got wooden needles. I think I prefer wood too. I just bought my first set. 😊
Exciting that you’ve started knitting! It’s so fun to realize all the things u can make - and the Monday sweater isn’t as hard as it looks I promise
I’m using the cascade brand superwash merino wool yarn in the dk/worsted weight i think
Yes wooden is so nice! And getting a set of interchangeable ones changed my life
First and foremost- you’re reminding me I need to plan a trip up to the Russian River! Loved seeing these little moments from your life and hearing your updates!
Yes Russian river is so beautiful!
Also I’s love to meet up sometime for coffee in the area!
my debut... im winning the acting challenge. also this format is gorgeous & i wish more wrap-ups interspersed daily living w/ reading thoughts
i'm also a fiend for food writing/restaurant worlds! i loved kitchen confidential and would recommend heat by bill buford - it is an older publication but it has a similar atmosphere. also blood, bones and butter by gabrielle hamilton, it's not a fave but it's kind of hardcore. and the cook by maylis de kerangal (more of a poetic essay). :-)
your birthday weekend looked so dreamy!! i’d really like to do a reread of checkout 19 soon, i loved hearing you talk about it!! i think i read it too early on in my reading journey to fully appreciate it. i think you’d really enjoy pond!!
Thank u! I agree I think I would love Pond but I’m saving it for when I’m really in slump. I don’t know if you “save” certain books too?
loved hearing your musings on Y/N! i wished the ending had made its mark, but i loved the overall themes and thoughts on obsession, especially coming from fangirl/fanfic culture. i was that tumblr girlie!!! and OOP! i also did not like All of Us Strangers. the ending really put a bad taste in my mouth. but wowwee love her in her letterboxd era! more films in 2024!!!
Tumblr girls will never fade ! Also yeah the movie was giving trauma p*rn
Missed you! I DNF'd Y/N last year, I agree that I can see some readers either loving or hating this.
It’s definitely a marmite one !
Ohh nice 🙂. from Bangladesh.th-cam.com/video/vx19aHX6P_E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kznuxfmcA0u4jhXx
you have the prettiest house omg
ahhh i wanna read in my mother languages too but i always go for french translation or sum :( it’s so hard to stay motivated and finishing it. also ur so right abt getting tired of “isolated depressed women fic”same thing happened to me with “la women being weird and unhinged” kind of genre lmao even tho im still reading it i don’t have that much of fun as i used to (loooved ur channel btw <33)
Thank u!! I totally agree, I feel like I need a whole new niche to get excited about but I’ll feed off my weird women lit fic for now
i rewatch this often, videos like these are like catnip for me and this one is especially relaxing and inspiring. u inspired me to order a cousin (i'm easily influenced),, i've always been a notebook/journal girl but i've never successfully used a planner. i'm trying to use it low stakes like u do. i hope it fixes my life lol
This made me so happy to hear!! Thank u 💟
I’m constantly fighting the tension between wanting to be chill about a planner and also wanting it to fix my life
Most of the footnotes in If An Egyptian Cannot Speak English explain nothing, they're purposefully wrong because the narrator is unreliable.
Yeah I loved that part as well! Such a strong way of messing with the trust of the reader to the narrator
the mary jo bang :')
This was very interesting to see how you use your various notebooks! I’m using the hobonichi techo this year and loving it so far! Also love Midori notebooks for every day notes and commonplace books!
My friend uses the techno and really likes it! Would love to see u do a video on it too
ahh!! ty for sharing!!! i want to go through my hobonichi and show u how i'm using it too!! i want to start common placing. i used to collage so much maybe i need to return return to it. also your Y/N drawing!!!!!!!!!! so good!
Please I’m waiting for the planner walk through
how the hell did i miss this on my subbies page?!!! this is my roman empire, im buckled alllllll the way in
Ive always seen the capital J Journalers use Hobonichis and think ive been intimidated? So I deeply appreciate this walk-through
The year in review thing is SUCH a game changer: ive been using a goodnote planner that i made on canva for my like life admin stuff, but im tempted to try a planner next year. Im gonna just steal this page idea though cause im obsessssed
Loved this!
Is what ur using right now physical or digital ?
Yeah it gets really scary seeing everyone pull out all their tools ! like what am I getting myself into
this was so relaxing to watch!! i can never keep up with journaling/physical planners but i absolutely love watching videos related to it
These types of videos are so addicting !
I loved this so much! Been thinking of getting a Cousin for a while but every video i've seen of people using it made it seem almost daunting but this is so accessible! also love the drawings you did <3
Thank u! Yes u should totally get one and just do what u want with it! Mine will definitely not have every page filled out this year
i loveee this video so much! i have very much been doing the same this year with the knitting patterns & recipes & reflections on media!! the collages are such a lovely way to keep memories 🥰👼🏽
Yes!! Please share those reflections
I use a soft back red Moleskine for the journaling you do in your black one. And I’m exactly the same way…I write my thoughts down when I need to think some things out, etc etc. and I don’t look back. I do date my entries. I loved this video!
Yes I tend to date my entries too!
loved this!! the notebook with the thin pages is so beautiful wow
I wish I remembered what the notebook is called so I can repurchase
