Coach Gary Redus most definitely deserves a lot of credit. He most definitely be on the recruiting trail hard. I'm glad LSU said there is no way we're paying 1 million dollars just for a player to play. My thing is that player going to be able to produce right away and give that team some added value to the team.

I have a feeling that her parents are pushing her to ask for $1 mill after seeing angel and flauje make millions but the problem is that she doesn’t have the social media presence (or marketing tbh) to be making THAT much money. If you’re asking for a million before you even step on the court you better be a superstar off the court. Otherwise it’s just way too much. I’m glad that LSU took their name out of the running because that does not reflect well on her or her team.

As a Texas fan, I think many are being too presumptive about Chavez since the $1M NIL request came out. I view it as just that - a request. Teams can negotiate from there. I do hope Texas gets her but not at the risk of getting other recruits. Texas Tech recently gave $1M deal to softball sensation Canady and Chavez’ was very high on her recent OU visit so it’s not a given that Texas gets her. Vic Schaefer will be smart, and while he wants her, he doesn’t have to have her. Rori received a medical waiver for next year and may return. Booker will be back. Texas has a Top 5 freshman class this year including guards Jordan Lee and Bryanna Preston and already has the commitment of guard Aaliyah Crump #5 player in next year’s class.
LSU's baseball team got the #1 player in the transfer portal in Paul Skenes a few years ago and he didn't even get close to a million dollars. Around 200k tops. And he was a proven talent at the college level who went on to be the #1 overall MLB pick. A million dollars to a high schooler seems a bit rich, but I don't fault her for trying.
I appreciated the need for NIL after I watched The Program. It’s a very gritty movie about college football that shows you the raw side of it. I’ll never forget the scene where players were given envelopes of money from boosters just like a drug deal. That was normal before NIL. I still can’t believe the movie was that honest. College sports was never innocent even if we like to believe it is. Nothing is perfect but I think NIL is the best idea for now.

I think Aaliyah Chavez is being failed by the adults surrounding her. She’s going to receive the backlash and suffer the consequences, but I think it’s more indicative of her parents and mentors character than her own.

If she doesn’t really care about basketball then I hope she finds something she loves, and if she is motivated by basketball then I hope she develops into a person who is able to make good decisions.

If Flau’jae leaves after this year, the only lock for next year will be Mikaylah. And, just like we saw this week, Kim may play her at the 4, so I think this is okay. But we do need to land a post player this year or in the portal for sure.
