How is it an heirloom of your heritage when it was built as a Christian church? You can own it and possess it and do what you will with it. But history will always know its a Christian church.

Lol it shows the Strength of Turkey. They brought down the Romans and this Mosque shows that. By your analogy nothing you by or own can be your Heritage, if you personally didn’t make it.
The old watch of my Grandfather, which is over one Hundred Years old is part of my Heritage, and I surely didn’t make it

@@shaq6976 that watch was from the same culture and family. The hagia Sophia was built a Christian church and thus has Christian heritage. It was a mosque and thus holds similar value to the newer inhabitants of byzantium. Ypur watch probably didn't also belong to thousands of other people. Its small, important to a few people. Hagia Sophia was important to millions. Additionally. The turks were not the ones who killed the roman Empire, they were but one of the thousand nails in the empire's coffin and so happened to be the last.

@@shaq6976 Your Grandfather presumably purchased that watch (or made it himself, if he had the ability) and then _chose_ either through leaving a will or implicitly through family inheritance to pass it down the family line to you. At no point was the watch stolen from someone against their will. But the Hagia Sophia was taken by force. The proper analogy here would be you inheriting a precious heirloom that your grandfather had stolen from another family (though I'm sure he was a far more noble man than Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror).

And the mosque (current church) had been built over the site of an old Visigothic Christian church, and that was used by both Christians and muslim. But the Emir Abd al-Raḥmān had the brilliant idea of destroying the Christian church.

Unification accomplished actually in the counsil of florence/ferrara. But even then , you never sent help against the mongol/Turks. Your hate against eastern christianity was so sickly big, thst you were dreaming of a world where all trace of eastern christinity desapears. Now all the mosaics depicting the Christian elements are covered, and the beautiful marble floors are covered by green carpets. There is also segragation between men and women. You also need to dress modestly. In short, don't expect it to be the same.

Erdogan wan't to rebuild the Ottoman Empire. Secular Turkey is slowly dying, but that was mainly its own fault. For many years the secular nationalists lived in the cities and ignored the majority poorer Turks in the rural. Erdogan played on that and in 2002 he got himself elected as prime minister. Then in 2012 he became president and turned Turkey into a presidential autocracy. We must not forget that the secular Turkish state was never tolerant nor liberal, this is how Erdogan was able to use the existing authoritarianism to enforce his Ottoman nationalism. Turkey raised its children to be dogmatic nationalists since 1923, now a reactionary dictator has used that nationalism to bind the state to his will.

This kind of nationalistic thinking isn't helpful. The capital of the modern nation state of Greece is Athens. The Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire was never "Greece" - it was a multi-ethnic autocracy where Greek language and culture predominated, but its citizens always called themselves "Romans" even up to the end of the empire, not "Hellenes" (Greeks) as citizens of modern Greece do today. So modern Greece is not and never was the Roman/Byzantine Empire, which is now ancient history. I don't agree with Turkey's decision to make this sacred site into a mosque, *but* the wise response would be to forgive them in the name of God and do your part to keep the peace with your Turkish neighbor. Even Jesus told us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

HAGIA IN THE TIME OF THE BYZANTINE EMPIRE
The construction of the Hagia Sophia dates back to the Byzantine Empire, when the Ancient Roman Empire collapsed. The Hagia Sophia we see today is not the same as the Hagia Sophia built by the Byzantine empire in the past. The first Hagia Sophia was built during the reign of emperor Constantius II. It is named Magna Ecclesia which means Great Church. The construction of this church began in 346, applying the ancient Roman architecture using the concept of building a basilica building. Once completed, the Great Church was inaugurated by a bishop named Eudoxius of Antioch on February 15, 360. The Great Church was built close to the palace and this church was very large compared to other churches throughout the empire. This feature is the reason why Hagia Sophia was first called the Great Church, then a great monument in the world of architecture. After a long time the Great Church became the mother of the Byzantine church, the archbishop of the Great Church named John Chrysostom had a big fight with the wife of the emperor Arcadius named Aelia Eudoxia. The emperor was furious and chased Chrysostom out of the pafa empire on June 20, 404. As a result of the archbishop's removal, a revolt from the Great Church took place in protest of the exile. To stop the rebellion of the Great Church, the church was burned at the emperor's command as a reminder that no one could oppose it. Until now there is not a single remnant of this Great Church. Entering the reign of emperor Theodosius II, he ordered an architect named Rufinus to build a second Hagia Sophia using the same plan as the Great Church but with a wooden roof. The church was inaugurated on October 10, 415. However, the second Hagia Sophia was set on fire again during the Nika Rebellion on January 13-14, 532.
As a result of the people's uprising against the emperor, the second Hagia Sophia was left with only what is left by the Turkish government today. Among the remains of the second Hagia Sophia are several blocks of marble that have religious carvings. One of them is a block of marble carved with 12 sheep. According to Byzantine Christian culture, the 12 goats represented 12 prophets / messengers. A few weeks later, on February 15, 532, the then Byzantine emperor Justinian I planned to build the third Hagia Sophia but the church he was going to build is different construction structure not same just like previous renovation. It was very large, unique, and more prestige . Justinian I chose a geographer named Isidore of Miletus as engineer and another mathematician named Anthemius of Tralles as architect of Hagia Sophia. Beginning with the construction project, marble was exploited extensively from all over the empire and more than 10,000 workers were mobilized. This made the project the largest construction project in the history of the Byzantine empire. After 5 years and 10 months of construction, the third Hagia Sophia was finally completed and inaugurated by Justinian I and a saint named Means on 27 December 537. This Hagia Sophina has a variety of functions besides being a place of worship and refuge for victims of crime, among them is a priest's seat. The highest Orthodox Christian called the Orthodox Patriarch of Constantinople. The church also made it a place for royal relatives to hold ceremonies such as birthdays. Hagia Sophia is indeed magnificent, corresponding to the position of the Byzantine Empire as the ‘Second Roman’ which served as the center of the spread of Christian teaching throughout Europe. However, Hagia could not avoid facing its traditional enemy, namely the earthquake. From the reign of Justinian I to the time of the collapse, earthquakes constantly shook Constantinople until Hagia's dome was repaired to ensure Hagia remained strong. There are some Byzantine emperors modifying the Hagia in addition to improving it. Like emperor Basil II, after the earthquake on October 25, 989, the dome of the western part of Hagia collapsed. So he ordered the architect of the cathedral (cathedral) named Trdat to build a new dome. This construction takes 6 years to complete. While the dome was being built, modifications were made such as the addition of a Jesus / Prophet Jesus painting on the inside of the main dome. In 1202, the Fourth Crusade took place and Constantinople was conquered by the Crusaders. During the establishment of the Crusaders' government in the Greek Peninsula, the Roman Empire took control of Constantinople and made Hagia Sophia a Roman Catholic cathedral.
It is said that the tomb of the head of Constantinople was captured by Enrico Dandolo in Hagia but the tomb was destroyed when the Byzantines experienced a period of collapse. Entering 1261, the Byzantines succeeded in recapturing Constantinople from the Crusaders. When the emperor visited Hagia again, the condition of the church was so bad that it almost collapsed. Efforts to preserve Hagia became active again beginning with the reign of the emperor Andronicus in 1317. HAGIA IN
THE Ottoman TURKISH PERIOD May 29, 1453, Historic date for both empires in Eastern Europe. For the Byzantines, this was the date of the collapse of the empire which had long been the ‘Second Roman’ in the Christian world. For the Ottoman Turks who had just become the fourth Islamic kingdom in the Middle East, this date was the date of their victory in liberating Constantinople and making Asia Minor (Turkey) a strategic land in the expansion of the Islamic world. When the fort of Constantinople collapsed, Sultan Mehmed II or Muhammad Al-Fateh ordered the Turkish army to plunder all the property in Constantinople for 3 days. Later, the sultan and his army entered the city and celebrated their success. Al-Fateh did not encourage his army to attack the people of Constantinople, as the sultan of the previous Islamic government practiced during the government's expansion campaign. Instead, Al-Fateh instructed the residents to return to their homes safely, without having to worry about the safety of those in danger. Al-Fateh then entered Hagia Sophia. Many vulnerable people such as women and children as well as priests took refuge in the Hagia. Al-Fateh ordered the residents who took refuge out and sat in their homes, then declared Hagia Sophia as a mosque. The scholars who appeared with Al-Fateh continued to chant the call to prayer, as a sign of the conversion of Hagia status from church to mosque.
HAGIA IN THE TIME OF THE TURKISH
REPUBLIC In 1935, the first Turkish President who founded the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, made Hagia Sophia a museum. Ataturk's actions were carried out to succeed in the process of Turkish secularism without any Islamic influence. Carpets and marble floors were removed and patches covering Byzantine Christian paintings were opened. However, Hagia's condition is worrying. Hagia's copper roof cracked, causing water to drip onto the mosaic floor. The increase in groundwater is also the cause of the damp conditions on the floor, creating an imbalance of the building. Thus, non-governmental organizations such as the World Monuments Fund strive to ensure that Hagia remains protected. As long as Hagia is a museum, it is the second must-visit location in Turkey by attracting 3.3 million domestic and foreign visitors a year. Any worship or prayer is haram performed in Hagia. In 2006, the Turkish government held a special small room in the museum for Muslim and Christian staff to perform worship. Calls for worship time have been allowed twice a day since 2013. Many efforts by Turkish diplomats to change the position of Hagia Sophia to become a mosque again like deputy prime minister Bülent Arınç who proposed a change of status in Hagia in November 2013. In November 2016, a non-governmental organization called the Association for the Protection of Historic Monuments and the Environment Hgia as a mosque, but the government's answer is to keep Hagia as a museum. Entering the year 2018, only then did the people hope to make Hagia a mosque again when the latest Turkish President named Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the same thing, only to get the response of the Turkish people. Furthermore, Erdogan wants to establish a Turkish society that is fully centered on Islam, not through politics, but through the return of the people to their origins. So, the effort to restore Hagia as a mosque again is Erdogan's subtle weapon. Effort after effort, on July 10, 2020, only the Turkish State Council that ruled Turkey allowed Hagia Sophia to function again as a mosque, although its role as a museum is still not lost.

Alhamdulillah. The Hagia Sophia was built as a Greek Orthodox church. During the Crusade, it was conquered and converted to a Roman Catholic church. It was converted again to a Greek Orthodox church during the Byzantines. In 1453, Sultan Fatih conquered Constantinople. He bought the Hagia Sophia (yes he purchased the Hagia Sophia) and there are documents to prove it, even though he had a right to get it for free since it was a military conquest. After the purchase, he converted it to a mosque. See the difference? Non-muslims simply destroyed mosques after every conquest (some are even converted to nightclubs). Later, that useless Attartuk converted it to a museum. So, kudos to Erdogan for setting it straight by converting it back to a mosque.

Muslims kept commenting that Sultan Mehmet bought it. There are no evidence that he bought it. Hagia Sophia is the holiest shrine in Eastern Orthodox Christainity just like St Peter in Rome to the Roman Catholic or Masjid Al-Haram in Mecca to the Muslims. Devout Eastern Orthodox Christians will never sell it regardless. They may sell non important churches but never Hagia Sophia. Sultan Mehmet owns it by the right of conquest and converting into a mosque presents a powerful statement that Constantinople aka Istanbul is now a Muslim city.

Or Turkey will use the next bout of political tensions with Greece as an excuse to plaster over the icons in "retaliation" for something Greece does that the Turks don't like. This could happen within a few years time, especially as Turkey is now carrying out petroleum exploration operations in waters near Greek territories that are within the Greek exclusive economic zone. This could soon boil over and give Turkey the "excuse" it needs.

It's not a claim, it's historically known to studied people, religious or secular, who are aware of Turkish Christian history before Islam took Turkey.
In every delusional Muslim mind who thinks that this was first a mosque don't even know their own history let alone the history of Christianity. And if they do, they ignore or think of it as unimportant.

    • @azubliss
      @azubliss 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hagia Sophia is historically known to be a Church. It's factual, not a claim.
What is a false claim is that it's a mosque. It never was a mosque in the beginning and the only reason this is happening is because of the pompous arrogance of radical Muslim Turks and their leader. People like you disregard the Christians in Turkey. There is no equity in Turkey unless you are Muslim.
If there were any respect, Erdogan would not be taking this step. But just like in history Islam tends to treat anyone who is not a Muslim like a second class citizen or even worse.
And the favorite past time of Islam is erasing history. It wants to erase real Turkish history (before Islam), Persian history (before Islam), Afghan history (before Islam), Indonesian history (before Islam), Moroccan history (before Islam).
And if they are not erasing history, they treat Christians and other groups terribly.
