I just happened upon this video this morning, and it brings back such wonderful memories. My family and I lived on Sisters Island for several years, which no doubt is near you…the background scenes look very familiar. I’m 73 now, and can honestly say those were the best day of my life. Thanks for prompting my memories!
Lots of beauty in this world, but what could be more dramatic and majestic than mountains, glaciers, forests, and ocean all combined together. I envy those that live in SE Alaska. Been to visit my children in Haines twice. Just plain heavenly. ❤
Yay for getting 4wheeler back on the job! I hope that you guys got the same sun and blue sky that we had today ☀️ First time that my toes have seen daylight since last summer 🦶🦶
So glad to have the green machine back on the island. Yes we just had two days of back to back sunny days. It felt so good. Glad your toes got to see some sunshine.👍

I begged to get stationed in Alaska when I was in the Army. Now im in my early 50s and retired and still want to live in Alaska. People call this a subsistence lifestyle, but I still see a lifestyle needing a lot of money to live there! I'm not sure if my little retirement of 5k a month would allow me to move out there and live on. I've been looking at land in the southern part of Alaska lately, and it's not priced too badly for 50 - 100 acers on a few different remote lakes, but it says "can be accessed by plane or snowmobile" in the ad. How do you get everything you own out to a 150 acer plot of land on a nice lake to build anything on if the only way in or out is an hour and a half snowmobile ride? I have so many questions!
The island looks alot smaller from above. You and Diana have handling the boat downpat smooth. How much has the gas price of going into town gone up for you ? Have a great week. Thanks for sharing.
The islands about 200 acres, so it’s definitely not huge. Gas has gone up a buck here, we notice the difference but still not disrupting our daily lives.
All fixed up and rolling again. Would be cool to have a boat like the captain has. Beach and unload. Bet his boat is pricey. Cool boots and waders. Makes sense to park where you do. Stay safe my friends!
We’d love a landing craft but they are heavy and we couldn’t pull it out of the water in the winter time. That’s the big downside to them. Other than that they are a perfect island boat.
Thanks for the great video Brian and Diana, I really am happy that you got the Honda back, my favorite brand of powersports hands down. I see that your snow is gone, we still have about 2 feet, it was melting but them we received a 0 ish fahrenheit cold spell, so I haven't a clue when the whitestuff will leave us. Please have a great and safe week You two!
Hope you guys are ok. You are+my number video so when you don’t show I get worried. Been watching you for a while I feel like we are family. Love you all from Cape Cod Massachusetts Stay safe
Howdy Brian, Diana!! Man, the pups are growing like crazy!!! Well, it's finally scheduled (if nothing happens to force a change of plans... like 90+ year old parents passing...). I plan on leaving south Texas on May 29 or 30th, and moving up to the property on the Kenai Peninsula near Ninilchik. I know, right... it's been a long time planning to get to this point. Now comes the real challenge... sifting, sorting, getting rid of everything that is not going (which is a lot). I'll be driving the truck, pulling a trailer with my motorcycle, new CF Moto 4-wheeler, and the truck has a topper on the back so that's where the 4 dogs will be riding. I'm guesstimating 10-12 days for the drive... maybe less if I find someone to ride along and help with the dogs, so I should be there by June 10th at the latest. I seem to remember that y'all went to fish the Kenai area once a year??? If you do come that way, let me know!! It would be awesome to meet up! I don't know if you follow "Sean In Alaska" or not, but he and I have developed a good friendship. He's wanting me to give him BRISKET lessons... so probably sometime in July or August we'll do that. Don't try to tell me that you don't miss good old Texas Brisket??? lol... We will probably do a joint video when we do the brisket. So keep that in the back of your mind should you happen to venture towards the Peninsula this summer. Those new boots and waders look really nice!! A couple of friends of mine from the channel "Wood and Waters Outdoors" just got a pair of those as well. I may have to seriously consider them. Take care guys!! Bill
Congratulations, that’s awesome. We looked all up and down the Kenai. Nice area. I think you’ll love it there. Who don’t love Texas brisket😂 I’m looking at boats and Ron’s Honda has Stabicraft. I maybe taking a trip up there someday to check out these boats in person.
That’s awesome. I bet you don’t miss the rain😂 Shelter would be a shorter boat ride. We do have a few friends that live over there though. Another great island.
I'm always happy to see your new videos. Funny thing... it makes me feel homesick even though I live in Alaska. It's just that I used to live in Juneau but am now stuck between the mountains up by Matanuska glacier (sigh?) We're still knee-deep in old snow right now. I'd like to smell the ocean sometimes I guess. Can't wait for your next adventure posted... love you guys :)
Is the island high enough to handle an 80-90 foot wave??? Many years ago I remember either an earthquake or high waves that destroyed some islands in Alaska.
Sue to our location we wouldn’t get hit directly by a wave but the ocean swell could cause some problems. We are about 170’ from the highest tide line.
Hi Brian and Diana. Good to see you today. That drone footage of the island was beautiful. You are lucky to live there. Your videos are one of m6 favorites. Keep them coming. I see you brought gas with you on this trip hope the prices weren’t too bad for you. You all take care. Good less you guys❤️🙏
Appreciate you 🙏 may I suggest when hooking your ramp on your tailgate that you add an additional ratchet strap from one of the rungs down to your receiver hitch to keep it from lifting off the tailgate on your approach....i mean no disrespect only offering help. God bless you and yours thank you for sharing your experience
Great video Brian. I always thought having a landing craft would be amazing for what you’re doing. Gas prices are going to make life a little more difficult for all of us. Take care.
I’d love a landing craft but they are so heavy. I’m not sure we could pull it out of the water in bad weather. Yeah hopefully gas prices will go back down but I don’t think they will. I think it’s going to get a lot worse before it gets better. We shall see. Say hi to Von for us.

You really need to get a small road grader out there somehow , just for a bit , to flatten and clear your road . A boat landing near to the house could allow visitors better access , since they're only there for a few hours .
One question comes into mind : how rich do you have to be to have so much equipment ? especially to go off grid which hikes the cost of any technology. I like my off grid experiences to be more rudimentary yet not less comfy. Adapting your technology to your environment is the smart move for me !
It’s not so much rich as it is smart. I paid off all my debt and saved up a bunch of money. When it was time to pull the trigger I had enough money to buy the cabin in cash. It took me 10 years of saving before I bought the place and we’ve been living here for 7 years now. I show what our real life off grid experience is. It includes all aspects. I could just build a log cabin and look like I’m really roughing it but faking it’s not my thing. What you see is what you get.
Ya need a rear 3 pt blade for the tractor. With the natural materials you have. You could build a solid road. And back-ups for the back-ups LOL. Know the feeling , we have double and sometimes triple. Town is 20min away and the city is 1hr. Great neighbours are family , our's is coming over with his mini-ex and big saw. Gonna give me a hand with the bigger trees in the build spot. Keep us updated on the boots. Been thru 3 pairs in the last 2 years. My current pair have maybe 5 mths of use. And are cracking in the sole and separating from the boot. Sucks when you pay $250 and they fall apart in mths.
That would be nice, I’d also like an auger and wood chipper but it all boils down to $$$ It’s always nice to have friends and family to help out. I’d only get 6 months out of my Muck boots and maybe a year out of the Xtratuf’s. I’m hoping these do better.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead We have a chipper. So far my least used investment. It's a 3pt design. If it was a stand alone . I might use it more often. As for the auger. We rented a Stihl 1 man auger for fencing. I wish I bought one. So easy to haul thru the bush and with the clay we have. It was minutes a post to drill. And that was drilling max depth. As for boots , my current set of Baffin made it thru the winter. A few more weeks and they will be put away till fall. My summer boots will need replacing . Gets expensive , footwear should last longer than 6mths .
It warmed up a bit down here in the POW area, I noticed you have 2 boat trailer s I wish I did, I could haul out at my house...One bite at a time I guess.
I just found your channel we moved fromm oregon to prince of whales in December after 5 yrs of debating between Ketchikan Juno and Sitka only partially off grid but love the people the beauty and the life thinking about doing videos myself of our build and teardown of what's on the land we bought building supplies are hard to get worst part of everything
That’s awesome. There’s a few guys that watch from POW. Not sure why it’s almost the exact same thing we are doing here😂 I’m glad that they stop by and leave a comment though.
Your wife’s boots in the UK would be called “Welles”! That’s because used to go proud of the second world war they were called wellingtons and the name was shortened. They do look like they the hold up to the job.
That was a great idea with the wheel on the front of the boat trailer there eh! I've never seen that before... I seen u had a rope that u hade the boat tied to when u 1st landed does the boat just float out or do pull it out away from shore? I have a channel in southeast Canada check it out when u can thanks for sharing
I just realized that you'll have two boat trailers. I have seen in other videos you going to town and taking the boat out of the water there also. I know You'll are happy to have the four wheel back on the island again.
Yes and no. It’s not harmful to them to swim or play in. If they get thirsty and drink salt water that’s bad for their system and usually ends up with them puking. If we go for long walks we will bring fresh water for the dogs to drink.
I hadn't realized the beauty of your island until this opening shot! I still say the constant going into town would hamper my decision to do what ya'll do, but ya'll have it down pat. Love ya'll ❤️
Brian- Just wanted to say thanks for another great video! You guys are awesome and I love your videos! Glad you got the 4-wheeler home and all is well! Stay positive and know that we love you guys! Cheers big guy!
Trim motor sounds great! And aren't quads fun?!! We love ours, pull the woodsplitter , the wood chipper, fire wood wagon, lots of fun stuff. Quads are a great tool.
When and for how long does the water freeze over if ever. I am from Southern California I know nothing of these things in regards to Alaska and seasonal ports. I know Russia has a port in Vladivostok, I believe which waters freeze and it is not operational year round.
It gets really windy here in the winter and we don’t get down into the negative temps so the passage doesn’t freeze. The harbor in the bay does freeze from time to time but not thick enough that the boat can’t break through it.
I would never make it in Alaska I leave my groceries that won’t spoil in my truck until I really need them that’s how much I hate grocery shopping and unloading it you guys have to do so much work to get the things you need Gotta give you credit you love where you live
Damn, you can't stop the video now. I was just going to a happy place watching this. I guess I'll have to subscribe. I pretty much do the same thing you do, but I do it on the Gulf Coast. Cold weather is not my friend. Great soul-cleansing video. Really appreciate it.
I was wrong! I bet that Jeep sure is handy to have for hauling stuff to the cabin. Hey Brian! Are you able to walk on that gravel bar to the lodge on the island of you, so that you can eat out now and then?
Ha at low tide you can walk between the islands. We’ve never went over there to eat. We should try it out sometime. Our friends on that island are the caretakers for the lodge. Making sure everything is good over the winter.

Man that water is beautiful!
It warmed up a bit down here in the POW area, I noticed you have 2 boat trailer s I wish I did, I could haul out at my house...One bite at a time I guess.
We started sleeping a lot better once we had the trailer at the island. It’s worth it.
I will find a way to move up there one day, I swear it
Can you share what wildlife you encounter ?
River otters, mink, marten, deer, eagles, Ravens, Crows and the occasional brown bear. Those are the main wildlife we see.
Very cool. New subscriber rang the bell and thumbs up. Very glad I stumbled upon this. Thank you very much and stay safe. From millet Alberta.
That’s awesome, thanks Dan.
Your wife’s boots in the UK would be called “Welles”! That’s because used to go proud of the second world war they were called wellingtons and the name was shortened. They do look like they the hold up to the job.
A friend of ours when she moved to America went to her neighbors and asked to borrow a rubber. Totally different meanings here 😂
Awesome VIDEO sorry I haven't been WATCHING your VIDEOS and others I just got home FROM the hospital stay safe OUTTHERE
Hope you are doing ok
Where you located...I saw you pull the boat out the water. Is it freshwater or saltwater there?
Salt water.
another question is why don't you move your cabin to where the boat is?
It’s heavy😂 kidding, that’s state land. I’d love to own the property, I’d build a boat house.
Awesome video. The filming and editing are exceptional. Thank you
Thank you Chris.
Logistics. After many years living remote you get pretty good at it. Forget just one item or it’s not available when your in town, you do without it.
That is very true.
Thank you for such a beautiful and interesting video. Please keep making videos. God bless wilderness people.
Thank you Ray
I truly admire your adventurous nature. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you
the dogs are having more fun
They sure are
Great video, great music.....
We have pulleys on anchors in the water and up on a couple of trees. We pull the boat out into the water.
I just realized that you'll
have two boat trailers. I
have seen in other videos
you going to town and
taking the boat out of the
water there also. I know
You'll are happy to have
the four wheel back on
the island again.
Yeah an old trailer came up for sale and bought it. It is nice have the green machine back on the island.
Does the salt water hurt the dogs in any way? Do you have to rinse they off or anything like that.
We go in more often than we need to. On our neighboring island they go in every 3 months. Thanks for the awesome support and have a great week.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead You as well my friend!
Brian- Just wanted to say thanks for another great video! You guys are awesome and I love your videos! Glad you got the 4-wheeler home and all is well! Stay positive and know that we love you guys! Cheers big guy!
Thank you for the awesome support. Love you all.
"What life!" Nice to know we can still live like this.
Thank you Brad, we love it.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead I have the idea to live on a Alberta river island like you.
How did you get that tractor out to that island? Most landing craft bow gates top out at 5 feet wide. Your tractor must be 7 or 8 feet wide.
Here is the video of the tractor coming over. It cost $1000.
th-cam.com/video/JrmB-DWNiUQ/w-d-xo.html
That is cool . I`ve never seen a landing craft like that before.
They are pretty handy to have. It’s like having a buddy with a pickup truck😂
Trim motor sounds great! And aren't quads fun?!! We love ours, pull the woodsplitter , the wood chipper, fire wood wagon, lots of fun stuff. Quads are a great tool.
They make life easier, that’s for sure.
You got the world's longest ramp, oh my gosh great backing up job.
Or the shortest ramp😂 we have 20’ to -5’ tides.
Merry Christmas Brian .
Merry Christmas Robert.
A busy fun day
I have a small island off Evans island , I feel for ya !
Nice
Very cool! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you.
Just found your channel subbed gotta binge watch now stay safe.
Glad you found us.
That’s so true. If you didn’t love it here life would be miserable having to bring everything over by boat.
So glad you are still on here maybe one day we can move there meaning Alaska pray to you all our safe god bless
Thank you Bobby.
Verry good
That’s a sweet boat. That’s convenient to have for a quad.
Very true
great teamwork. Have a good season.
Thank you
Damn, you can't stop the video now. I was just going to a happy place watching this. I guess I'll have to subscribe. I pretty much do the same thing you do, but I do it on the Gulf Coast. Cold weather is not my friend. Great soul-cleansing video. Really appreciate it.
This is definitely our happy place. 👍
Thanks for showing Brian! I always enjoy your videos! Have a nice week! Greetings Tom from Austria!
Thank you Tom. We hope you can get back soon. Covid seems to be on the decline.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead The flight to the Yukon is already booked! It goes by canoe down the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City! I hope I can enter Canada!
Bravo B... your living it Brother! You guys should really do well with the garden this year. And all gears are churning. Keep it Burning Buddy!
You got it buddy. We didn’t do any starts. We are planting straight into the ground this year.
That was a great video you guys.
Have a wonderful week..!!
Thanks Ron. You have a great week.
