Hats off to you nath for getting out in minus 6,bet you had the thermals on lol,I turned the heating up just watching you brother, perseverance pays of, one for catching and two,for bringing us excellent viewing to help make your great channel continue growing
I've got some jigs or perks with the hook ar the end of the jig by the fish eye and I think its a similar idea to your set up the idea being fished in deep water it look like the fish/jig is heading down feeding off the bottom and it won't get tangled as easy having the hook at the opposite end of the lure, but I've never seen the method you've just put on with the big ball lead attached to a soft lure, the way you explain it and showed how it will act under water makes perfect sense plus minimise your risk or snags. Appreciate the explanation of what lures n spinners your using as alot of videos don't show or explain terminal tackle and that's the most important part 👏 so thanks for the details 😊
Hooks at the head of the jig are called assist hooks and are great for when fish are feeding on the drop or when they're fished vertically. Glad you picked something up from this vid. Tight lines👍🎣
Hi Nathan, always enjoy your enthusiasm for the sport. Down on the North Kent coast (Whitstable) I use an orange coloured Red Gill Sandeel, 115mm on a 5ft trace behind a 30grm Bombarda float, wading out at low tide using a 12ft freshwater float rod. (I need the length to cast, but you can use a 9ft spinning rod). Simple cast and retrieve, the rod bends double with a 50cm Bass. My most successful catching lure.
I have a rattling deep diving plug with 2 treble hooks it has a joey mackerel look to it, I tried using it on many sessions with no joy so I'd switch to my old favourite the eddy jelly with a curly tail in blue always works that would be my choice lure, the one that looks like a joey mackerel has only caught me one tiny Pollack and it's the most expensive lure I've ever bought it was £12 fifteen years ago and now I could buy 4 × 10 packs of eddy jellys. Good show and atleast you didn't blank
Those eddy's are lethal. Never Had much joy on plugs for pollack unless I've been trolling them from the kayak. They do like a surface plug lure when fished in shallow weedy bays in the height of summer. Tight lines and thanks for the comment👍🎣
Fishing in -3c, with a breeze and the microclimate of the damp, cold cliffs! Dedication! I know you said you’re not the biggest fan of a Texas rig, but have you tried Tungsten slider weights? I fix mine in place with a float stop. The denser tungsten has a great sink rate and gives great feedback through the rod tip. Admittedly, I’ve only used them in shallower water and I haven’t lost any…yet! Fav lure: Patch 125! Great for covering water but also for raising fish, which is very useful for new marks. As for a lure I don’t use? Tricky to answer, but off the boat it would have to be a Fiiish BM. I weep at the thought of sub-size codling shredding those puppies! Though, they do work. Cheers
Got to get that fishing fix in mate. It's not that I don't like them, more I think chebs are better. I think I'd need to sell my house if I started using tungsten for pollack fishing. I'll definitely give them a go for the bass though. As for the lure question, it was poorly conceived, I should have stated for pollack/cod fishing. Totally agree on the patch 125 for bass (and summer pollack on Skye) first one out of my box for any bass session, unless it's totally still, then I downsize to the 100.
Great first video for 2023 mate and tight lines for the rest of the yr Nathan. You don't always need to catch fish to enjoy a day out, spectacular sunset, and a pod of Porpoise ? caught on camera..
I bought some Slug-go's years ago never caught a damn thing on them. I was struggling one day and lost some lures so I chucked it on and caught a bass lol. Storm Coastal 360 shad lures are my absolute favourite lure.
That's a good shout, Slug-go's are meant to be the nuts and I bought a pack when I first started lure fishing nearly 14 years ago and still not caught a thing.
Great video Nathan . Loved the.drone footage and the editing. Really surprised you didn’t wear any thin insulated gloves. Stay safe and tight lines. Mike
Good to watch as always mate. Braw day to be out Favourite lure have to be 28g razor claw silver minow. Just works!!...apart from the tin falling off...Still seems to catch though lol. Odd ball would be red jelly worms got cheap on ebay. Looked horrible so sat for about a year. Up stornaway last summer for work tried everything....red worm caught me my first wrasse. Then lost on next cast lol done the job though
Was wondering why you don't wear gloves mate , another entertainment video and good tips , I'll wait for summer for lure box out , newbiggin next week hopefully fresh bait & another 7lb + cod , tight lines stay safe & happy new year 💪
Another cool video mate. Keeps me keen to get out whenever possible these days, and it's not often. Can't wait to get back down that way again. The lure I've always taken but never used is the 4inch orange 10g sidewinder sandeel.. I've had so much joy with the white and green colours for pollock and kelpy cod over the years. Tight lines and all the best Nathan cheers 👍
There a couple of methods you can use to try freeing lures. One is called an “otter” which is a disk you slide onto your line and close off the slit. You then get it into the water raise your rod up and down and let the current pull it down to your lure, the pressure on the disk then pushes the lure free - popular with salmon fisherman in the past, I’ve tried it and it can work. This might work better on a river or on an exiting tide but I’ve also used a medium sized coke bottle, filled it half full with water, attached onto the line via loop of around the neck then chuck it in and allow it to go past and beyond the snagged lure, the weight of the bottle going in the opposite direction can pull the hook out of the snag. Probably not a good option for a very light lure rod!
Nordic Herring by the way (28g).... used to catch so much on them, macks, pollock, and a few cod. Haven't tried them in freshwater yet, but they've got potential for Salmon or Pike.
Good man for getting out despite the cold. Fish or no fish, still enjoy your content. My spare lure would be a dexter wedge - use them as sinkers when mackerel feathering but otherwise never caught on it. Fav lure is the patch 125. Love that mark.
I'm only just into my second year of sea fishing so I'd also have to say the silver minnow was my favorite lure always seems to catch something 🎣 I did carry around a lot of the savage gear weedless minnows and weedless sandeels for about 6 months without using them, thing's were a bit slow one day so stuck on a 31g khaki sandeel and had 5 codling to 4 1/2 lb not to far up from that mark your fishing Nathan 😉 Tried a few of my homemade 60g metal lures last weekend which worked nicely 👍 landing me a dozen coalies 🎣 The mould I make them from came from JB mould's 👍
Sorry Nathan, I don't fish lures.🥺 Unless you class hokais for mackerel.🤔 After watching your videos, I too would go for the metal.👍 Not too expensive ££and much stronger than soft plastics.💪 Thank you for sharing, and braving the cold while I sit in my warm kitchen.🥶🥵 Sorry.😃😃 Hope 2023 is a great year for you.🙏🤞 Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Another great video mate, looked like a nice place to fish from, i've had most of my success with bronze metal lures, they always seem to get me something
Eyup Dave. The razor claw or similar goes on first to get distance, settle the line down as far as possible and to see what's about. Everything else goes on after that. I keep putting the Skerries Eel on because I see people catching on it but I never have yet. Not a ruddy sausage. If I went fishing to survive I'd either be dead from starvation or be a much better fisherman by now. I think the weather has the fish in a bad mood same as me just lately. BTW if the price of razors goes up I'm blaming you but thanks for that tip and many others. I'll sithi after! Dave.
Lure = Patchinko 125 500g. (Top water) SP = FBM khaki tail 3 matched with shore heads at various weights. HP = Tacklehouse feed shallow (105 of the top of my head) mullet. Those lures would cover probably 80 - 90% of my Bassin along the south coast. Patch being my fav, can't beat abot of top water Bassing.. 😁
Hiya, I’m going back fishing to Scotland in a month for pollock and just wondering have you got any recommendations on line. I’ll be fishing rockey ground with a lot of kelp ? I’ve got a 9-35gram savage grear SGS5 And what app do you use to see, sea swell and tides ?
What’s the soft plastic which is one of your favourite plz, Charlie brewer slider grass minnow? Been trying to find them but can’t find them 😆, I always start with the razor claws and almost always end up on them at the end. Shame it got dark so early, looked a nice evening
Only 1 lure would be white or silver 28g Toby because I mostly lure fish shallow water. The thing I've carried around and never used is one of those Chinese made joey mackerel imitation things, actually looks good, one day... 👍
I'm watching a lot of these videos at the moment, trying to decide what sort of set up to go for to start taking fishing more seriously. For the last few years I've used a £12.99 telescopic 9' Shakespeare rod and a (borrowed) baitrunner reel for lure fishing (only ever manage to get pollack and mackerel!)... I noticed in an earlier video you were having trouble with tip-wraps with (I think it was) this rod - have you changed rods, or did you change your technique? Thanks
It's tough with so many options around. My favourite setup is a 2500 sized reel and an 8-8.5ft rod. The tip wraps were caused but using braid that was too light for what the rod was designed for. I've increased the breaking strain and now the wraps are a thing of the past 🤞
I'd have to choose the razor claw silver minnow as my single lure as they're so successful for me. Unfortunately though they seem to be hard to find online now which may mean a change....
@@SlippyLimpets When I'm on the rocks...most definitely. A fall, a bump on the head...goodnight Vienna. Especially if fishing alone. Ask yourself if you would go out kayaking without one. A fall on the rocks and you may well end up in the drink.

You're lucky to get clear-ish water this time of year.
No such luck here in Anglesey just yet.
i had a packet soft plastic worm i had for 10 or more years,so i bought soft plastic soft weighted hooks n 1st cast i caught a small pollock
Soft plastics can easily out fish metals on their day. Some days though, metals are the way fwd
