Adler is the drummer that plays for the music not over the music if that makes sense . like a perfect fitted glove
Yeah, in his official statement he left pretty clear that Lamb of God got caught in the "we are this thing musically, we have this song structure, it worked for years, we won't change it now" loop that many many old bands get caught in, and Chris don't want that for the band nor himself.
Don't get me wrong here, that is not necessarily a bad approach to writing, it's just a stale view that keeps you from progressing into farther realms within your band.
I share his view on the matter, and I do still love Lamb of God just like i did 10 years ago... but man... it's kind of a waste of potential IMO...
Great video as always, Steve. Keep it up!
Chris's brother didn't kick him out of the band, he left.
Roger Adkins I came here to say that lol.
From my understanding he wanted to try to expand the sound and change their formula. The rest of the band knew their niche and didn't want to be Metallica part 2.
@@sugarshane8622 the interview i saw, made it sound like the label was directing their sound and not the band, or at least maybe directing Chris?
I read that he got in a motorcycle accident and that sidelined him for awhile and it might have been the catalyst to why he isn't in the band anymore.
@@pcast01 thats the correct answer
randy didn’t actually write the lyrics for this one, the guitarist mark morton did
correction, i was thinking of walk with me in hell
Mark Morton wrote a lot of lyrics from the first few albums. Blythe is OK but he's not in the same universe as C Adler. IMO.
As a professional guitar player for over 30 years, who started as a drummer, I have an opinion (oh, no... not an opinion!) about something you said. First off, I agree, so this won't be shade. Certain bands have musicians that "color" their sound so completely that they are irreplaceable as far as I'm concerned. It might be the vocals of Plant, Tate or Spektor. It might be the guitar playing of Malmsteen, Vai or Vaughan. It might be the bass playing of Flea, Lee or Claypool. It might be the drumming of Peart, Jordison or, in this case, Adler. These musicians have such a distinctive style that they are instantly recognizable and make such an impact on their music that you can't just have someone "step in" and take over. No disrespect to Art Cruz (LoG's new drummer) but he'll never be Chris Adler. I find that in "Groove Metal" the symbiotic relationship between the drummer and the guitar players (including bass) is of utmost importance. I don't think it's a coincidence that the two best Groove Metal bands ever, Pantera and Lamb of God, BOTH had family members in the band. Willie and Chris know each other so well and it shows in their playing. Can you imagine Pantera without Dimebag and Vinnie Paul together? Of course not. Just my two pennies. By the way, I agree about Silveria. Korn was never the same without his tasteful, funky playing with Fieldy. Stay safe everyone. Cheers.
Yes finally somebody spoke for Dave Silvera 😅😅!
God damn what is he up to these days?
Yr enthusiasm and passion leaps right off the screen! Literally gave me goosebumps seeing yr reaction! 🤘
"I live for breakdowns" - make that a T-shirt and I will lap that shit up!
Lamb of God is my favorite legit metal band. I love ever aspect of anything these guys do.
I've heard korn's drummer Ray Luzier talk about how he always makes sure to keep that fluid whipping motion in his technique and he says it is the reason he hasn't had any carpal tunnel issues. It has helped him a lot.
Yesssss the video i’ve been so patiently waiting for!🤘🏻 love chris adler and so bummed that he is not with LoG any more
A video on Shannon Larkin of Godsmack would be cool. I’ve always felt like he’s been underrated as a rock drummer. Maybe a review of the drum battle between him and Sully?
Shannon was a big influence, more so when he was with wrathchild, and souls at zero
if this drum battle is the one i saw years ago, that was mindblowingly good. seemed the singer was a top drummer just as much as their actual drummer.
Dieterbe Sully is a metal version of Phil Collins 😂
@@Dieterbe Sully started out as a drummer (an excellent one at that) in his previous band.
Chris’s injury kept him off the drums for like 2 years and during that time I sounds like he got over being in Lamb of God. Playing the same songs for two decades can be dull. I think the band really wanted him to stay but he wasn’t emotionally invested anymore. I will say Art Cruz appears to have really ignited the bands passion again. He was a fan of LOG as a kid and you can tell he is so excited to play with them. Their music sounds fresh again. Also check out the chris adler track “the near dominance of 4 against 5”.
I think his taste changed, he also played in Blotted Science with Alex Webster for a while...which is very experimental.
He also runs a label now, I guess he wants to do more than drum in a band.
People give Art crap but they don’t realize he was a fan as a kid and he is a good drummer and people don’t get that
Probably the same with Slipknot and Joey
I was fearful of LoG going through a similar change in sound like Korn did when they went through their lineup change, but, with the few songs they’ve put out recently, I’m actually fairly impressed. They’re growing and changing as any band does, but it hasn’t been the stark deviation in tone like Korn went through, and that has me hopeful. So far, I’m liking the new guy, but still miss Chris.
That’s awesome. I didn’t know Art was a fan early on. I miss Chris but then again Art is doing a really good job in the few songs they released.
If you watch that clinic in its entirety, you'll find out that he was the original bass player in Burn the Priest. Also, he's left handed. When the current bass player was hired that's in LOG, now Chris moved to drums since there was a vacancy there in the band. He taught himself to play right handed because funds were limited in college and only a right handed set he could afford. He still leads with his left foot alot of times. Dude is a true prodigy. Wanna see another impressive drummer from that same clinic? Check out Jason Bittners, video of Shadows Fall in that clinic. He set almost mirrors each other from each side. Dual bell rides, crash and splash and hi hat. Check him out. He'll blow your mind equally.
I'm left handed and I've bought drum kits off right handed drummers, just switch the drums around. There's no such thing as a right or left handed kit. The kits come apart to play how you want, Chris chose to play the way he does for comfort
Excellent video. Really enjoying them. I will like them all, keep up the awesome work.
Would love to see you react to drummer from Jinjer in song Dreadful Moments or Matt Halpern - 22 Faces from Periphery
this
I wanna see a Halpern video too, but for some reason this dude isn't a fan of anything except 4/4. Hence his "mathy" comment. Brings it up everytime a prog drummer plays. Danny, portnoy, etc. I get his POV, that it can seem very self indulgent, but to mention it almost Everytime...he definitely feels a certain way. Halpern may be too much, even though dude is a beast
Yes! Jinjer are hardcore man!
He’s not only a self-taught drummer, but he’s actually a lefty. On the ModernDrummer DVD this performance comes from, he talks about how confused he was when he first got behind the kit. He also talks about his ‘double bass’ technique in his early days, before actually having a double bass pedal. He would alternate between the kick and floor tom to replicate the sound of a double kick. Adler is truly an enigma of a drummer.
I took a lot of inspiration from him when I started playing metal, not just in my playing, but I also switched to an all meinl setup and even bought his signature Black Panther snare when Mapex rereleased it. His signature 24” ride is next on my list, but I’ll have to buy a ride stand that can hold it first hahah
Never clicked one of your videos so quickly. Was my favorite band back in high school. I didnt even know Chris left the band! Love the videos dude, keep em coming
I really enjoyed this reaction. Went ahead and subscribed.
You know what i love most about this? Its your accent i love it
PLEASE do Morgan from Sevendust! I love his drumming, dude sounds amazing live, he's awesome to watch, but I always wanted to know what other drummers thought of his technique.
Morgan is definitely a unicorn of drummers man. Love his style and his stick and footwork.
I believe a good way for double kick players to break away from just playing straight 16ths or 32nds is to play snare cadence's with the feet.
And then play a hihat and snare groove while your feet are continuing the exercise.
Damn thats why im not a drummer...
He's an absolute legend. Saw them when I first got into metal and again last year. I didn't even know he wasn't with them anymore but you could tell immediately that it was off. Maybe it'll grow on me, but Chris is amazing
I never had heard this song before. Great video as always!
Daren Stafford it’s on their album ‘Ashes of the Wake’.
Definitely check it out
Any double bass playing is "real" lots of hard work goes into long double bass runs, it can be over used yes but man double kick runs with the right riffs= ultimate goosebumps maybe react to Darkside of mgła (exercises in futility V) if you havent already.
Man Chris is an all time hero to me! Also stoked to be here when thus video premiered. Hope your channel starts getting bigger man, best drummer reacts channel. Ive kinda stopped watching other one 😂keep on going man, im sure your audience will grow man
So happy you finally got this guy!
Really appreciate the videos on the giants of heavy metal drumming. Just checking if those episodes on Tatsuya Yoshida, Weasel Walter and Greg Saunier are still happening.
awesome, his double bass lines and grooves are a reference for me, grea great player
Would love to hear your thoughts on Vlad the drummer from JINJER
Definitely need to react to Adler playing Blood of the Scribe
Byzantine is from my home state. Charleston West Virginia . Got to hang out with them a lot. Very cool band. Ojeda is a great person and musician. Got to see them before they got signed to Prosthetic Records. There newest album “The Cicada Tree” is killer.
He is absolutely one of the best metal drummers ever IMO. Unique and so precise, oh and his drum sound is killer!
Sounds of the Underground 2006 🤘It was an honor to shake all of their hands. Best concert of my life
Steve I'd love to see you check out Pete COMMANDO Sandoval, his work on Formulas and Gateways from morbid angel is insane I'm sure you know
Lamb of god is one of my top favorite bands I heard laid to rest from guitar hero of all places been hooked since
Man Adler is so gooood!!! One of my biggest inspirations 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
As the palaces burn changed everything for me when it came. It changed the game completely for me as a drummer. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.
Bummed on chris adler too, i love lamb of god because i came to it for chris adler. I loved the grooves, fills and ultimately style as a drummer that i wanted to learn.
Great reaction! One of my favorite metal drummers!
as for what you said in the beggining, chris adler didnt leave the band, he left because the band hasnt changed their sound in 20 years, and he needed a different creative outlet (probably the right call for him)
Chris Alder is a work horse and just gets it. Great video.👍
Man, I feel like everything you said describing Adler describes the drummer for August Burns Red! Especially the splashes! I think you're really gonna like that dude
Dude I love your channel. I would love to make a request though. It's not a drum cam or a live video, but a band by the name of The Ghost Inside recently dropped a new music video named "Aftermath". They are a melodic hardcore/metalcore band. Back in 2015 they were involved in an accident where their tour bus collided head on with a semi in Texas. The driver of the tour bus and the driver of the semi died on impact. Everyone in the band and everyone else on the tour bus were severely injured, most notably the drummer who lost his right leg. This is the first song they have released since before the accident. Definitely emotional but also inspirational how they were able to come back in lieu of the dire circumstance. What's crazy is I found out that the drummer wrote the instrumental to this track and named it "Aftermath" just a few months before the accident. Keep on keeping on man!
Yes!! I was waiting for this guy! Been a fan of Lamb of God since I was 15! I’m now 30! Thanks for this!
Also, if you like drummers who go along with breakdowns using their double peddles, definitely check out Jordan Mancino from As I Lay Dying. He’s notorious for that.
If you like a drummer who plays musically with the guitar riffs, definitely check out Matt Greiner from August Burns Red. Specifically the songs called “Back Burner” or “Composure”. :)
That snare sound is so damn tight it steals the show.
I love Chris Adler. One of the best metal drummers in my opinion. I luckily got to see LOG 4 times with Chris.
I would love to see Chris be the one to pay tribute to Vinny Paul if the Pantera reunion happens. Zac, Rex, Phil and Chris.....
I agree with you 100%. LOG ain't the same now. Chris was in the band before Willie too. He's my favourite metal drummer.
On the DVD of this performance, he mentions Ron Jarzombek wanted him in Blotted Science, but he didn't know how to read music and they felt he wasn't going to be able to keep up. I'd love to see some Bobby Jarzombek performances analyzed! Keep up the great reactions man, love your stuff!
You should check out Akane Hirose from Band-Maid. Whether the music she's playing to light or heavy music, she goes in on everything she does. Supposedly, Jimmy Page even called her (and I'm paraphrasing here) "The reincarnation of John Bonham" when they first met (witch that's a huge compliment for someone who's played with Bonham).
PLEASE react to Shadow of Intent’s Anthony Barone (preferably his playthrough of Underneath a Sullen Moon), and Trivium’s Alex Bent.
The faded line has to be my favorite LOG song and the double bass is on point 💯
Man I really am bummed and pissed as hell like you at the idea of him not in the band anymore, never disliked any of his parts, I never had drums but I'm a drummer at heart and I know by heart almost every part of his drumming with LoG by just kicking the shit out of my furniture and floor with my fingers and feet, for real. I got to see LoG in Argentina three times and was lucky to see him do his clinic here as well. I will miss his polymeters and musicality A LOT. Thanks for doing this video!!
Song's called "Now You've Got Something to Die For." There's no "that" in the title.
Saw lamb of god with bullet for my valentine and slipknot 2 summers ago, Great show but bassist for lamb of god was sick and did not want to be on stage, lol! You are the best reaction guy on TH-cam! I loves me some passion and you are passionate! Awesome stuff dude!
Thank you!!
Your comments on double-bass make me curious what you'd think of Decapitated's "Spheres of Madness." The drum run on that track made me fall in love with double-bass style
Hes one of my all time favourite drummers. He started playing bass 1st, then learnt drums. What does everyone think of Mike Bordin, faith no more. I was a metal vocalist/singer, but I'm a huge drummer watcher
Stick around and I'll tell ya
@@JunkdrummerTV awesome man, so glad I found this channel
Chris was a fully self taught drummer. Lefty. Think you said everything there is to say about him n LoG. I know he had recorded with Megadeth. I'd hoped he would join them. I'm just thankful to have seen LoG a few times. Twice during the final Slayer tour. \m/ Can't wait to see what Chris does next.
Really want to suggest you check out Dirk Verbeuren. He was drumming for Soilwork until a couple of years ago when Megadeth headhunted him away to their band. Soilwork’s The Ride Majestic is, in my opinion, a masterpiece, and he was a huge part of why I think that. There are has several vids of him recording or playing along to many of the tracks off that album, and I think you’d really dig his style. Plus he’s the guy you’ll see drumming for Megadeth when you go, so I figured you’d appreciate a more closeup view of his skill set (which is probably going to be dumbed down now).
Also, HUGE props for shouting out Byzantine. Nobody I know has heard of them and I think they’re fantastic!
I remember reading an interview where he didn’t start playing drums till his early 20s which is pretty astounding. Chris is a bad ass, hope he returns to LoG at some point.
And Is Left Handed AND plays like right handed
I live for breakdowns..🎶 lol got me good
Chris Adler was in a motorcycle crash in 2017. Never healed enough to resume full time drumming. So he left the band.
Adler was the first person I seen use a heel toe technique on the kick
I went to Download fest in 2019 literally to see Tool and Leg of Lamb. Found out when we were there that Adler wasn't there with Leg of Lamb. Was absolutely gutted. They were still great though
If you're going to do another Lamb if god song, please do Descending. I feel like that whole song is driven by the drum beats. They really come front and center in that song.
Fair to say Messhuggah's sound is unmatched
he was the reason i got to lamb of god...
He's now in a band called "FirstBorne" check them out. \m/
I read that he left the band to pursue other music because he had enuff of doing the lamb of god stuff. He did get kicked out. The latest drummer was referred to the band through Chris Adler
Man if you’re going to that concert (I am too) you need to check out Alex Bent of Trivium. They’re an opener too for that concert. They actually just released a new album this past Friday
My husband and I were lucky to see Chris play a few years ago during the Slayer tour. I'm supposed to see Megadeth too in July. I know they're going to cancel it. Im gonna cry. It would be my first time and I've been a fan since I was 4.
I dont know if it is possible due to copyright restrictions but there is a King crimson video on starless from a 74 tv show (melody) with a young Bruford on drums, and this is one of my favorite moments of his. Would be amazing if you could do that!
These guys made all parts sound like warfare. Suppression fire, mortars and rolling tanks.
I saw Slayer and Lamb of God last May it was pretty sweet
Love LOG!! They were the first concert I went to back when I was 16 or so 😆🤘 I'd love to see you check out some of Nic Pettersen of Northlane's play throughs, especially Genesis/scarab 🤘 but they're all great so I'd be happy with any of them 😅🤣😁
Love these videos. Can you do some Devildriver please? One of my favorite bands. Groove metal at its finest.
Chris and Art Cruz (new drummer) are very good friends, I’m pretty sure Chris chose him to fill in and then the band asked him to join . Art is a outstanding drummer and he’s filling big shoes , but he can handle it.
You should totally analyze Jason Bittner, of Shadows Fall! He's a drummer who influenced me immensely, and I'd like to see what you think of him.
You should check out Anthony Barone's playthrough of Gravesinger! Its with his band shadow of intent. Kids a beast!
They're coming to your hometown as well? They'll be playing about an hour and an half from mine in october as well!
Haha at 4:30 your huge fan boy moment. YES!!!!
Hey man I’ve been to many concerts and lamb of god is the second best sounding band live bro but number one is PANTERA and lamb of god is great live man hope you enjoy if you go my show is November
Props for that Byzantine shout out! Don’t often hear those dudes get mentioned lol
Have you heard We Die Alone by Lamb of God. It is one of those bonus tracks in which Morton and Adler went complete berserk. Man! Perhaps that song has one of the craziest guitar and drums jam that I have ever heard in entire metal history. Trust me give it a listen.
Would love to hear on insights on that. And if you do you'll be the first one on YT to do so.
You are correct, Chris is self taught. He actually wanted to play guitar but drew the shortest straw and it has been metal history since.
Please react to ‘Madlib & Karriem Riggins’ @ Opera House’
Karriem Riggins drum performance is INCREDIBLE!
Chris Adler is my idol, he is a god among men whe it comes to drumming....he's so tech and intricate its riddiculous
Man I hope you can see them open for Megadeth (with Trivium and In Flames which will also be amazing)! I also have tickets for the Cleveland show in July, and am worried they're going to cancel like many other shows :(! Anyway, great reviews and also miss Chris with LoG! As mentioned in a previous comment, definitely check out Gojira Global Warming Live please :D
I’m pretty sure it’s from this clinic or another, but there’s a point where he’s just freestyling having fun and they totally interrupted him with a LoG track basically just forcing him to play straight metal. I’m so happy he got to show his chops on Protest The Hero and am happy to see where he goes when he’s not “painting by numbers”.
Chris Adler is the drummer for Megadeth now
I'm also looking forward to lamb of god in October.. hopefully
God damn I hope it happens
You would certainly love The faded line.
Chris was self taught. When they started recording to a click track a few albums in, he had a crisis for a while where he couldn't play in sync, despite all his skill
He suffered an injury. I am a fan. Lamb of God's sound is unique
Chris adler really rocks!!!
Seen lamb of god in irving tx w/slayer......
Best concert hands down .....ive got tickets to megadeth too in july. Hope its still happens 👿
One thing you didn't mention for 9 minutes and 34 seconds is that he's using his left hand to lead the fills when his kit is set up for a right handed drummer
You should do a reaction video to a drum cover if ‘hour glass’ by lamb of god that ‘kevinfnroy’ does its absolutely amazing
Awesome content man! I subscribed to your channel. I am from Charleston WV....are you from this area? I have a friend that opened for Byzantine you may know him. Anyways keep up the good content man!
He has a Groove Metal way of playing.
You sound like you’re from South Carolina, I’m imagining that’s where you live, cause I lived there a while, and that’s how everyone talked.
