Even though the 80s were such hard years pm producers and equipment manufacturers, the size and quality of these big tractors are tremendous. Thanks for the video!

@Conrad Humilbottom A fair bit of plastic nowadays too. I'll be ready for the call to actually drive a combine or tractor when our sun sends a flare that burns out their electronics. Ha. I thought cultivating was boring before tractors steered themselves. Have to make cars bigger now, like houses so people can come over for poker or the game while you till or combine.

I love the video. I worked as a farm hand from 1982-1990 and the big tractors I ran included a John Deere 4430, IH 1086, Case TK1470, an IH 2+2 6788, and a couple Steiger Panther 1400's.

    • @bigtractorpower

Wow that is a very cool line up. The 6788 and CP/KP 1400s are extra rare.

I liked hearing the 4786 at work on the disc - it has a very distinct exhaust note with the DV800. I worked for IH in California in 1979 when they were released - we had constant overballasting done by customers who did not understand 4WD weight and balance but the tractors overall did well on primary tillage in cotton ground in Kern County (Bakersfield).

I still have all of my toy tractors as many of you do. Honestly though we never saw big tractors like this in my area of central KY growing up. When I was little a Ford 5000 was considered big tractor power around here lol. I remember when our neighbor bought a JD 4030 when I was 4 or 5. Was the biggest tractor I had seen, still remains one of my favorites. Love the channel and thanks for doing this!

I guess my favorite was the Massey Ferguson. Seems like the runt of the litter here, but is still feisty and wicked loud. That's really cool that you, like me, aren't a farmer but grew up playing with toy tractors and fascinated by watching farm equipment near your home. That EXACTLY describes my childhood. And your son is so cute; once again reminds me so much of me at that age. Cheers.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane, as a kid of the 90's, i got my dads old tractors, 80's and 90's, he was telling me about his days on the farm, he said you could bulldoze a house over with one of those and not knowing it, incredible power, i still have those tractors and everything else from when i was a kid.

Back in the 70’s I worked for a farmer and he bought a International 4786 in1979 It would pull a 10 bottom 18” plow 12” deep at 5 1/2-6 mph We could plow 6 acres per hour in any size field It was the nicest and most powerful tractor I had ever driven I miss those days I enjoy your channel

I am not a farmer, but I live in a big farming community so I grew up watching big farm equipment working in the fields. I really enjoy watching your videos, and it is good to know that I am not the only non farmer that enjoys watching farm equipment . My favorite tractors in the video were the Steiger Panther 1000 and the Ford FW-60.

I grew up in almost the same way! Grandparents would take me every Sunday looking for tractors, my favorites were always John Deere’s back in the day. My childhood best friends family had a huge dairy and chicken operation, so when our parents turned us loose around 6 years old...it was heaven for a little boy. I’m 32 now, and still get excited over any type of equipment. Thanks a million for the videos!

bigtractorpower well, I spent a lot of time on an Allis Chalmers 185, and I like the square styling. So that would have to be my favorite. They had a bunch of equipment, and had a big Massey Ferguson, (not sure of the model #). It had a v8 diesel, and the best feature was the chrome throttle lever. That thing made a young guy feel like an all American bad ass, especially pulling round bale wagons!

The 4w 305 is the my favorite. Has an 8550 and the kept most all the mechanical components, but made the cab bigger and better, ass well as improved or dumped those engine side panels that would fly off in wind storms and get banged up. The 8550 was a powerhouse, although rated at 300 at PTO it dynoed at first checkup at over 350hp, and the Allis tech turned it down to 300. It seemed only limited by it's lightweight and traction. As opposed to Stiegers, which were heavy monsters. The v8 tractor engine is a thing of the past but I sure think that Massey 5200 sounded good. The international v8 was always loud even new. We had a neighbor with one and you could hear it roar for miles. It's the only 4x4 tractor I've ever seen actually break in half at articulation. Freak deal, no idea how that could happen. Batch of bad metal or maybe the owners had messed with it.

Theses tractors beat the new ones you can buy today. Now there are some much electronics and exhaust crap that it is almost like driving the spaceship. The monsters in the 80's were full of raw power. The black smoke and the growl of the engine is the best. Can't roal coal in a new john deere haha

In the early 70's I worked on a dairy farm here in NE Ct we rocked the local boat by having only Ford tractors. We has a 880Jubilee, Ford 5000, and a Ford County 4WD manufactured in England by Ford. Unlike most of the other 4WD tractors this was a true tractor with the engine, trans and rear axle were all bolted together and a drive shaft went forward to a pumpkin mounted on the front axle. Here is a link to a data sheet on these tractors

That case 4890 is nice with the crab steering. I bet you bought that one.
I like the old international 4wd and Massey Ferguson’s. international made a crab steer model too. My all time favourite tractor is the Massey Ferguson 1150 V8. First row crop tractor with a V8 engine. They’re a popular collectors tractor. I’ve seen some really nice ones. The AGCO combines from Spec cast have 50 different pieces in them to get to the detail compared to some the less detailed models that may have 6 or 7 pieces. The tooling to make all the parts on a detailed toy combine like the AGCO costs $100,000.

Idea for future videos...would like to have audio of each feature tractor cold starting. I know some of the tractors I worked with over the years have a very distinct sound in phase of starting the motor. Not sure how else to communicate this idea....simply - audio of tractors being started. Thank your for your work. BTP videos have a "bob ross" calming nature. We watch BTP paint fields with tractors and then from time to time, a very calming BTP voice speaks about these "happy" tractors moving about the canvas. Great work, big fan!

Nice to see some traditionalists still exist. New technology is good to a point but "if it ain't broke.........." Keep up the great work!

We have front wheel assists that can 200 more hp than most of these and insane fuel consumption improvements. I would say we are in a much better place today.
