    I saw my first Steiger at a John Deere dealership in Kingman, KS. I never saw one running and would like to some day. I grew up on a small farm in North Texas. Believe it or not, we used John Deere "G", John Deere "A" and Farmall F-20. That was all the power we needed.

    The last green Steiger is on my cousin’s farm north east of Glasgow Montana. It was sold out of Town & Ranch Servicenter, run by the Potter boys. Don told Bitz? that Bill really wished that he could have gotten a Steiger last year when they were green. Bitz put in the delete codes. Bill’s Steiger came in green with Lion on it instead of red with numbers. Don did not tell Bill that the tractor was coming in green. I was mounting the blade on it when Bill saw it for the first time. Bill was speechless! When Larry told me that I was working on the last green Steiger ever built, I was surprised.
    Hello from north east Montana.

      Okay now that’s one of the coolest comment section stories I’ve ever seen on this channel! Crazy to think that out of how many green Steigers there are that it’d be the last

    I hope that the family will restore every one of those tractors,not just for historical reasons,but considering that a brand new 500+hp. 4-wheel-drive will set you back a cool $500-K or more,it just makes since.

    I realize it would be a real workout & long day, but it sure would be appreciated & nice if we could see the inside of these tractors. It would be interesting to see the placement of the hydraulic levers, throttle control, what options were in the cab, types of seats & just what the interior of each looks like. Maybe bring a young high school kid along to climb in & out of them for you!

    I noticed that 16:47-19:06 was the same clip from last year. I was wondering what happened to all of those tractors, particularly the old Wagner WA17 and Steiger that were way off in the woods. Have any of them over there moved at all? I personally love the old, rusty, all original tractors like those, so I had to ask.😁

    What was up with the coop cougar 2 that had the inside duals wider than the outside ones

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a plowing dual set up. The center large tire is the main tread. If the tractor in tillage finds a wet spot the narrow tire grabs and adds extra traction. It was a common set up in the 70’s.

    An AC-440 was the main tractor at the family farm when i was little, it got demoted a couple of times but it's still there and does some work every now and then, sadly even though it sounds amazing the little V8 just can't compete with the newer inline sixes of its big brothers with 100+ more horses

    Being a bit of an 'old soul traditionalist'(almost every vehicle I've owned has been a stick shift - I'm not a fan of today's 'road cocoons') if you will, but with a thing for cutting edge technology too(hypocritical interests - go figure), I'm REALLY into modernisation. Taking old cars, rebuilding the engine with modern parts, adapting it for aftermarket electronic fuel injection, maybe add a turbo or two, modern shock & spring package underneath, etc. Taking old stuff and rebuilding it with new components, modern technology, but keeping the classic look, maybe don't even worry about the bodywork at all.
    Anyway, I would LOVE to modernize one of those Steigers - drop in an early electronic diesel(a Cat C18 would be pretty damn cool...), maybe put a set of more modern axles under it to get some modern brakes and differentials(electronic selectable lockers?), replace all the lighting with modern halogens+LEDs, obviously we need to adapt some modern electronics inside the cab(though an outright cab swap to something from the late '90s-early '00s might be the best option versus attempting to add all the new stuff to the old cab), GPS, whatever else would be needed to allow for this classic tractor to work relatively seamlessly with modern equipment in a modern operation(modern modern modern).
    Think of it like the custom car industry, people want old cars turned into perfectly modern daily drivers/track cars/race cars underneath the body; imagine doing this with 1970s tractors - an old Steiger out in the field with brand new Deeres and Cases, but not giving anything up to them in performance and capability because everything under the skin has been modernized and upgraded.
    Surely there's some old rich farmers out there that would love to have their "dream Steiger" or "dream Big Bud" built with today's hardware! Lol

      In tractors in general more than a few numbers ones have probably been scraped. Often owning the first built as a new owner may not be desirable as all bugs may not have been worked out. As a collector it’s a prize to have. Luckily all these early Steigers are still around.
