Your 37s is what’s cooking your transmission. The high temp transmission light doesn’t come on until it’s really hot you most likely have burnt fluid which reduces lubrication you should change out the fluid
I own a 22 tundra limited hybrid with 15k miles out on it now, and I honestly feel that the lag you are feeling is due to the engine ECU being programmed for a hybrid motor to be installed. I have heard about this lag alot with many non-hybrid owners, but owning the hybrid I can tell you that the "lag" you feel is removed by the hybrid motor on initial accelerating then the engine kicks on and it's such a smooth transition. It's like they never account for that and just did a standard program for all engines hybrid or not.
Great video. I have a 2022 SR5 off road. Already have over 100,000km on it. I agree with you on the box shaking. The front of my box, just behind the cab, has started to crack. I have seen this on another Gen 3 tundra as well.
Great video_ I recently bought a Limited 4WD TRD OR (NH)- and I really like it (Ive driven it 2 weeks now. The truck was built in August of 2022 and I have not had any lag issues. I definitely agree that the throttle lag in the regular driving mode is pretty bad. I switch to sport mode any time I will be on highways and it seems to clean it up a lot. Do you think the overheating issues have anything to do with being on 37's? I am running 33's and have a bit over 25k on my truck including several long road trips and the New Mexico Backcountry Discovery Route and I have never had that issue
It's the high-stall torque converter they use that causes excessive heat when it slips. Best bet is to slap it in tow/haul mode or manual shift mode so it can hold lower gears longer. If off-roading, 4-Lo will cut down on a lot the overheating warnings as well.
There is a TSB Update for the throttle lag as well as the start up clunk noise you get every once in a while. They are the same TSB code. Your local dealer should know the code. It took care of both of these issues for me.
Also if you replace the silver tie down points in the bed of the truck with a higher quality set it should take care of the rattle. It is not actually the bed rattling. It worked for a few other TH-camrs, I have yet to try it myself.

Just curious, and the order of the mods may not have been right to find this out, did you have the transmission cooling issue with the 37s but before the bumper install? It does look like it blocks some of the airflow to the bottom of the radiator where those integrated ATF coolers typically live. If it was already borderline with the big tires, a little loss in airflow might be the final straw. Unrelated, my buddy just got back with some fuel cans and a trasharoo from your shop for me, stoked for the goodies so thank you!
It's a good point, and honestly one that I hadn't really thought too much about. That could definitely be a part of it! Maybe I'll try relocating the tranny cooler up higher and see if it makes a difference!
So far run them in dirt, pavement, sand, rain, snow, and some mud and they have been fantastic. Probably my favourite tire I've run so far. The only problem with them is they are super expensive.
Funny you mention the flat belly... Like a 2005 Nissan Xterra... I love how the front end looks with the cut and bumper. Sounds like Toyota has some major work to do with the tundra still.
How's the manoeuvrability of the tundra like in tight space? I currently have a Tacoma I like the nimbleness the truck but other than that it is not strong enough to howl my boat in the woods and all my other task. I'm afraid of missing the size of the tacoma in the city and in tigh space but you coming from a tacoma how was you experience in these situation ?
Honestly it's about the same, but I had the DCLB tacoma with long travel and 37s, so realistically it was close to the same size, just the body was narrower. The back up camera makes parallel parking a lot easier than in my taco as well.
I've done worse than what you described about the transmission over heating. I've not had that happen to me. I've pulled up and over the rocky mountains in Colorado and I offroad alot too. The throttle lag I fully agree and I've taken it in and they say it's normal cause it's a teen speed transmission.
I think the 37s are likely the biggest contributing factor, and a regear would probably help. Though I ran 37s on my 2006 Tacoma for years without overheating issues
