When I moved to Atl, I started going to SW Dekalb HS school football games just for their band. Growing up in N La, I had never seen a high school band that big and sounded that good., They were called 'Baby FAMU.' Most of their directors attended FAMU and brought that style to the HS. Both of these bands sound amazing.. I have to give Southern the win on this battle.. Every song FAMU push it over the edge and then Southern comes a little better with every song..
Comparing these 2 bands is like comparing apples and oranges. Both are great and have their own unique styles. But ever since moving to the SWAC FAMU has been playing a little more aggressive. They'll be a heavy hitter in a couple years.
Apples and oranges is right. I love how both bands know who they are and stick to what they do best. I love the diversity Famu and BCU are bringing to the SWAC. I honestly think this was the cleanest I've heard southern in a while. I love it. Both bands sounded great.

FAMU wasnt as strong as they were in zero quarter here. Seem like they ran outta gas. FAMU, the SWAC is going to continue to put major pressure on you and BCU to come with something fresh every week!!! You sound good but gone have to dig deeper to stay current with tunes and satisfying SWAC bandheads. Now i will say, yall n BCU field show presence has put major pressure on rest of SWAC. Keep it up! “Spend My Life” was song of the night for me. SU for the clear win here!!! 🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥
I’m a firm believer that you can still honor your tradition, but still evolve at the same time. I feel that FAMU doesn’t do that. You can have your nods to your tradition, but evolve your program. I feel like I’m watching the same FAMU from the late 80’s and 90’s.
I was saying the exact same thing when are they going to pull out some new material my high school band director was from FAM....I'm 37 now and we played the exact same songs!!!! Evolution is a must!!!!
Facts. Famu sounds great but there's no excitement in their music or arrangement. Wht battle does it think it will win. I mean famu does play more updated songs than bcu but that's not saying much. Bcu haven't been the same since JSU drugged them in 2019. But for real famu, u need to update your book and challenge yourself with the arrangement/composure. U sound great but these elementary style of playing isn't going to excite anyone. Txsu and Pvamu will have a field day with famu and bcu.
No disrespect to nobody on here, but it sounded like FAM played the white version of 'Bag Lady' 😂😂 gtta put sum season on that chicken!! Much respect for both bands though yall both sound super good 👌🏼
I like how both bands tried to play at each other’s style to some degree. Southern played more “relaxed” arrangements and FAMU pushed out a lot more sound. I honestly call this one a draw, both bands did really great.
I have to disagree lol famu did try to turn it up a bit but su did not in anyway to any degree try to play famu's style or whatever that might mean...SU did what SU always does, yall say anything on here man
Some of y’all be waiting to talk down on these bands , I hope some of these kids don’t see this cause y’all rude and never led a band nor written music
Look here now, I get being loyal, but come on FAMU fans!!! 🤦🏾♂️ I'm not sure what's going on with FAMU....This used to be a battle to watch. SU wins but need to address their mellophones and tempo. I'm a HUGE SU fan but they got some cleaning up to do.
Facts that is the perfect word to describe FAMU straight up L 7. They must write the arrangements like that and scold the kids if they wanna spice it up with the phrasing and accents. No color whatsoever.
Nah, I disagree, FAMU sounded great. You can’t listen to ESSENCE by SU and say it wasn’t a little square (listen to KSU’s version for a great arrangement). Either way, i love that FAMU actually starting to open up more and SU being more musical. Great adjustment in strategies and great battle. I am unbiased for either school and I call it a tie
@@ikenga02 nah, I like that beefy sound. Plus they carry alot of the melodies. Mellos just needs to add a few more and step their game up. They probably have mostly freshman and sophomore in that section. They been lacking the most the last few years though.

Dat went over your head bruh. FAMU created black band culture. That’s just facts!!! FAMU is the father of this!!! Dr. Greggs was creative and tweaked some things, but Dr. Foster planted the seed. Two great bands. Hey SU, can the visiting band sit in the middle of the stands like you? Being at the end of an open stadium takes a little away acoustically. However, the good bands, like the Marching 100 overcome their "accommodations" and handle their business. Play on both bands. #HBCUs

I love my culture.

I agree 💯% those are the only 2 critiques I have as well.
Su was way too much for FAMU. FAMU good, but was sounding square on some of those songs. SU gave you power and finesse. SU for the clear win.
Facts that is the perfect word to describe FAMU straight up L 7. They must write the arrangements like that and scold the kids if they wanna spice it up with the phrasing and accents. No color whatsoever.
SU need less btones and and a couple more mellos.
