Loud is just loud, but quality and loud is something different... from 95-99 that JUKE was pressure... there were a few yrs thereafter but those in particular were the good yrs... I remember those Circle City Classics in the late 80s and early 90s.
Bruh all these mics and software to edit the sound is ridiculous, when in person it sounds thin AF. Not to mention the arrangements has fallen off a cliff. Rap tunes are cool but what happen to the MUSIC the “S” is known for?? From one juke to another, get it together.

Highly disappointed in the unprofessionalism of Southern University and this Human Jukebox “media team”. You have lost many fans and support over the past few years, including mine. I hope to see a public apology from the AD, Directors, and Media Team addressing the way other media is being treated at these games. It’s distasteful and everyone involved should be ashamed. The world was watching, and everyone has seen it on film including your own. Your students deserve much better.

Now I just want to say this, because this generation may not understand. Around 2007-2011, everybody and they momma was tired of fam and their marches lol. Now we fast forward, so happy to see music being supported amongst the HBCU family.

Lmbo! Every since Brian left, everyone is a critic now. You folk kill me with SU sound different or the arrangements aren't there are they need to clean this up or that up. Man shut the f up! Remember, Simmons left them in the middle of recruiting and spring practices! Of course they going to sound different. Southern has played new music from a brand new writer? I'm surprised they sound as good as they do. Jesus christ. Famu has had the same director for ever and still playing out dated music from the 80 and 90.
Knights by Nights is a classic but like you said it’s outdated! I played that in high school in the mid 90’s
SU Tubas are giving that 🔥 but Fam's section sounds like a true bass horn/sousaphone section. They are producing a dark tone just by playing full & together.
They should've left that Space Cadet arrangement in the bandroom.

Famu just sound better overall and they do it without obnoxious cranking. Drum section compliments them too
You take cranking as something to be looked down on and that’s not okay. This form of aggressive playing is what makes band fun for us. It’s all apart of being a versatile musician. Musicians who crank also understand the importance of playing with the control and balance. Famu gears their music towards more balance and control with a dash of volume while southern univ. aims to max out all those qualities: control, balance, and volume- and they do a consistently outstanding job with that. What you fail to understand is that cranking gives band students an outlet to release pent up energy and convert it to passion through the instruments. If you you’re dealing with some things in life, all that goes away when you cranking. We call it wartime for a reason, that aggression gives band that war like feel. I hope my take on cranking helps you understand my perspective of what I grew up around.

@@byronshipp3454 you’re right they do utilize them but if they always play sharp it takes away a from the overall delivery of the song their playing. Any time SU plays a song when the brass is playing softly you can hear the sharp piercing sound of their piccolos and clarinets and it sounds awful.
I'm Jukebox all day everyday....but FAMU's woodwind section put on a clinic....so far Zero Quarter looks like a draw

Showtimeweb hasn't updated his audio equipment in the last 15 years. Good video quality, but his audio has been trash for years, nobody missed out on anything with him being kicked out. For quality audio, look at Killakev, Smashtime, and MarchingSport.
His footage sure sounded a lot different too and I don't think it has to with equipment.

Christopher King so true 😅 its no joke blowing wind in an instrument outside in the cold. No one on here wouldn't begin to understand the magnitude to be part of any of these HBCU band programs during cold and hot weather, not to mention the other obstacles band members, directors and band staff go through to prepare to entertain people for these games and other events. Its cool though I wouldn't trade that experience for nothing else. It was worth every battle and note played. Lol

SU this is not it. These arrangements are killing us. Some of these songs have no soul to them. I remember when we used to come out with songs that nobody really knew and those were bangers. All we do is play rap and a couple of dry R&B songs. I love this band but we have to get back to the basics.
Needs Haymer back!! SU isn’t bad at all but they are missing the soul and that smoothe legato sound.

Can't wait for the Florida Classic. I know Famu is going to show out. Famu sound really good. Southern sound good and powerful. Famu is well balanced. Famu got them woodwinds fo sho. Southern didn't go through a rebuilding period like Famu a few years back. However, great job to both bands. I enjoyed them both.
I think people forget what Famu went through because they were killing everyone except my Wildcats of Bethune Cookman except some year's though.

Many wouldn't believe this but SU band is mostly freshman with hardly 0 band experience There are only a small handful of seniors and for them to sound this good speaks volumes in how well the directors of bands are doing thier jobs in teaching these students because I'm sure it was not easy training them to sound and march like this. High stepping and whip turning itself is not an easy technique to learn over night lol. We only see them in uniform during game time and battle of the bands and go by what we use to hearing or like hearing but its a whole lot more but its all good even the hate. We're all here for it!! Big ups to every band that put forth efforts to make these games entertaining and interesting.

That was the band. Some students were unable to come to BR, so this wasn't even the entire band. I think I saw that they were 50 members short from the regular size

Both groups sounds gud here. FAMU made a bold statement coming to BR and held their own here for sure!! But yall gota learn how to battle!!! Warm up before u come n the stadium!!!! Wen u get in that stadium…… ITS WAR TIME!!!! Dat warming up ish takes a way from the battle atmosphere. PV did the same thing last week vs SU. Warm up at the buses!!!! Take whatever time u need!!! But wen u get in that formation n enter that stadium….. WAR TIME!!!!! Song selection can make or break you. Always choose selections carefully and wisely!!! Good job both bands.

This is a bit underwhelming tbh. SU had the power as expected, but wasn't as clean as usual. I'm trying to adjust to this new SU play/ arrangement style and it's just not moving me. FAMU was the better sounding one also as expected. That believer was really good but everything after that was Dr.Leeish. I understand FAMU doesn't want dancers because of tradition, yet the flag boys are giving counts from a workout at home DVD, or someone's drunk auntie at a family reunion? Hopefully this matchup becomes more interesting as the programs see each other. Both of these bands are the standard of their respective styles and this should always be a showdown.

SU been sounding like that. Their arrangements been sounding like that. People just got adjusted to it in a world where they have been the leading band for the past couple years. Now we are starting to see the things that made FAMU special re-emerge and it’s causing people to question the things we accepted from The Jukebox.
