With the whole home hub selecting and issue you stated has been discussed a lot on Reddit. I was also on that ship but after some research and troubleshooting I found out that the home hub issues are related to network issues. As we speak I have an OG HomePod in my garage as the connected hub in my setup, and my thread network is working perfectly. For context I have 4 OG HomePods, 4 HomePod mini’s, and 3 Apple TVs (all 4k 2nd gen with thread). I also have 5 devices that are Thread in various locations around the house. My OG HomePod which doesn’t have thread shows as the main hub but my thread network is working perfectly fine. Now how HomeKit selects which is the hub seems to based on which one shows up first on your network. But if your network is solid and mDNS and multicast is properly setup you won’t see issues when a non thread device is selected. It’s Apple it should just work like it does in my setup. If it is randomly selecting another hub that means you have network connection issues. Second, more HomePods would be nice but the latency is probably why Apple haven’t done this yet. The timer issue is hit and miss lol.
@@iGageit You and a ton of other people would like the option; I definitely would not complain if they did give you the choice, but just knowing Apple's track record lol

Thanks for your feedback. I will check into my network and see if that can be solved. But I would still like to choose my main hub if I want. :)
