@@GH0STST4RSCR34MNo, it’s actually reasonable. It’s objectively a better phone than his previous one and he does this yearly. If anything, it’s financially and environmentally wasteful to keep buying phones when you know you like your current one and then throw those new phones away.

I do think the 15 Pro is worth it for you. You have already ditched the iPad, Apple Watch and black magic camera. You’ve already minimized your tech ecosystem to the point where if you start downgrading the tech that’s absolutely essential for you like your phone or your Mac, then I just think you’re being a bit too frugal which isn’t that good of a message to send to your viewers either. Your current ecosystem is the perfect balance between being frugal while still being enjoyable to have as well.
In other words, reduce the amount of unnecessary stuff you have, but with the stuff you do keep, make sure it’s the best you can get.

I finally gave in, and upgraded by 11 pro to a 15 pro. I could have waited another year or two, but so far I'm very happy with my new phone. I particularly like the bigger brighter screen, the always on Display, the improved camera, the 3x zoom, and the USBC connection.
I feel like you make minimalism seem more stressful than it’s meant to be.

I think a 6.1" is perfect size for a "smaller Pro". I've had 15 Pro for 2 weeks (upgraded from a 4 year old iPhone 11 Pro), enjoying it and intend to keep it as long as I can.
Bought the 15 pro and love it. Got it on launch day after having the 12 pro max. Love the size and camera upgrade
One thing about the A17 Pro that i’ve absolutely loved is finally being able to use all three cameras when recording in 4k60. It no longer locks onto one camera and it’s been a game changer for me when recording videos especially videos in sports venues where you’d want to use the ultra wide camera then move to the telephoto lenses. This feature is limited to 4k30 on older iPhones.
He will go with the iPhone 15 or pixel 8 Pro and then he will make another video of why he made a mistake and he needs to go back with the 15 PRO 😂
I also upgraded , from the xs max to the 15 pro max after five years of using the xs. Will keep this one for longer hopefully

You have already splashed cash on a 15 pro. It is not healthy to dwell on these topics and buying a 15 means you spend more . If you just kept your phone you save, in fact, if you kept your 13 pro max you would’ve saved even more until today
being able to open the camera with the screen turned off with a physical button is a game changer that not enough people are talking about, also i didnt realize this until got the phone but you can use the button to actually take the picture too which is cool
It's the best iPhone ever made and the best smartphone on the market.

havent watched it yet but would be interesting to see you full time operate the base model this year that if the camera and the 120hz isnt a big factor in your day to day use

Here’s the thing my dude. I have a regular iPhone 13. Putting aside the keyboard nightmare that iOS 17 has been for me, it is ALMOST my perfect phone. Literally the only thing I needed it to have was usb c.
So now here I am, ready to move to the regular 15. The reason is pretty dumb. Other than usb c, I’m basically going to be doing it next month or February just because I feel someone at Apple either fucked up the feature set comparison or they just stopped caring altogether. I’m going for the 15 because it gives me the port I need most but also because I feel that it is more worth it to get the base iPhone than any other year in its entire existence.
I don’t need pro-motion, the 3rd camera or faster usb c. Literally everything I asked for is on the base 15 PLUS they added a camera on par with the pros that I don’t even need to worry about because they did that 2x zoom trick that’ll make using my camera even nicer.
The 15 will be the first time I will have a phone that I will actually drive into the ground till the battery dies, I replace it and then I’ll upgrade once I lose software support and even then, I am stupidly tempted to just wait till they stop shipping security updates.
Like your honest opinions and perspectives, it's all about being practical. What are your needs and uses, and from there choose the best available option?

I wouldn’t care if you used an iPhone 4 to record your videos. I’ll still watch them cause the camera you film with is not what your videos are about.
I used a pixel 8 for a month. Loved it but QA is definitely an issue. Just small issues that made the phone less reliable. Opted to go back to iOS and the 15.

I would say keep it because of the great video quality that comes out of it and the amazing cellular performance
90+% of us have no idea what is or care what “b roll” is.
I don’t care about the best telephoto lens, action button, or the low transfer speeds, since I’m not a user like you Drew. But, I do love the 120hz so that is why I stuck with my 15 Pro

Just keep the iPhone 15 Pro. You are literally a “pro”…basically the exact type of person that phone is made for. You own that phone already, just keep it!! And hold on to it for the next few years

Drew, does the 120Hz screen help with the PWM problem?
My Pixel 7a got a USB Webcam feature with the latest Android update. Works perfectly with the Mac, just like plugging in any other USB webcam.
Video quality isn't as good as my 15 Pro Max, but then it is Google's equivalent to the SE.
My only complaint is, you have to select which USB mode you want, so you can't have it do both the camera and the modem (tethering) at the same time, so if you wanted to use it for a video call and your only available internet was on the Pixel, you might have a problem. Maybe you can do the tethering over Wifi, and the Camera over USB?
But the SIM card is in my 15 Pro Max, I only use the Pixel for website development, as I need to check they work on Android.
Just wait for the 2024 SE to come along, one camera to rule them all, type C, even the action button will be there, and even if they up the price to $500 (or 550 if going for 128 option), that’s still 250 bucks you’re saving on a brand new iPhone.
I have a wonderful esr case for my 15 pro that adds a kickstand on the bottom, gives the same result as my pixel 6a in terms of balance.
Just wondering if you’ve experienced overheating on the pro and bad battery life?
I think it would be cool if Apple put Touch ID on the Action Button.
I think it would have to be full size for it to get a good reading of your finger print. I saw a rumor of the action button on the 16 being a full size button, so maybe we’ll see Touch ID eventually. It’s also a terrible placement for Touch ID especially on the pro max, way too high up and borderline unreachable one handed sometimes

I’m thinking to finally upgrade my iPhone next year. Probably get the 16 Pro Max. I’m happy with a 6.7” display. But I could go for the rumored 6.9” display as long as the overall size of the “chassis” isn’t too big! It still has to fit in my pockets as well as my current phone does. Even when in a case! And I can’t imagine ever going any bigger (in the future) than 6.9” w/o treading too close to tablet territory and just getting uncomfortable in the current form factor. Unless Apple releases a good foldable.
I wouldn’t ever go any smaller than 6.7” either, though! I don’t have nor currently want a laptop and my iPhone is IT for portable computing so I want it to be reasonably but comfortably big! 😊

Is 128GB enough for the Pro? I bought it last week and haven't opened it yet because I can't decide if I'm being a fool by getting the smaller storage version. I'm only using 53gb on my current XS.

I love how you can go back and forth all day and be so split down the middle. Both 15 Pro and peasant 15 are worth it. I also think Pixel 8 is also a good choice for people who aren't dependant on apple. Just want to say thanks for making these videos, you're one of the few TH-camrs who is so open, and unbiased.

since u have the pro, u should keep the pro - you make good points for it. as well as the bad points - basically, it is YOUR pov & i totally feel the torn situation abt choosing a phone for u.
ideal situation? keep the pixel & the pro - use both as & when required? - i use an android along w my ip13 bas model - all bcs of features (& apps) that i use as well as the ip smaller form factor. I don’t know what phone i’m gonna upgrade to in the next 3/4 yrs if phones just keep getting bigger & bigger

I was really looking forward to upgrading this year, but after seeing the upgrades I’m just going to stick with my 14 Pro Max. I don’t care about phone games or new button, and while the camera changes are nice, they’re just not enough of a reason for me (even if I could easily afford it). I’m most definitely going all out with the 16 next year… fingers crossed we get an Ultra iPhone.

I'm actually still using my iPhone X from 2017 as well! It's crazy to think that it's been 6yrs. already! But it still does the job. Though my battery is really bad and i'm in real need to buy a new one. I'm going for an iPhone 15 Pro with 256gb in naturel titanium. I was thinking about 512gb but the price is just too much. I'm getting the pro mostly for video/camera work but with that USB-C port we can record to an SSD. So i think i will be good for storage. 🙂

I have Pixel 8 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro. love both. I have to be honest, as I get older, I just want it to work, I don't want to tinker with themes and launchers any more. (is the reason I went Pixel over Samsung. Simple clean UI. No duplicate apps. native vvm. But if I had to pick just one, it 100% would be iPhone. I wish Apple would makes 4 different phone instead of 2 pairs. I want one that looks like iPhone XS. I like rounded edges.

I got the 15 plus because of your review on the 15 and I’m so happy I did. Cheaper phone plus it’s bigger which I’ve honestly fallen in love with. Plus the pink is soooo good
Honestly like the way the regular phones look. But 15 pro is perfect size/weight like the thinner bezel 120hz to me the slightly smaller footprint and thicker body lends to a better in hand feel
@@GH0STST4RSCR34M the bezels are 30% smaller on the pros, it’s not about the look of the bezels the phone is literally shorter and narrower. And there has never been an iPhone with uneven bezels and there never will be
@@GH0STST4RSCR34M you know what I mean as long as they’ve had full screens we’ve never had uneven bezels. And the bezels are not the same thickness the pros have 1.71mm bezels all around where as the 15 has the same 2.17mm bezels that the 14 pro did last year. Maybe you should stop by an Apple Store and look yourself. I have a 15 pro I stare at it everyday the bezels are even. The only iPhones I’ve ever seen with uneven bezels have aftermarket displays. If it didn’t I would have return I am much too OCD to tolerate sloppy design like that especially at 1k, and even with older iPhones bezels weren’t even but always symmetrical

Log would be more useful for anything you want to make more “cinematic” or unnatural with colour grading. If you’re just correcting it to look natural then it isn’t really worth the time. And ProRes recording is cool but we can never watch a TH-cam video in ProRes so it doesn’t make a difference on our end.

I just bought the iPhone SE and I’m using a 5w lightning charger. Not sure if it’s just me, but my 14 Pro Max was straining my eyes, that doesn’t happen with the SE.
I’d probably keep the 15 Pro Max. Even if you don’t use the cameras much, I think it’s still nice to have.

He also keeps missing the point about 6o hz . It has nothing to do with if you will see the difference which most will . Try using a 120 hertz and right back to 60 . The point it its a 800 phone . Its 2024 . Why isn't that good enough of a reason because shocker , most would welcome it . Apple simply doesn't have enough class to do it because the phone deserves it . Hell they would of kept lightning for another three years if they could
Since trying out Android I am the same way. Have been through multiple androids and back to my iPhone and I am not content anymore with my devices. After I sell my 8 pro I am done I think. Sticking to iOS

I laud your efforts to streamline your tech. I fully agree that iPhones are well-built and last a long time. I still daily-drive my 6S although I also have a 13 Mini...waiting in the wings as a backup...in case my 6S poops out. My Pixel 6a Android daily-driver still works great on the on custom ROM. Like you, I heartily agree that Apple needs to make the files transfer process less obtuse and silly. At least, since iOS 13, Apple has made some minor effort to improve things, but they aren't as good as Android yet. Aloha.
I received a flip phone in 2019, then an iPhone SE in 2020, than an iPhone 6s Plus in 2020 than an iPhone XR in 2022

You think transferring photos to a mac is bad, but transferring to Windows is pretty much impossible if you have more than 100GB of photos. Which is absurd because there is a third party open source Linux driver that actually works. Why are Apple the way that they are… other than that, solid phone.
And what pushed me to getting the pro over the regular was the always on display. I know Nokias 30 years ago had it first, but the effect is still impressive.

The reason people complain about the “entry level” iPhones having 60Hz is not because “we need 120Hz or else it sucks.” It’s because a higher refresh rate costs very little more to implement than what the thing costs to manufacture, yet it still costs as much or more than screens with 90Hz+. Same with the USB C port being stuck at 2.0 speeds. Apple is not saving YOU the user any money by doing this. They could implement better transfer speeds and a better screen if they wanted to, they are just so greedy that they would rather save the single-digit-millions in manufacturing costs and also use the base model as a decoy pricing strategy to force people up to the more profitable Pro models.
Stop defending the 60Hz screen just because it’s “not unusable.” That’s not the point and you should know it. It’s like buying a $30,000 car that doesn’t have cruise control unless you upgrade to the $50,000 model.
@Drew Stick with the 15 Pro, wait for iOS 18 and be patient that it’ll fix your software gripes. It’s a much better device overall than the pixel.
After a few months have passed with time to think , the base 15 is actually not a good upgrade at all really. the iPhone 13 is almost the same performance and that phone is 2 years older , the battery life isn't much different and the only real differences are a slightly different design , "new" port with same slow speed and the new camera AND STILL 60HZ. not a good upgrade at all.
I bought a 15 pro, hate that size but otherwise it is a nice phone
