You know what, I really like the originals and I am sure nothing can hold a candle to the absolute heavenly sounds poured out by the amiga system... But this rendition of the piece is also absolutely amazing, and delivers a new taste to my earbuds that itch with nostalgia.
I lived up with SotB on the Amiga and I yield. The PC Engine versions are the best Amiga remasters I ever heard, and the fact it was made for a port of the game is awesome. This was done by someone who genuinely understood the originals and used professional equipment to create the exact same songs for a CD track.
5:10 Chills. In retropect, I don't even think Beast was a good game. But it created an amazing atmosphere, and I have a shit ton of fond memories playing it on the Amiga with my older brother, who sadly passed away in 2013 at age 37. He would've loved this.
I wish there was as much love for the PC Engine soundchip as there is for SID and Paula, it's a great chip. Mind you this the CD version that's just CD audio produced on the Korg M1.
You can tell the composers weren't afraid to challenge the original, this soundtrack really is a beast. I don't know about the track at 23:00 though, that seems excessive.

This version was on PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 Super CD-ROM^2. The FM Towns Marty version features a similar arrangement but playback on Ricoh RF5c68 and Yamaha YM2612 sound chips. Check that version out if you find the PCE-TG16 CD ROM version too clean.

I know this version has more atmospheric channels than the Amiga version, but its sounds very MIDI and synthesized, the Amiga had more organic instruments which suits it. Also the Amiga version captures that dark side as previously mentioned. Sorry but the Amiga still has the best soundtrack.

I love all the versions of this soundtrack, but even this one does not come close to the genesis version for me. I know the Amiga is the original, but the Genesis version is so much catchier, specially the plains are insanely hypnotic and atmospheric. For me the order is: 1-Genesis, 2-PC Engine, 3 Amiga.
Yeah, I really hate when my music isn't AT LEAST 1080p. It really has an impact on the sound when the display resolution is so low. Thankfully someone invented HDTVs so we can hear 30 year old music the way it was originally intended.

Well, if you're coming to TH-cam uploads for audiophile quality audio, you came to the wrong place. I think you'll find the difference is really pretty negligible. At least, that's what I find when playing the actual CD / Game through an expensive stereo compared to this.
It's not that you have "good" ears. It's that you have picky ears when listening to free music on TH-cam. Like I said, if you're going to pull the audiophile bit, go get the CD and use proper equipment. I find it hard to believe this TH-cam upload's audio quality is raining on your parade when you probably use it for background music while doing something else. I also find it hard to believe you remember the audio quality difference after you've moved onto something else.

David Whittaker is a legend in video game composition. Up there with Rob Hubbard, Tim Follin, Martin Galway, Yuzo Koshiro and others.

Loved this game as a kid back in the early 90s, playing on an Amiga Commodore 64.

Actually there are some subtle differences if you listen closely. Mostly changes in the mix. I prefer the Fm town version.

The music was by D.C. Productions Ltd. (Chris Howlett & Ian Henderson). It's the same arrangement as on the FM Towns version.
