If you grew up with a Genesis/Megadrive, you'll love TurboGrafx-16 music!
Agree
Love your remixes!
And with the NES ;)
I didn’t and still love it!!
Yes!
I’m so lucky I grew up with a Turbografx/PC Engine with the CD attachment. I had about 30 games for it too and picked a new one out every couple months from Turbo Zone Direct once I couldn’t find them in stores anymore. I still have all those games and more now that I collected them over the last decade. Had a complete US Hu Card set until a couple months ago when I sold my Magical Chase for a nice sum.
Turbografx/PC Engine is still my favorite console to just buy a couple of games for every now and then. I’m always discovering something new. This video actually helped me look into some PC Engine games I otherwise wouldn’t have known about. Plus it makes for awesome road trip music while I’m driving to retro game conventions.
I still own it all, 38 games
Europe?
There were times when i picked up a CD game...and sadly turned out to be a dud of a game or reading Japanese was needed to play, but the saving grace was they usually at least had a few awesome music tracks to listen to. And thanks to the PCE CD rom, you could just listen to the tracks on their own.
PC Engine chip tunes are way underated.
Salamander and Streetfighter II also sound pretty good on PCE imo...
The turbo Graphics 16 is underrated in general
@@charleswesthoff5954 saying "underrated" is overrated.... parroting is so lame
@@darrendavenport3334 I'm not parroting anyone when I call it underrated that's what it is. Plus I'm not concerned about the amount of times you've personally heard something
A nice step up from NES imo.
Devil Crash pinball @41:00 -- legit dark synth banger.
I am a huge turboduo and turbo grafx fan, even saved my money from my paper route when I was a teen to get the cd-rom with Ys and Red Alert
Ha Ys and Red alert were my 1st two games as well.
Ys book 1 and 2, Ys 3 Wanders from Ys... very different from each other but loved it all. Ys Book 1 and 2 most
3:49:13 well good chiptune
The sound chip is very EARGASMIC! And I have never had this console in my life.
My goodness it takes me back to my childhood. TG-16 was so under-rated 🔥
I really enjoyed mine but I found it frustrating to find games.
@@mikejoe3551 If that was back when the console was new, I think that may have had something to do with where you lived. Being in a major city, I never really had any issues finding games to buy or rent. The local blockbusters even carried TG16 back then
@@garage2track It probably did have to do with the location. I could only find games at GameStop and the selection was very limited.
Tatsujin never fails to put a smile on my face. What a tune 🎶🎶🎶
Thanks Sunteam for all the TG16 music. I have been listening to it at work for years. Appreciate it. Have a great day!
Wow. I didn't know Sunsoft used some of the same songs in the NES and PCE Batman games. Hearing such an iconic NES track in this style is wild.
Will Mistretta which ones
@@ReyndOut 24:55
@@xboyindahouse thats sunsoft
@@jaimesanchezbenavides3167 yes, that's Sunsoft. They made 4 different Batman games on the NES/Famicom, PC Eninge, Gameboy and Genesis/Mega Drive. Several of the same tracks from the NES, PC Engine and Genesis appear in each game. Like the track I highlighted, that theme 1st appeared in the NES version and then it also comes out in the PC Engine version.
The choice of FM sounds in Sunsoft's original Mega Drive Batman game are often beautiful. Bright and clean textures, lush quasi-reverbs, lovely multi-channeling and stereo.
i listened the whole video and every single song are very VERY good thanks for sharing
I had never heard any of these tunes until the Turbogrfx 16 mini review on IGN. Great stuff!
Thanks so much for this. Ankoku Densetsu (us legendary Axe 2)!
5:07:00 can't get enough of that jazzy Outrun goodness...
yeah that is a good one!
wow, so good!
4:19:49 This awesome Space Harrier song is a PC Engine exclusive. On no other machine.
So much chip so much awesome!
Whoa, that batman track is 🔥! I like the version better than the nes i grew up on
Por dios! Increible el chip de sonido de esta maquina.
Some of these are so good it's not even funny.
Korg M1 I don't know i too for some reason prefer the wave table synthesis of the pcengine. the Mega Drive, even though FM synthesis is more advanced. the Commodore 64s modulation is awesome if it just had 6 channels like the pcengine I think would be the clear winner otherwise I give them a tie
Really unique sounding tunes from that hudson chipset :)
Yes totally underrated regards its sonic technical prowess - like most late 80's games consoles it really is capable of very good results if programmed correctly.
Many of those pce arcade conversions sound brilliant. Check out Shinobi bgm on pce @5:30:57 - awesome version. :-)
And Daddy Mulk @5:44:23 :-) (Ninja Warriors) :-)
Extraordinaire que de souvenirs merci beaucoup j'ai grandi avec cette machine et quand j'entends toutes ses musiques ça me remémore mon enfance marvelous!!😀🎮📺❤❤❤
All of these tracks are great. Loooove it.
Shtick sez: Great workout music, if you have muscle to tone.
Kind of sad that PC engine got almost entirely ignored during the console wars. I had a Genesis and SNES, and I had friends that had one or the other, but I never saw a PC engine or Turbografix anywhere.
I agree and it's a shame.
I had the chance to be among the first PCE owner in my country.
Fun fact: I had to call the service department and I had one of the founders of UBI Soft on the phone :)
Only in the West. The main downfall for the West was that it was really a competitor to the NES/Master System. It came out in 1987, but in the US was released 2 years later, AFTER the Genesis. If we had gotten it sooner, it could've established a player base since it was king for awhile. Still did really well in Japan.
great for study music, no lyrics to distract, but also not so slow like all the lofi 8 bit stuff, where i want to sleep more than study...
Funny how the video starts off with probably my favorite of all the PCE tunes
It's a banger for sure
Really getting into this mix.
Some great in here. Thanks!
Dear lord time stamps for everything please this is an 8 hour video and moving the slider just 1 pixel jumps 20 tracks. Al so good selection though ;)
1:38:30 i like this
5:52:18 - nice, the one following it too, bomberman 93
40:58 metal af, no other chip at the time could do that.
Reminds me of SMT, funnily enough. I love music in this style.
BTW, there's a Sega Genesis version called "Dragon's Fury" which is also amazing. th-cam.com/video/WkcckqXLmvE/w-d-xo.html
listen thunderforce 4 on Megadrive stage 8 called métal squad. the best 16 bit ost
Fantastic Job! Some great tunes, brings back memories of 1988 with my grey import, when others had an AMIGA, I was the only kid in school with one.
I still own my Turbo Grafx 16 and Turbo CD. I own 38 games... it was the first console I owned! NES was a very close second
5:48:49 Lots of memories there.
43:15 on, god DAMN, this is some good. Shit! This is not the kind of music you get when you're barely paying attention and churning out some garbage for a paycheck. Someone poured their heart into this soundtrack, man. This is grade A Good Shit!! When those fucking Arpeggios kicked in I just started cheering and went back and played it another 3 times. GOD DAMN.
Between this game and Epic Pinball on PC, pinball games had some amazing soundtracks in the 90s!
Love this music! Work jams!
It's hard for me to recommend any 2 or 3 soundtracks from the PC Engine because they're ALL great. I don't understand how so many amazing composers worked on such an unappreciated console.
great stuff, love it!
Thanks a lot for this nice video !
Great list, thank you.
Beautiful. I bet some of these hu cards cost a pretty penny nowadays!
06:24:40 OUT RUN.
SOUNDS LIKE PARODIUS(FC OR NES).
I was wondering when you'd do one of these for the TG16. Thanks!!!
@Love made in Japan Think he knows that already... ;-)
Fantastic, a real treat !
The Batman one tho
Never have I expected to hear the Stage 1 theme in this soundfont
Wow! This is great and I didn't even grow up w Megadrive at all, and only played sonic games on the genesis!
a shame this haven't more views (listens) and thumb ups :(
That first track = basically PC Engine Iron Maiden
Thank you!
PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 was an interesting system with an interesting Soundchip.
The Soundchip has 6 Sound Channels & each channel uses a Wave Table similar like the Famicom Disk System or the Game Boy. But the soundchip has many tricks up it's sleeve as it has hidden PCM sample channels similar to the Sega Genesis DAC + Hidden White Noise in the Channels as well.
While the Soundchip was pretty decent for it's time, it doesn't compare well with the Sega Genesis nor Super Nintendo as both system has twice the amount of channels, more things to do, & higher quality Samples.
PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 = 6 Channels
Sega Genesis/Mega Drive = 10 Channels (6 FM Channels & 4 PSG Channels)
Super Nintendo/Super Famicom = 8 Channels (8 ADPCM channels)
Purer sound on the PC Engine - Megadrive is also good - but NeoGeo FM Sound Chip was maybe THE king of the late 80's 1990's chip tunes imo.
There's a mistake on the track listing. The song at 2:06:27 is from Wonder Boy III, not Adventure Island. Great selection!
Adventure Island is the Japanese name for Wonder Boy III (AKA Dragon's Curse/Dragon's Trap) on the PC Engine.
2:19:20 ❤
La melodía de Batman es espectacular. Está no la conocía, yo conocía la de NES. Es muy superior. Me encantó.
Da mix.
extra je kiffe trop
This is hot🔥🔥 FIRE🔥🔥
That Power Drift song at the end is stupid long
Ah yea, Out Run PCE style!
Reply to me with time if you hear a good track in this please.
:/
Does it use FM synthesis ?
No.
TG16 used a combo of wavetable, noise, pulse width, and PCM (samples). Only 6 channels though.
@@inkajoo And it has LFO capabilites (but never used :( )
PCM datas are on 5 bits.
@@KarLKoX The CD systems also added an additional ADPCM only channel which was put to great use in Dragon Slayer. Funny to note, if you took the 3 SMS channels away from the Genesis then the two systems would have very similar setups, albeit with different means of actually producing the audio.
@@KarLKoX Actually, you could gang multiple channels at will for increased PCM bit-depth, e.g. 2 channels for 10-bit, 3 channels for 15-bit (the max).
Sunsoft made some of the best tunes on the PCE sound chip. too bad they stopped making games for it around 92 (when it started to focus just on the SNES/SFC and MD/Gen :/

Is this 8 bit or 16 bit?
The PC Engine has an 8-bit CPU, but 16-bit graphics processors.
@@sunteam what about sound? Is it 8-bit?
@@hanabihimawari2377 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboGrafx-16#Audio_capacity
@@hanabihimawari2377It's wavetable synthesis
No Air Zonk, wut?
It's at 18:44
1:24:09 doesn't it sounds like Judas Priest ?
Splatterhouse is in here. Typical
This is EMULATED sound, NOT running on original hardware, and frequently sounds WRONG and SUBSTANTIALLY different than the original. Nice effort on video, though! Great, but flawed, demo of the most innovative console, by far, in every way, of the 4th generation!
If you record these same songs from original hardware, make sure to let us know when you compile them into a video like this and upload it. :)
I'm totally ok with Trump getting skin cancer.
Some good tunes, but the sound chip in PC Engine is pretty awful. Not the greatest sounding..
.... 2:54:23 .... awful my arse :/
Master System soundchip is what I would consider "awful". The PC-Engine actually has a decent sound generator, considering it is from 1987.
Sounds like a skill issue to me lmao :3
I find it the best chiptune machine, wavetable is flexible, has charm, easy to grasp and the stereo imaging is excellent. The NES/Master system/Gameboy is too simple. The SNES is a CD-quality system with a serious RAM problem as achilles heel (only DKC1 sounds good), and the Mega Drive, well anything with *How the F do I program FM ?@@*#&!* (Sonic on the Game Gear OSTs sound better than any Sonic MD song) combined with fake stereo .
50:15 "Bomberman Goes to Japan"
