While RVing through southern New Mexico we came across this cool little BLM campground called Valley of Fires National Rec Area perched above a huge lava field. We just had to stop and check it out for a few nights.
In this video I show you the campground, surrounding views and a walk down in the lava field.
At 18 bucks a night including water and electric this campground offered great value, especially considering the gorgeous views.

Cool camping spot. I believe they use the yucca plants to make tequila. Enjoyed your video.

Suzan Allen Yes it is called Sotol, :)
Sotol is a distilled spirit made from the Dasylirion wheeleri (commonly known as Desert Spoon or, in Spanish, sotol), a plant that grows in northern Mexico, New Mexico, west Texas, and the Texas Hill Country. It is known as the state drink of Chihuahua, Durango and Coahuila. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sotol

Thank you, I stand corrected. Tequila is made using the blue agave plant, which in some ways looks similar to this plant. Keep learning new things every day. Have fun on your travels.

Ahhhh.... my old stomping grounds. Nice area! Was raised in Alamogordo. I miss home. Thanks for sharing. Down south toward Alamorgordo you'll come across the Three Rivers Petroglyphs. In high school, I was a part of a volunteer archeology group that discovered a bunch of them down there. ENJOY!

Do you believe 40 ft Class A would navigate and fit into THE RV SPACES AND ROADS ? or do they Monitor that well ?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

ECRVS Videos Yup, no problem, I'm 45 feet when hooked up and towing, and I had no problems. The site we were in was likely 65 feet long and paved all the way. They a large turn around at the end of the road if need be, You wouldn't get jammed up and have to back out.

ECRVS Videos It was first come, they have a self serve pay box, or if the visitor center is open you can pay there. Good to get there early to get a better site, some are more level than others.

Looking at google earth view shows the lave field. Looks so big on the map. Will have to visit the Valley of Fires when I get down in the area.
If your interested in Native American history, head north to southwest Colorado and see Mesa Verde National Park, walk among the old dwellings the native people of the time built among the cliffs. Next door in Utah, you have Hovenweep National Monument. Many places thru out Utah that make you think about how they lived and how they survived and what could have happened to them in the 1300s.

koslund11 We just finished visiting Canyon De Chelly, saw lots of ruins there from the Anasazi and met some of the Navajo people that still live in the canyon. Very cool place! :)

Love Your RV Google Mesa Verde National Park and check it out. Well worth a days tour of the park. If you are heading towards Utah, I have been through out the southern half of the state a number of times over the years. Need to know anything about the area I can help.

Love Your RV Not sure if you have ever taken Highway 261 north to the top of Moki Dugway. When you get to the top, hang a left and drive the few miles down Mulie Point Rd to the end, Mulie Point. Your wife will love the photo ops and you can see Monument Valley to the southwest and all of Gooseneck State Park on the San Juan River. Beautiful area.

Not in 5 years coming to the southwest, but we are here in the colder winter months. Once it gets into late March or April they start to come out of hibernation, by that time we have moved more north.

Hi Ray. We are headed to Valley of Fire today. Thanks for the nice review!
The petroglyph location you referred to is 3 Rivers Petroglyph Site. We are camped there now. Very interesting place with many petroglyphs to look at on a well marked trail. The campground does have 2 pull through rv spots (neither are occupied now) with power that will fit any size rig and a few tent camping spots that are not level parking. We are practically the only ones here. Amazing place and highly recommended .www.blm.gov/visit/three-rivers-petroglyph-site

Thanks, we took a drive out and visited the place, pretty cool. Was full of campers when we were there and quite busy with daytrippers, but was later in March if I remember.
