I wonder what he would say about all these unconstitutional mandates being handed down as he was commenting at the end about how corporations are not states and cannot force policies on people
Now make the connection between the state and corporations. Corporations, by means of years of lobbying, etc., literally enjoy the same unalienable rights as the individual.
It is noteworthy that the protestant reformation was also a tool for the rulers, especially in the holy roman empire and in England, to further central power by becoming not only the ruler of the land but also the ruler of the church. The roman catholic church as a rather independant power with her own jurisdiction pertaining not only to church affairs but even civil disputes, was eliminated in the reformed principalities. Luther and his followers were very influenial by referring to Paul's letter to the Romans where he wrote that the slaves should obey their masters and everbody should obey the ruler because rulership stems from God. Therefore Luther was often called a servant of the princes. The famous frontispiece of the King James Bible is also very telling because it presents the king handing out the Bible to his subjects whereas God and the angels are very much in the background.

Early American pioneers were the closest thing we have had in recent Western history. Then the army came because the USA had made some agreement with the tribes they were getting ready to round up and move. The same tactic has been used. Someone who is not in charge of you and wants to be makes an agreement with you and others as a group. (Round 'em up) You cannot make an agreement with every individual. Then, cause fear. Tell the group any outliers are there to destroy the group. Hopefully, the fearful overreact, giving one an excuse, but if not, round the group up and tell them you are there to protect them. Actually, they are there to gain dominance over the outliers and destroy the group. Next, round 'em up and move them. Now you are in charge of BOTH groups and have sway over their actions. You can influence them through slogans and coercion. Giving out certificates for people to do what people have done without a certificate for centuries is one way to gain more power. Frontier expansion usually works this way. Eventually, the motherland tends to come along and impose government on the frontier, but in the interim, settlers often live without a formal government. Many ancaps will cite ancient Ireland as an example if you wanted to look into it, but I'm not familiar enough with it to really speak on it. There's also been some recent historical work on the Gold Rush era of Western expansion in the US, which shows that 1. many settlements - mining camps especially - were ungoverned, and 2. Contrary to the traditional Hollywood depiction, the western frontier was not only not 'wild,' but was significantly quieter and safer than back East. Murray Rothbard in 'Conceived in Liberty' covers a period where the Pennsylvania colony had abandoned formal government. This was actually a big pain in the neck for William Penn who was away in England much of the time, but whose charter required him to enforce The Navigation Acts in the colony. The Pennsylvanian Quakers, who tended to be pacifists, simply smiled and nodded and then promptly ignored Penn's demands. On one occasion, Penn even sent a messenger to the colony, only to have the messenger report that it took him a long time to even find the colony's assembly hall, because none of the colonists were able to tell him who was in charge of the settlement. And when he found the hall, it appeared to have been abandoned and disused for a long time. The Quakers apparently had a reputation for resolving disputes by talking it over with a neighbor acting as a neutral third party. The neighbor would often literally be listening to the dispute and giving his opinion while working his field.
Many rural areas in the developing world are technically governed by national governments, but the reality of daily life is that they live in extended family social structures. There are people in the Amazon basin who have no knowledge of a state called Brazil, or its national government.

The state allows people in their collective state to do things we would find abhorrent as individuals. Public debt is a good example since it lets us party and stick future generations with the bill. We must not forget the ‘power of revolution’ by the people that sweeps away corrupt sovereign states which eventually become a replacement state. Ultimate power comes from ‘the governed, or the people’. New rules and systems can be then created to balance the inevitable growth of a sovereign state guarding against it turning into an abusive actor. Finally, the overall moniker is that ‘Might makes Right’, whether that’s in the hands of the people or the state. NEVER give up the right to bear arms!
When less than 60% of Americans ever vote in local and national elections we will remain hostages of the state. Also as long as we have a to party political system that fights against each other it will not get any better. We need one political party, the "American first party".

The state is the entity which imposes taxes. It creates the means to pay those taxes with currency. It defends the stability of that currency with the military and the court system.
Politicians, who are the supposed leaders of the state, actually just give the people what they want, for the most part. The majority of Americans decided in the last election that they want bigger Covid handouts, bigger spending on green technology, forgiveness of college debt, etc., so that's what the politicians are giving them.
For ever action there is a equal and opposite reaction so every thing you do be it good or bad has consequences and it's up to the state to decide penalty most times it is called a tax either way it is a penalty

I don't think one can make the argument the state has always existed, most hunter gatherer tribes have not used coercion and exclusively relied on cooperation to conduct their affairs. The state in its mature incarnation probably did not come into existence until about 6000 years ago, but most likely existed in a proto-form in many violent and repressive tribes and chiefdoms after the emergence of agriculture. I do not see the NAP as a unobtainable ideal but as a the re-emergence of our original moral order that existed throughout most of our 200-300 thousand year history as Homo sapiens.
So how do the small scale, local cooperatives efficiently protect against the invevitable rise of would be emperors without becoming a 'state.'? Also, how do you keep the peace between local tribes? I can buy the idea that there's an argument for a return to local control .... But I don't buy the idea that Leonidas and the 300 stalling an empire is the obvious outcome of a conflict between an empire and any conglomerate of small, moral communities.
I did a video and posted on my channel what a state is. The abstract state is also called subject matter. Dependent state, a non sovereign state. An independent state, a sovereign state. Etc.
There are a lot of people smarter than me here, but having read through some of the comments not any mention the American answer to what and why government exists- Declaration of Independence. Any government that violates the laws of God is outside the natural chain of command, is no longer defender of natural law, and should be replaced.
The Laws of Nature were NOT "created by god" - they exist eternally outside of and superior to any of the thousands of man-made concepts of "god" .. YOUR definition of "god" is completely different than the definition of 6,000 other gods and the beliefs of 8 Billion People .. "god" has NO PLACE in the Declaration of Independence .. and "god" has no place in Laws of Nature and of NATURE'S God [ which is NOT "man's god" ] .. the writers of our Declaration of Independence were NOT referring to any single concept of "god" - they were not "christian", "jew", or "muslim" .. the Laws of Nature are those concepts which are UNIVERSAL to all life, including animal life .. the minute you introduce "god", you begin the process of imprisoning the people under a despotic ideology [ which is exactly what is happening under Trump, Biden, Obama, Clinton, Bush, Sanders, Ocasio Cortez, the Democratic Party, the Conservative Party, AND the Libertarian Party ] .. Ideology of Extremism and refusal to compromise is replacing humble service to the needs of the people ..

An excellent reference text and starting point for putting forth coherent hypotheses on the subject.
More Articulated, educated and intelligent people such as this gentleman, need to step up. It is time.

Fantastic. I think this is important because ideas like this can also resonate with conservative Americans, which we severely need if we’re going to see any real change in this country.

I send this presentation to friends and family. We must re-learn who we are as a “free people”. I most fear that our freedoms will be lost because ,in our endless pursuit of hedonist pleasures,, we will not realize our need to defend, in whatever means necessary, our civilization.
Also, remember that postmodernism feeds the State. Great discussion
Postmodern, is just what comes after modern. And modernity, having peaked in the 19th Century is out of date. The state however, is very much a modernist institution. You’re little false rebellion is actually built on post-structuralist theory. And you’re quite late to the game, since first feminists, then anti-colonialists, then anti-racists, and then gays challenged state power, but they did so successfully. Liberation was on the agenda, but now we need a large state to deal with all the problems of capitalism. Better luck next time.

Is the Old Testament story of abandoning the guidance of Judges for the rulership of a king an example of deliberately trading freedom for a state?
That was pretty damn good, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us
The state is a necessary entity for society, provided it is bound by the chains of the constitution.

No sovereign but Christ
This is why I can never be a libertarian. What a godless bunch.

It’s a play on #NoKingButChrist

What an excellent distillation of the steel man argument against anarchy. It's one I've run up against many times.

"Ancapistan" wouldn't be a utopia, but it would take centuries or possibly even millenia for human beings to acclimate to it enough to see that it wasn't one.

Every society in history which has both agriculture and metallurgy also produces the state. The state is a Hayekian spontaneous order, a product of human action but not of human design.
I wonder what he would say about all these unconstitutional mandates being handed down as he was commenting at the end about how corporations are not states and cannot force policies on people
I'd hardly call it a war when one side has already surrendered.
That about sums it. Liked, shared and subscribed.

The concept of society predicates the state.
To new viewers: if you want to know if this is worth your time or it's core tenets, skip to last 5 minutes and listen to his conclusion first.
The problem is that what used to be NOT the state (corporations, social media, media, etc.) has been assimilated into the state and controlled by the state. To a varying extent, that extends to churches and families.
I use the umbrella term 'institutionalism' to include the State and all it's influences and appendages. Corporatism is what we live under today; all institutions are combined together under the regulatory protections and benefits of the State.
Liberty means freedom from institutionalism. Rare I hear that term even though it was proclaimed loudly during our founding... and should still today.
The group's children will accept the status quo because they know no different.
Not only with the state, but also with the bankers and investment companies
The state is not static, it's dynamic depending on who is ruling it.
For some reason I read Hemingway's, "The old Man and the Sea", as an expression of competing sovereignty, self determination, self government, and local autonomy (34:30).

In Aristotle’s own words:
“Our own observation tells us that every polis is a community (or association) of persons formed with a view to some good purpose. I say ‘good’ because in their actions all men do in fact aim at what they think good.
Clearly then all communities aim at some good, that one which is the supreme and embraces all others will have also as its aim the supreme good. That is the community which we call polis (or State) and that type of community we call political.”

No one would ever charge up a credit card and foist the bills on their kids. But it's for the people don't you know.

What are you trying to say?
Politicians, who are the supposed leaders of the state, actually just give the people what they want, for the most part. The majority of Americans decided in the last election that they want bigger Covid handouts, bigger spending on green technology, forgiveness of college debt, etc., so that's what the politicians are giving them.

Local autonomy that functions as a macro system!
WE dont need to eliminate the STATE,... society needs to force the STATE to abide by the CONSTITUTION and be responsible to the people, society in general.

“Polylogism” is the idea that there can exist many moralities, or moral views. When the State is answerable to no one it effectively becomes God in its distributing of justice to Men. And this is why ALL criminals in government need to face the justice system. If FBI agents, presidents, congressmen, senators, governors or judges break the Law justice MUST be applied equally and indiscriminately. If not, the police state will have arrived.

The church is a sign of Freedom and liberties. In a Communist society church and religion has been banned.
@@gregpoulin8210 I could see why the church would be seen that way by people who have been forced to not be religious in practice. That however, does not mean that the church hasnt been a great source or horror and falsity while manipulating man"s minds toward their ends
@@gregpoulin8210 Eh it's a little more complicated than that. Church has been both a boon and a curse to liberty
There’s christendom, the theological camps and institutions, and then there are local churches which is the spontaneous association of like-minded people within a locality who share the same faith.
The camps or institutions when those lose focus on theological schooling and training become warped, and they have often been or still are to some degree negative examples of religion. The positive examples of church history on the other hand have often been the humanitarians and missionaries. Those two elements under the christian banner always compete with each other.
