    Great, quick and accurate explanation on NAS configuration.
    Thanks for your great videos (sadly I've missed some in the past few weeks)!

    I've been considering getting a NAS, but had no idea how they operate exactly. This was very enlightening, but I would like to see bigger NAS with more slots, and maybe different RAID configurations like 5 or 6 maybe.

    Great information! I've been looking at setting up a NAS for a while and this seems to be a relatively easy way to do it.

    The video is great, like the presentation of information - easy to follow. However, my issues with NAS in the past have been when the hardware fails the drives have become useless as I can't hook them up to my computer to access the information on them due to proprietary formatting. In the past I had a WD My Cloud 4 TB. Loved the ease of use and access, but they discontinued the support and cloud access for it which made it become a USB drive. Then the hardware failed and I could not access the information. My Dlink 232 didn't fail but made my network configuration changed and I had no where to plug it in and no way to access the drivers independently and now access to the unit directly to get the information off. So far the hardest to use but easiest to access was attaching a USB drive to my Asus RT N66U...

    Great work on video and detailed explanation Roby.
    Question for you. Unit supports dual power supply for protection against power failure if say one power unit fails. Do you know where best place to original or compatible AC adapter?

    This video is straight forward and simple, great work Roby.This NAS device is super cool and easy to setup, but 2 hdd slot is a limitation 4 would have been great coz anyone with extra hdd can throw that in there and can increase the total capacity.

    Very nice overview Robey. I've used WD NAS's for years and they are always easy to use. I may try this one out as my older WD NAS devices are sometimes having issues with transcoding plex content. But great review! Thanks.

      Yeah the PLEX on this is pretty dang awesome and the ability to do two or three devices at once is pretty cool. Price wise it ain’t to bad either.

    Nice review. I have an old Drobo that has come to the end of its life and needs to be replaced. Based upon your review, I have moved this WD NAS device to the top of my list.

    8TB might be too big for the average person, but when you’re doing a whole lot of recording of live multi-cam streams and recording 4K multi-cam footage for exclusive TH-cam content, it all adds up. I bet it might take an entire day for the NAS HDDs in RAID 1 to catch up with a whole 6 hours of live recording to an SSD.

    It's probably going to serve your viewers well to advise them about more traditional CMR drives used in WD NAS, the newer SMR drives used in WD NAS and the differences between them. Especially the potential troubles that could be encountered when a RAID configuration fails whilst using SMR technology. Nowadays, cheaper WD Red (smaller capacity) drives sadly, tend to be SMR. I've had a 4TB My cloud Mirror Gen2 for some 6 or more years. Whilst it isn't the greatest NAS it has lasted without a drive failure since purchased. (touch wood!) It is running OS5 and it runs it better than the previous mess that was OS3. Great video btw 🙂

    I would say that PR2100 is an interesting product. It looks like something I would look into as an offsite backup. I have been using netgear readynas in the past.

    Will NAS allow documents to open on phone or tablet, edit and save easy?

    I may be revealing my ignorance on the subject with my question, but wondering how content on the drive can be accessed via My Cloud from an android device if the Cloud Access option is disabled? You mentioned light security. Why would someone want a NAS with light security, if the light security causes you to disable Cloud Access... I thought Cloud Access was the total point for having a NAS?

    Cool video- concerns for me about the device is has to be setup with the cloud. I’m not anti cloud - just hate when that’s all I have to use to access the device.

    • @CScottEdwardsScottGeek
      @CScottEdwardsScottGeek ปีที่แล้ว

      Cloud has always been optional with these WD NAS devices. You can absolutely set up just on your local network and lock it down.

    • @robeytech
      @robeytech  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct you do not need to use cloud and the setup we showed did not have it enabled.

    Had two WD NAS as well, was not satisfied at all. Too limited OS-wise. I have a TerraMaster F5-221 and installed Debian Linux and OMV to it. Before I had a QNAP where at least docker was possible.

      Yeah this is targeted at folks who want something easy and simple to setup an manage. Not for power users or more robust IT roll outs.

    I have been seraching for a NAS.
    This PR2100 is from 2015. So it is old. Very old and those models are not reniewed. The support ends in 2026. That means that it is not worth investing in it.
    I am using the DL2100. I have had some wired expeiences. I lost somet HDDs druing the course of use. The most wired thing was that the RAID config was lost a few times. Also it uses the Intel Atom C2xxx CPU that has built-in hardware error. A part of the CPU destroys itself due to a deisgn fault. WD did not offer any help to those who where affected... Anyway, as of now I am not recommending any WD NAS.
