The fact that this isn't on clutch gone rogue is insane lmao
🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤣🤣
facts 😂
Nah fr 😂
I don't see the problem,that's normal
If y'all ever seen "Jingle All the Way" with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sinbad, there's a scene where Sinbad is sitting next to Arnold in a diner and Sinbad starts telling a story of when he was a kid, he used to want a Johnny Seven OMA gun for Christmas so bad but never got one, and then some kid down the street got a Johnny Seven gun and he ended up becoming a billionaire and CEO. 😆😄
It was also filmed in my hometown of Minneapolis, MN & I still remember the scene where they were all in front of the toy store waiting for it to open & Sinbad just went off. Talking bout he studied psychology🤣
Classic Christmas movie 💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🐐
I really feel bad for Sinbad man lol
I played that movie so much the vhs tape started acting funny. That exact scene!! 😂😂
I came to the comments to see if anyone remembered that.
A lot of people may not know it, but the Flintstones was not made for kids. That’s why they have the cigarette commercial. It was a cartoon version of a show called the honeymooners. Basically it was just a cartoon sitcom for adults, but because it was a cartoon it also appealed to kids
It also was a prime time show in the evening when the kids should be in bed.
My understanding is that it is also the first time people were shown together in the bedroom, a big no-no back then.
It was basically The Simpsons of its time.
Exactly, neither was Bugs Bunny.
@@5stardavenot exactly, it was on at 4:30opm where I lived. It still was not made for kids. Only the specials, and the later Saturday morning version was made for kids.
Maxwell House and Folgers have literally been competing for forever 😂😂😂
Not gonna lie, that Johnny Seven O.M.A looked awesome and would've been a badass toy to have back in the day.
Fax I would have loved it as kid back in the day
F back in the day. It'd be awesome *_now._*
I knew someone who had a lawn-dart launcher. Was like a slingshot thing, that you wore on your wrist. Probably did a good job of getting height as you fired it up.
But we all know that was an anti-tank slingshot. I don't want no smoke with any kid who had one of those.
Gun is nearly as big as the kid lmao 😂
Yea when we were kids there was a rich kid that got the Johnny 7 for Christmas. He was the man. Playing army was always fun.
That Johnny Seven looked bad ass , but me and my brothers and all our friends got into the Remco Monkey Division toys they had a whole line of Military toys , Guns , Bazookas , mortar and rocket launchers , hand grenades uniforms , tents , etc. . My brothers and some of our buddies spent the night in the woods with are Remco Monkey Division gear 8-12 years old . . Scariest night of our lives nobody slept all night 😲
That's cause the Flintstones was for adults at first. Then changed to a children's cartoon later on.
I am extremely doubtful of that. Cartoons were for kids. Until about the 90’s when The Simpsons and then South Park started. Then many others followed.
I didn’t know that!
@@ozzybloke-craig3690 you can look it up then, the flitstones were an cartoon made for adults. Then turned into a more traditional childrens cartoon later. Theres a reason the flintstones smoked and drinked in their cartoon, micky mouse or the looney tones were not doing that lol.
In fact, All in the family, Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, were all inspired by the flitstones as the flintstones introduced the lumbering dumb dad character type.
Sort of. It was a parody of The Honeymooners.
I remember watching it when it aired in prime time. I also remember not getting all the gags, which I later realized was because they were aimed at my parents. Same could be said of a lot of the classic Bugs Bunny cartoons. The expected audience was a family, so they had a little for everyone.
There were a couple of other prime time cartoons. One short-lived one was Calvin and the Colonel which was based directly on Amos 'n Andy. Used some of the same scripts, or at least the plots. Even as a child I thought that was a bit much.
That fresh stick commercial was when it was ok to sleep with the boss 😂😂😂 true facts 💯😅
You mean it's not anymore?
@@allenruss2976 No.
@@natsinthebelfry In your alternative World, maybe.
Ask Kamala.
@@helensarkisian7491 Take your meds, weirdo.
I love how “The Nebula” has become Ross’ catchphrase
Frito Bandito voiced by the legend himself Mel Blanc
all i heard was speedy gonzalez!
Wild as these are, they're still a lot more entertaining and good at marketing their products than anything we've got now 😭
I thought that Fresh commercial was funny. "Unlike other deodorants that promise you a date with your boss, all we promise is that you smell good."
Exactly...the Fresh ads were parodying the extravagant claims of other deodorant ads. And they cut off the end tag:
"When you think about it...that's quite a lot"
11:29 I heard about this toy gun, they banned it because it was a choking hazard. Now they’re big collectors items. And as bad as cigarette advertising is, it does make some things iconic. Peter Brock’s A9X Torana wouldn’t be instantly recognisable without the Marlboro advertising, but it does make filming the car nowadays tricky, since it’s illegal to show cigarette advertising on TV in present day, so the ads are often blurred out or covered.
In some of the old movies and TV programs even the Doctors are smoking , sometimes even in the office and exam rooms 🫤🤭
Lmaooo the intro was wildddd already🤣
Folgers was founded in 1850. Abigail Floger was the heiress to the company. Unfortunately she was one of the Victims in the Manson Murd__s in 1969. These adverts were crazy
The intro was wild😂
That flintstones one was wild🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣6:21
My old man smokes Winston's and some of the dialogue ain't far off either 😂😂
They also did one for Busch Beer . . . Yabba Dabba DOOoooo burp 🥴
The Flintstones were an adult cartoon back in the day like top hat Tom and Jerry and the rest of the oldies 😅😅
so are the 1980s and 1990s cartoons when dexers lab had adult content and powerpuff powers and cow and chicken
That gun was arguably cooler than most toys on the market these days lol
Commercials were wild back then
That toy gun is almost as big as the kid, damn! Honestly it seems like a kick-ass toy, just give it a Nerf makeover and it'll be fine lol
the Flintstones was primetime cartoon aimed at adults, not children. It was based off the Honeymooners starring Jackie Gleason
Fun fact: Goofy Grape drink mixes originally advertised that they didn't need sugar because they were sweetened with Calcium cyclamate, which was later banned in the US in 1970.
For the Flintstones it was actually a prime time cartoon for adults, not for kids, hence the cigarette commercial. Only later after Pebbles was born did it change to be more family oriented.
I didn't know that the change was after Pebbles was born. I had heard the show was for more of an adult audience in the beginning
I’d like it when reactors react to things that other reactors are not reacting to.
Can you believe that I had this compilation of vintage commercials on my watch later list and I still haven’t watched it yet. Guess I’ll watch it along with you.
50 years ago, I was 16 and remember them all..
The Flintstones selling cigarettes was not geared towards kids, it was the 1st "prime time" animated series
They were selling to the parents
Was playing this loud and Frito bandito came on my girl heard it and just yelled "THAT'S RACIST!!" 😂 it's the 50s no one cared back then
PLEASEEEEEEEE do another one like this lmaooooo this shit was crazy and hilarious 😭😭😭😭😭 50 year ago commericals back then was crazy 😭
Didn’t know until now that I’ve always wanted a Johnny 7!
12:00 nerf dont have nothing on it
Frito Bandito is a catchy ass tune
12:54 AYOOOOO CAROLINE LOL🤨🤨🤨🤨
Sounds like a good time
15:57 “Sugary rice give HAPPY ENDING”…😮
Yeah, I caught that. 😂😂😂😂 Outlandish.
The biggest point about the deodorant commercial with secretary at the typewriter.... The deodorant is supposed to make her irresistible to he boss!!! That's how she is going to get ahead. Marrying up!
50 years ago, I was kindergarten. Some of these commercials were much older than 50 years, but these themes were still prevalent. I miss the beer commercials. The beer commercials of the 70's were epic. Anything with Schlitz Malt Liquor was a banger.
So, fun fact. the Flintstones wasn't actually meant to be a kid's show, but because kids at the time ended up loving the characters so much they decided to change it up.
If there are truly no men around, than you know it's safe to walk home... even in the dark.
When there's no men around that's when the animals attack .
This is one of the best US history lessons I have ever seen.
The 2 Wonder Women, Lynda Carter & Cathy Lee Crosby
❤❤❤❤ bangers
And of course the modern wonder woman the lovely gal gadot
Actually, the Flintstones didn't start as a cartoon. It was a adult animated series, due to the humor it had. It became a kids show in the mid 70s, when restrictions appeared about smoking & drinking. Also the FCC decided that it's not allowed anymore to promote products during the program, but instead allow commercials. So the networks played about 5 minutes of the program & 10 minutes commercials, making a 20 minute show, last 1 hour. Good example the price is right.
If I remember correctly, the dude who was the original Marlboro Man spokesman/model ended up dying of lung cancer.
Funny
Didn't they even made a reference to him in the "Thank you for smoking" movie? I think they used the original actor of the old commercial... he even said: "I didn't even smoke Marlboro! I prefered... *another brand name* cigarettes!".
That is some irony right there
@@gabrielesolletico6542 Yeah that sounds familiar too, ha.
if there's no man around, do you let a bear change your tire?
I change the tire myself ... and then go pick up the bear
If the bear can change a tire 💀
The whole Bear over a man thing is stupid
The Flintstones were inspired by Jackie Gleason's "The Honeymooners", a sitcom about the life of a cranky bus driver, his wife and their friends
Everybody used to smoke. When I was 12, I smoked around my parents. Odd.....when you really think about it.
This and you guys have me cracking up!!! I’m 64 years old and remember some of these crazy commercials. You two have made my morning so much better. 😂
Frito bandits lives in all our hearts of the early seventies especially if you were kid that got the bandits free pencil eraser.
Everybody knew and hummed that jingle at one time or another and the Fritos were good eats , especially since the potato chip variety was
extremely limited flavor wise not like today , at the little corner store it was Plain or BBQ chips , pretzels and Fritos and then the new fangled
Bugles came out . Mr. Barts corner store may have been short on salty snacks but his candy selection was a kids wonderland 😃😃
Goofy Grape been hitting that Hennessy lmaoo
lol! You gotta do more of these!
Being a child of the 60's I have personally seen a few of these. Ahh the good Ole days.....lolz❤❤ (edit) Only way to have coffee black , I get headaches if I don't have at least 1 , 24 Oz. Columbian blend , black coffee a day . Great vid guys. I remember the Frito Bandito , Goofy Grape , Marlboro Beech Nut , Flintstones Winston's, Had a Rice Krinkles Mustang Fastback. Liked !!!
The Flintstones in a cigarette commercial wow these were some crazy commercials.
You have to realize the Flintstones wasn't a kid's cartoon. It was a prime time show like the Simpsons or Family Guy today. They weren't advertising to children. You should also know that Hanna-Barbera, creators of the Flintstones, made a PSA that was anti-smoking aimed at kids just a few short years later featuring Yogi Bear and Boo Boo.
I had a Frito Bandito eraser. Maybe, two. The copier ad is clever in that she is a copy of Marilyn Monroe.
These commercials are designed by men who did not want to offend, less it harm the image of their product! The irony. A few are obviously Madison Ave Mad Men examples of misogyny.
The intro wild 😭😭 13:03 pause 😂😂😂😂
These commercials may be impolitically correct today. But we as a society are still very ignorant of each other in 2024
Johnny 7, the one man wrecking crew
I listen to a old horror radio podcast from the 50's and they leave the old commercials in, it's crazy how different they were
The rice crinkles was from the show called “Linus the Loin heart” that was sponsored by Post cereal before FCC canceled the show.
That Flintstones commercial is legendary.
I still have several Frito Bandito pencil erasers from the early 1970s, and I have a light blue Mustang fastback as shown in that Rice Krinkles commercial, I'd completely forgotten where it came from.
11:28 if fortnite was a thing back then.
Fortnite 😂
Trueeee
None of these commercials put together can hold a candle to that one infomercial you reacted to about the guy that ended his wife over an iPad.
These commercials were out of control 😂
Cool reaction as always Dub & Ross 💯
I definitely remember the Goodyear commercial with the woman walking in the dark to find a phone booth. I think that one played during the day a lot in the year before I started school.
It’s just how things were and it’s refreshing. True freedom of speech
So all old ads were for cigarettes, chewing tobacco, coffee, tires, and deodorant. That is literally it 😂
4:24 original 20v1s basically
I'm 62 and I remember riding my bike and singing "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should" No wonder I started smoking at eleven full time. Unfortunately I smoked until I was 47
im not old enough to have seen the folger's commercial but I remember my grandpa having those crystals every morning and I hated coffee until I was in my 30s because it was the only kind I'd ever had lol
When there's no man around, call him.
The fridge full of Kool-aid pitchers with slanted eyes... Rots of ice!
I remember a lot of them commercials and I still sing the Frito Bandito song every time I eat Fritos
Noice. So glad you mentioned The Sandlot. It is a great movie from my childhood.
Flintstones was originally promoted for adults to watch.
Watch Jingle All The Way Sinbad character was talking about that Johnny Seven O.M.A I can't believe that was real.
“Go drink off that water fountain old” is wild!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m just in my later 40s and already find it hilarious that you guys are shocked by the gun toys.
Nah, even in medieval times people knew teenagers weren't fully grown. The average age a woman got married in ancient and medieval times was late teens to mid twenties.
I don't remember cherry Funny Face being called Chinese Cherry, unless it was before 1963.
I remember it as Choo-choo Cherry, and he wore a little train conductor's cap.
Flintstones were a primetime show just like the Simpsons.
I rock with content 😎👍🏿. You aint to go solo yet Ross, the dream of the team is strong with you my friend.
About Flintstones, cigarettes, and kids... I don't know how long they had them, but high schools in the '80s had smoking areas somewhere on the campus (at least the two I attended).
Side note: You used to be able to see rifles and shotguns in gun racks in trucks in the student parking lot.
I remember that, it was normal so no one gave a hoot
I remember that, it was normal everyday thing. No one gave a hoot
I recommend the old school either Delta or American Airlines commercials from the 70s. Some serious double meaning with the sexy flight attendants.
Oh i already seen this vid. Yall in for some crazy commercials idk how someone on the marketing team back then didnt see these ads and think “hey doesnt this seem like a awful idea?” Its crazy.
The bulls with the tobacco, The Flintstones and the deodorant commercials blew my mind🤣🤣🤣🤣
11:19 Feels manly, but sips coffee from a tiny china tea cup
The Flintstone's was a prime time show when it first aired, not a Saturday morning cartoon for kids.
I am 61 years old and I did not see any cartoons associated with cigarette smoking. As mentioned before, the Flintstones was not a kid show.
The cigarette companies did not need to use cartoons to advertise cigarettes for kids. There were regular cigarette commercials on television with adults. All the tobacco companies advertised on television. Have you ever heard of the Marlboro man? I think you may still see it in magazines, but we saw it on television.
We really didn’t need cartoons to encourage kids to smoke cigarettes because we had candy cigarettes. that’s how they encourage kids to smoke cigarettes. The candy cigarettes were sticks of bubblegum and there was a powder we blew out as “smoke”
Back In the day they didn't believe smoking gave you cancer and that'd another reason for the commercials
Have they seen the Wilkins Coffee ads?
Some of those ads are from the 60s. Flintstones was a primetime adult show.
LOL Goodyear... 'That was the tire back then?'
Johnny Seven got me rollin
When the Flintstones came on I’m rolling 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂. Yeah back years ago you could buy cigarettes at 8 years old!
Holy shit, my dad has the Johnny 7 gun. One of the few toys he ever had on the farm as a kid. Even when I was a kid, I thought it was cool how the pistol pulled out from the bottom. Went through tons of cap strips with that toy. I wonder if you can even find cap strips anymore?
Back then you could smoke on a plane, restaurant, at school, or at work. I bought my first pack of cigarettes for .55 cents in 1977. A pack of Marlboro's today is over $ 9.00
By the time I started watching the Flintstones in the early 70s, it was in syndication, in color and the cigarette ads were removed. I never saw Fred and Barney smoke until I’d seen it on TH-cam.
I was in the Nebulla 😂😂😂😂 I gotta use that more often
Rip Abigail Folgers.. damn. Every time I hear the name Folgers I think of her death.
11:39 Alexa play "Pumped Up Kicks"
