It's easy to forget how well the actress performs as dithering Mavis.
I've just binge-watched 2 years worth of classic Corrie at a fairly crap point in my life. I stumbled across it on TH-cam after too many wines about a week ago. Thank you ProfessionalGun66 for the quality uploads of a British show that reminds us all of when Corrie was unmissable. Keep 'em coming. xx
I hope the point in your life wasn't so terrible. Wish you all the best.
I started watching these when I was on hospital. Sounds similar!
I think Hilda it hilarious 😂 genius😅
I'm doing the same in 2024! God bless the guy who uploaded them.
Rita's one liners are brilliant. To Mavis:. Your nostrils are that flared I could back a bus up 'em. 🤣
Rita was a real bitch. Those scumbag Furcloughs caused Mavis a lot of unnecessary stress.
Gail and Brian moving into their new house - they reminded me things like toasters and irons used to come with no plug on them - them were the days elecrical appliances with no plugs and suitcases with no wheels - how did we manage
I honestly think Bill Podmore made a mistake killing off Renee. She was a great character, sarcastic and a hopeless gossip. It’s my 3rd time watching these episodes and I always feel at a bit of a loss.
Same here.
I agree Liam. With all due respect to Brian Mosely, Alf Roberts was one of the wettest characters in Corrie. No one would have missed him. Renee had potential that the writers clearly couldn't be arsed to work on.
Agree too. I also thought her brother Terry was a great character too.
Agreed. He probably thought the viewers wouldn't care about her death, but there definitely is a conspicuous void there because of her permanent absence. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who really liked her character and hates how they killed her off.
@@tracygrant7931 Same here, Renee was a great character and it was a horrible way to write her out.
Such a shame what happened to Peter Dudley, Bert was such a great character pity he wasn’t around longer.
Other than the fact that he says "you know what I mean" at least once in every sentence, he is the best Tilsley.
Very sad! I was really shocked to find out he was only 44 in these episodes then died at 48! He was lovely 😊
Don’t mean to cause trouble but wasn’t Peter Dudley involved with the Police for some misdemeanours?
@@Milarkimilarki Peter was openly gay and was caught exposing himself to another man in public.
Bear in mind that in the 1980s the world was nowhere near as liberal as it is today when it comes to homosexuality and equality.
Corrie producers stood by him.
He was caught again later with what Peter suspected was a sting operation.
The investigations and publicity that followed took its toll on Peter's health.
Peter Dudley was openly gay
Ivy's "our Brian" is too much.
I like Renee. So much better than Audrey
I was just listening to an interview with Madge Hindle from 2020. She's 84 now
Remember hating ivy and Brian back then. Proper little mummy's boy and ivy was every daughter in law's nightmare. But I suppose that's the greatness of the actors.
And Gail...? She was by far the worst out of the lot. She whinges and moans in every single scene.
@@fluxington Gail and dedrie annoyed me no end. Jack and Vera at the beginning too. Oh and Rita. Her constant sniping at Mavis in the kabin and looking down on Hilda who I thought was and is one of the greatest characters to grace the cobbles
I have to say it, I can't stand Gail's as she is such a winger and incredibly annoying. Her and Brian are pains in the arse.
R. Brian couldn't act his way out of a paper bag. I wish he'd backflip his way right out the door. And Gail's character fluctuated between whiney nag, ickle baby voiced child, and self righteously angry, flouncy outbursts. Not a redeemable quality in sight. She also had a face like a muffin.
@@bsaunders5271 She's bloody lucky to have been kept on all these years. If they'd have let her go around this time, I doubt we'd have seen in her a lot of things over all these years. Same goes for a lot of them there now
She was so unreasonable about that house, which would prove to make their life miserable. And Fred with the new barmaid, did he think he had a chance 😆🤮
@@amyishere67, totally agree with you. Xx
Gail was fine until they brought in Brian. She became a pain in the arse pretty quickly.
Ken “Are you not opening up?”
Alf “No. no-not yet.”
Ken “Everyone understands.”
Then why ask, Ken. Alf’ll open the shop when he’s ready. Not right after Renee’s
death.
Betty's pityfilled voice does make me smile at times.
Poor Renee - still Madge Hindle must have been relieved it was just the character they killed off - i liked both the character and the actress its a shame she got the chop
I thought Renee and Alf were a brilliant couple. Gutted she left.
This is my third or fourth time watching these great uploads, thanks again. Renee's mother is a pain in the neck!
No wonder Gail wanted the 1 bedroom house with Ivy squeaking at them like they were 5 years old
The only person ever to give Ivy a run for her money in the annoyance stakes, was Gail.
Gail's vile..spoilt spoilt brat..cant stand her..Ivy's a Saint compared to her
Worse than Les Dawson's mother in law
Fred is cringe.
Arnold telling Emily who can or can not live in her house. 🤐
Bet Lynch..brilliant.
Poor Renee literally just died at the end of July, and already it feels like everyone has completely moved on from her!
I loved Renee, she was a great character, funny, sarcastic, quick witted.... then she met Alf and I thought their relationship was brilliant. I saw her die on screen when I was 7 and have never forgotten the sight of her lying on the seat, staring... for me it was a shame they killed her off.
I listened to an interview with Madge Hindle the other day - she’s still going strong. Said she & Bryan Moseley thought the Renee & Alf relationship was good but that Podmore & others in the cast didn’t think it worked. She said that Bryan was disappointed she was written out because he wanted Alf to have a lasting and happy relationship.
She said she’s still good friends with some including Thelma Barlow and that her young daughter hated seeing her on screen death.
I think it’s a shame they wrote Renee out. She was more interesting than Alf!
I liked the character of Rene Bradshaw but I preferred the comedic pairing of Audrey and Alf Roberts.
Betty’s taken over ( in a good way) from Ena Sharples. She’d have done what Betty did-ringing the NSPCC.
Emily and Deirdre talk too adult-like to Tracy, about her being ‘competition’ for Deirdre etc.
I agree
Exactly what I thought like 2 months back... Now I know it's worse in this month if someone else thought it too
Don't be ridiculous, people taking that way too seriously
Thank goodness for fast forward when The Tilsleys start up.
Amen to that.
Hilda makes me laugh 😂 because she loved gossip and can be very nosey lol 😂 thank you 🙏 for the upload I remember the old ones and have many memories
I always thought it was crazy Brian & Gail wanting to buy a 1brm house rather than rent a 2brm one when they had a baby on the way.
Gail threatening to move to her mams if u can't get her way if I was Brian I would of packed her cases for her spoilt cow
@lucywilliamsx1002 You try living with Poison Ivy as a mother-in-law and you will soon see poor Gail's point of view, my dear 😉!
Great actor Peter Dudley.. sadly missed
Could you edit your post "Spoiler Alert" if you are going to blab a storyline that most of us on here didn't know about? Cheers.
I’m so happy to find Coranation St
On you tube. Never found it anywhere on the telle in the US.
East Enders was Good and on PBS. Coranation is the Topper.
Love , Love Love it. Thank you,
@@SuzyQ334 it happened in the 1980s ya lummox 😂
@@SuzyQ334 I'd imagine that 'most of us on here' remember the story lines perfectly well.
Where was Julie Goodyear throughout all the Rene business? Seems strange that Bet wasn't involved as they were such great mates - presumably something personal in real life.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe Julie Goodyear had annual leave, if so it was very bad timing, as Bet was such good pals with Renee and it looked odd that she wasn't around.
Looking at Bet she looks very tanned so maybe JG had a holiday abroad.
Didn't she have cancer at this time?
@@dominewimbury2039 Possibly.. I was just curious
@@dominewimbury2039 she did in 1979
Have you noticed how nearly everyone in the street has their workplace about five minutes from their home.
Bit puzzled that just after Betty told the kids to cross the road her way, because she saw that copper, she didn't even look before she crossed over the road herself. Loved Betty but that was odd
Now I know why Bet told the new barmaid there was something ‘funny’ about Fred, that they didn’t like to draw attention to! So she’d be looking him up and down-and he’d think she fancied him!
Fred just oozes awfulness.
@@bsaunders5271 by all accounts the actor who played Fred was the same as the character... Only more so.
@@TheMeeja absolutely
Loved coronation street in the 70/80s ,it was full of brilliant characters, and very funny compared to todays in name only version my god how boring and depressing it is now, especially miserable eeyore peter barlow, what a depressing character pleade get rid ,bet Betty hilder ogden and stanley ,mrs walker albert tatlock, oh how i wish it was that good again but no not todsy it has to be aimed at the young as if they dont get enough of their own way ,cant stand it now , happy days sadly gone
Alf was blamed for Renees death by her mother and the guy who was chased away from the shop was Peter Ellis who previously played a policeman, a fireman and another character. He also played a policeman on Emmerdale Farm before playing Chief Superintendent Charles Brownlow in The Bill.
He used to walk around pissed a lot in Brighton in the late 90's. I once saw him walk into a door at Safeways supermarket.
Good spot... Never noticed that!
His other Corrie role was the hotel manager of the posh hotel Stan and Hilda went to when they won their "second honeymoon" in a magazine competition.
Yes that’s right
Mavis and that mousey voice and demeanor! Ugh
35:36 Lovely gesture, Mike Baldwin offering Hilda and Eddie a lift.
Why are Gail and Brian buying a one bedroom house with a baby on the way, they should have been looking for a 2 bedroom house so baby 👶🏻 can have a nice nursery, thank you for the upload I ❤the Oldies
That Arleens husband is the same one who was the blondes husband who fancied Fred a few years earlier
what's that annoying sort of fluttering sound you hear sometimes through the video? i suppose it's something to do with the tape the recording's are from?
Budgies
I wonder if ‘Reg’-the kids’ real dad-could be Reg Holdsworth! Sounds like him...
thx
That's Mavis's fancy man.
I hate when people do the best out of 3 when there tossing the coin and losing.
Eddy had a big heart.
he was brilliant and the chemistry between hilda and eddie the son she never had seen that her own son was never really in the show.................. stan / hilda/ eddie together brilliant. remember i great line hilda was away for a while she came back and the house was spotless stan said what did you execpt... reply i thought you might have taken in a gang off hells angels with motorbikes in my front hall... brilliant
Emily has no good judgement or instincts whatsoever over this slimeball Arnold. I can pick a bad person a mile off. Always have been able to.
It's interesting that this outdoor set has a real viaduct that people can go through. I don't remember the second outdoor set, which would have been from 1982, from what I remember ever having one. And Grape Street was a real residential street in Manchester from what I've read. So why didn't Granada keep the real houses and just build half front facades?
It just goes to show how different we all are because i cldnt stand Renee's Voice or character and was glad when she went and Bert got on my nerves too, never missed him either.
Renee reminded me of some one that should be in ballamory
I'm glad it's not just me. Couldn't stand her voice. I'm not sure which was worse-- hers or Mavis'.
Grieving or not if I was Alf I would have just told Renee's mother and stepfather to stay in a hotel. I wouldn't have had her staying with me.
47:39 Bert was right. Bloody ell Ivy!
Mike was pretty down to earth
Listen up, you lot. Baldwin will show you how it’s done. 🤣
Loved that so much haha
What makes me laugh is the fact that Alf looses his wife and it’s forgotten about in about 5 mins!
Deirdre putting pressure on poor Alf just after his loss. She was so pushy and selfish back then.
In later years, Arthur turned up as Mr Dulcie Froggatt. 2:17:25
It doesn't take much to be beter than Audrey.
WHY, in the name of Christ, would Mrs Walker leave that dafty, Fred, in charge?
1:26:56 Hilda scores one in the eye for Mrs Walker 😂
Ivy works sitting down so she has sat down all day
2:20 Betty was so sweet - pity she was underused in latter years. My earliest memories are of watching Corrie on Irish TV with my mum in the early 80s. She has been watching it since the 60s!
It's funny to see a young-Gail, years before OurBrian® was murdered and she was driven into the canal by yer man 😂
So, the truck driver who loved Yorkie bars ended up as a policeman in Weatherfield...
I still cant work out why Brian had a Geordie accent.
He was from Middlesborough in the North East so not a Geordie accent. The cast had accents from all over the North of England.
@@seansmith445 Yes true, but in Corrie legend he was born and bred in Manny.
@@skapunkno1 His on screen mother was from Yorkshire and his dad a Mancunian.

42:42 Shut up, Fred!
Church bells in back ground dont hear them anymore
2:44:50 psycho / red flag alert Emily...
Mikes unbuttoned shirt and medallion 😂😂😂
Ken in a leopard print leotard! 🤢😂
I liked Freds wife Edna, she was fun and glamerous - its a shame she got killed off - i think Vera Duckworth was brought in to replace her they were similar type characters
George played the grandad in bread
First time I’ve heard church bells down coronation street 🤔
Emily, Emily, your being manipulated.
Good grief Emily 🆘

RUN YOU FOOL🤫😭⚖️🎬🆘🎭🇬🇧💯👍🤯✌️
1:51:15 is Fred wearing Len’s jacket?
Notice Ivy didnt toast
Hilda was poisoned chalice at times. Her interfering & thirst for gossip went way too far sometimes… I mean even spreading scandal and bad words about the death of Renee & Alfs possible drinking. Alf wasn’t even at the damn wheel when Renee died & her car was stationary.. FFS!.. it was a pure accident..,
Yep Hilda had a nasty tongue allright !
Sorry to say corrie now are days is not same
If Brian and Gails new house is a one bedroom I'll eat me hat 😊
Ok Emily red flags popping up regarding your boyfriend!
SHE WAS DRIVING. Why are they flipping out because Alf had too much to drink and she decided to drive?? I don’t understand how he is at fault, he was NOT behind the wheel. She was probably over the limit as well, even more NOT ALFS FAULT
Renee only had a learner's permit, so legally Alf was in charge of the vehicle - which he had vacated, leaving the learner at the wheel alone in the car, and he failed the breathalyzer, making it even worse.
Arnold was right bossy.
A creepy bully and control freak.
1:35:32 MCFC
Steri milk on the Ogden table 🤢
Where was Renee's brother??
Back in the army - couldnt get leave to get there in time
How can Betty say the mother is a misery she's lost her daughter Betty wea misery when her son Gordon got married and she wasn't there and Ken saying are you opening up
Written in the style of an Argos review.
Is the children's mother the same woman Emily Bishop took in when she was being beaten up by her husband?
Deirdre was a very attractive woman.
She really was
She was around this time, now she has lost the poundage she put on between 1977-79. Shame she's soon going to be wasted on old boring Ken.
@@TheGlassman63 she had got rather hamster cheeked, then she reappeared with cheekbones and a tan.
Eeeeww!… She was a right moose.. Thise god awful thick rimmed goggles of hers didn’t help either…
Catty Emily. ??The biggest snob on the street.
29:37 : )
Youse housewifes could learn something from what happened to poor Renee - Stop nagging your menfolks for petty reasons and make sure he leaves the house with a big smile on his face - It mught be the last time you see him alive
Alf Roberts should man up for driving in honor of his wife's accident
What does that even mean?
Corr!…. The new Barmaid Arlene was a bit of Alright…. Bet was jealous of her… She was well sexier than beehive bet… Mind you the thought of Fred Gee thinking he’d got any kind of chance of pulling her… Don’t make me laugh… Old Ten Bellies Fred stood no chance…
The character of Fred Gee was evil.
What did he do that was evil?
