CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) and Gary (Vince Vaughn) argue over whose family has more problems.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A once-loving Chicago couple whose happily-ever-after quickly turned into a never-again finds their crumbling romance complicated when both parties refuse to move out of the pair's recently purchased condo. The Break-Up is a romantic comedy that starts where all the others end. The future once looked promising for thirtysomething couple Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) and Gary (Vince Vaughn), but lately it seems like a series of increasingly petty and intolerable squabbles have snuffed any semblance of romance in their relationship. Their confrontation endlessly fueled by mean-spirited suggestions of revenge tactics from friends and family and their stubborn refusal to budge resulting in an excruciating stalemate, Brooke and Gary ultimately decide to spitefully stick it out as hostile roommates until the weaker party eventually admits defeat. As the competition to drive one another out grows increasingly intense and outrageous, however, Brooke eventually comes to the realization that she's not fighting for possession of the condominium as much as she is fighting to salvage her relationship with the man she once viewed as the love of her life.

Man needs his space
How can you marry someone as manipulative as she is. Everything that she does, is to manipulate him into doing something. He's lazy and kind of a crappy boyfriend, but she is a terrible person. All the things that he does, is a reaction to her and her manipulation. Go scene by scene and she's just an awful person. Even her best friend tries to convince her not to do the things that she does. And then when she finally does have the conversation with him, that she should have had the day after the breakup, he attempts to change into the person that she wants him to be. And she rejects him.

Ehh...she's also typical of a Hollywood type....nice to look at but you'd never want to marry one. My wife used to idolize her but now she realizes that she's better off without having followed in her footsteps. She still keeps tabs about her and says it's really sad she didn't leave that Hollywood liberal outlook. Jennifer Aniston has nobody, really...she's gone through multiple divorces, has no kids, does Liberal Politics and will likely die alone with nobody but strangers adoring her. When we look at this movie today, we see the liberal fantasy tropes about "Independent Women".... and people giving bad advice about relationships....the woman who plays Aniston's sister and is a "Married wife" actually never had a stable relationship and is also childless. Again, this is just Hollywood trying to "teach" about relationships it has no business in teaching. If you want to find a person to spend your life with, the LAST thing you should learn from is Hollywood Movies. If you want to know a good person, do what everyone has done since time immemorial: look at their personal life and see if they have things in order. (Vince Vaughn is one of the only actors in this movie who actually has a respectable family life)

This is a great example that everyone needs to have a space they can call their own. We, humans, grow up towards independence and work towards carving a place we can call our own, but then we co-habitat with a significant other and loose our own bed, our own bathroom, our own bedroom, our own kitchen, our own garage, sometimes our own car or bank account, etc. If you want your relationship to thrive over time, have some time and space for each that is not shared. You're going to spend a lot of time together, having your own corner where you enjoy your own hobbies and tv-shows is healthy for the relationship, otherwise, you end up in a co-dependent mess where one doesn't function without the other but your also functioning poorly with each other, meaning you're in a dysfunctional relationship.

Yes, but the difference is that her toxicity came as a result of defending herself. Like most decent women, she gave a lot, did not ask for much, but somehow, she always seemed to get nothing in return; the "lemons" scene is a great example of this. And this movie, though quite funny, was also very sad. Sad, because it is difficult to watch a relationship implode, under any circumstances. This film is, however, good viewing material for men who act similarly. There is a lot of truth in comedy and this film is a really good example of that.

I mean, I totally get Brooke's point (even when I don't share her idea to "solve their problems"), and along the movie we can see Gary's brother and friend arguing with him about the same things Brooke did before, so she wasn't crazy after all. Whatever, such a great movie, very realistic, so painful. My favorite scene is when they look at each other in the "naked poker party", and she doesn't do anything, just looks at him feeling so disappointed again and he knows it as well. I cried so much because this movie reminds me of someone, who I used to argue a lot with, but I never meant to lose... The reason why I have lived with my heart broken all these years...
This film was very funny, but quite sad at the same time. This film takes us from the birth, and to the eventual death, of a relationship, which can be quite a ride. Anyone with a heart will find it tremendously difficult to watch a relationship implode. Maybe this film should be required viewing for all those couples who believe they have a future, and are just starting out.
For me, this film was difficult to watch at times because many of the moments came pretty close to home. Like Gary, I learned most my relationship lessons way too late, and at some great cost. However, for what it's worth, I did learn these lessons well and I can only hope that I am better for it today.
