The wedding took place on 3rd May (Grace's brother-in law had been executed that morning), Joe's execution was on 4th.

@@paulkenny6532 That is not what happened. Grace was told to be at the Gaol at 6 p.m. and was. She was left to wait in a cold, dark room for 4 hours, then brought to the chapel. Joe was brought in, handcuffed and the two of them were told to stand in front of the altar, but not to touch each other apart from as necessary for the ceremony. Joe's handcuffs were removed. The chapel was lit by candlelight.
The ceremony proceeded, then Joe's handcuffs were replaced and he was taken away. The priest brought Grace to a house in the area to rest.
At about 2 a.m. soldiers arrived at the house to bring Grace back to the Gaol and she was brought to Joe's cell which was filled with armed soldiers and one soldier holding a watch. They were told they had 10 minutes.
In the circumstances they could speak about nothing personal. Joe told Grace about things that had happened in the GPO and Moore Street until they were told their time was up. The priest brought Grace to another house until the curfew was over.

Great work getting his sad story across but at least he died true to himself and his country. Mar a deirtear tiocfaidh ár lá.
