Enter the Battlefield: Going Home Again

This episode is different than a typical Enter the Battlefield. It's more personal, and intimate. We visit the extended family of series creator Nathan Holt, who's spread his love of Magic to siblings, nephews, and niece. He didn't grow up with them, but Magic became a way to build their relationship anew. As Magic celebrates its 25th Anniversary, we reflect on the ways that the game is passed from one generation to the next.

This was a very raw and personal video. My favorite of the entirw series so far. I am an uncle and father and try to balance work and family but still try and make sure to have something like Magic that connects everyone. Not going to lie almost got emotional at a few moments watching this episode. Can't wait to chat with you Nathan.

It's awesome to see a game bring someone's family closer together...especially when they grew apart, got older and became adults. For it to be Magic no less makes it that much more amazing. The game really does allow a person to show or represent their personality and playstyle uniquely and in vastly different ways. A color or theme or archetype resonates at a deeper level than just, "Oh I like this color/theme/archetype because it's cool." Cases in point, a Green player because he enjoys amassing a large army quickly, and a Black player because she has an interest/intrigue in Death.
I'm happy for you and your family Nate. The bonds have only grown stronger, and I'm betting will continue to do so for future generations. Please continue to do followups on this from time to time. Perhaps not with just your family, but friend's families as well.
