ALEX the exploding buttock hipposhack Storm crow came to counter the bad cube curse, storm crow was all that Graham needed. He refused the calling of the storm crow, and so all his commons shall be homelands henceforth. So it has been written, so as is tradition.
you don't seem to understand the power that the storm crow possesses. The storm crow can fly through lightning and be unaffected. With just its flight pattern alone it can change the seasons. The storm crow is a brutally powerful card, and those who ignore it must suffer its wrath. Storm crow is love, storm crow is life. Repent, for your insolent actions shall only bring misery to you.
This was my first friday nights video and my first foray into the wonderful worlds of lrr and the mtg community. I knew next to nothing about what was happening in the video, but I enjoyed it nonetheless and now I couldn’t be happier about my discovery four years ago. Thanks so much, runners
In the end credits scene, why was Graham so distressed? The pack had a Storm Crow in it. If he had revealed it, the rest of the players would probably concede, as the power of the Crow is impossible to beat.
scw55 Good, I'm not the only one who notices it. Also I just now noticed a small but very visible error at 4:32 . It goes from James going through the cards and Alex's hands being empty to Alex holding cards and James hands not even near the box.
I choose to believe that with that much pure unadulterated value floating around, after a single playthrough, every single card was added into a modern deck.
.Blaze. Everyone has the Likes and dislikes. Me I like to try and build good decks that aren't used by pro's on the pro tour or have won GP's and I mean the exact deck list. not the theme. I built my own version of esper control and i am testing it out saturday.
Kizer5Red Then there are the cards which may not be fun for others, but are sure fun for me....like Grave Betrayal. Nothing ever really dies, everyone just gives me gifts :D
I know I’m 5 years late watching these videos but what is “the moonbase”, is it someone’s place of business that everyone hangs out at, or is it like a group rented space that is the designated hangout spot?
So ... what exactly is a cube? I tried to google it but every result I found expected me to know the exact meanings of bunch of other terms, like "cycles" and "drafting," so it didn't really help. For reference I used to play magic but not since the release of Antiquities when I realized I'd never stop spending money on it if I kept playing. PS: I enjoy this series, I just usually have no idea what exactly is happening. But this cube thing I can't quite figure out from context.
TPRJones "Cube" is, for reasons lost to time, a term for home-rolled draft formats. You take a pile of cards, chosen by whatever method you desire (which, in a giant pile, I guess is kinda cube-shaped? I think is where the name is from?) then shuffle it up, divide it into random boosters, and draft it, in any of the different ways you could draft normal packs. There are different types of cubes... the most common is what's being discussed in this video - a collection of very good cards, leading to a format much more powerful (and much more complex) than your average limited format. But there are other options, be it a cube full of terrible cards (which sounds interesting in theory, but actually turns out to be pretty miserable to play), or a cube of only commons (the "pauper cube" mentioned in the video), or a cube of only red cards, or whatever you want. If you search around, you can probably find lists other people have come up with for cubes of whatever flavour you care to think of...
Phillip Bradbury I see, thank you. I think the name is probably what was making it more confusing than it needed to be. But why is it separated into boosters? Isn't drafting where you randomly draw cards from a pool? If so why not just draft from the entire cube?
TPRJones Like the rotisserie draft from the last video? That's certainly one way to do it. But a much more common method is "booster draft" - each player gets a booster (an actual sealed booster for a normal draft, or a pile of 15 cards for cube draft), chooses one, and passes the rest to their left. They'll then get passed 14 cards from the player on their right, pick one, pass that, get passed 13, and so on. Subsequent packs get opened and passed in alternating directions, usually 3 in total. Then you build your deck out of the cards you picked. There are many ways to do limited, many of which can also be applied to cube, but this is the most common.
Phillip Bradbury Oh, wow, you just blew my mind there. All these years of watching Friday Nights and when they were so carefully studying the cards I thought they were evaluating what they had randomly gotten not actually making choices about which cards to keep. I don't recall ever seeing the passing part so I never made that connection. Clearly there's much more strategy to drafting than I thought there was (which would be basically none if it were all random). Now I'm going to have to go back and watch every Friday Nights video again. I suspect this will lend clarity to some parts.
I really over thought the title before I watched the video, I thought that it was in reference to the new packs since they're rectangles and rectangles have six sides.
StarkMaximum He moved to Vancouver, making it difficult to appear regularly. You can watch him on twitch.tv/StreamBros 3 times a week, though, if you want. :-)
Are you sure that version of the Paul Saunders card is rare, and not mythic? Ramp could get that out in 1-3 turns, and when summoning sickness ends, it can only be blocked by artifacts, and is a 5 turn clock.
I just realized that Wandering Tombshell was in Graham's pack, meaning that not ONLY that James didn't get rid of it, he's been UPDATING IT. Why James?! Why?!!!
Cam stole it for me. It was nice to have matt back. But I still want to play the evil cube. On the subject of cube, cracking a box if conspiracy as a starting point for a cube: y/n?
WilhelmScreamer That really depends on the type of cube you want to build, but I'd probably say no. You'd be better off putting that $100 into buying singles for a cube. But, a good alternative is to get your friends together and draft the box of conspiracy. Just say everyone can draft it free, but you want your cards back at the end. Much better than cracking the box itself.

"He's gonna die!?"
"Huh, no no, he'll probably just start playing commander."

You almost died?? No, no, you were probably just gonna start playing commander or something.
Metsani44 Lol!
I had a case of the

0:09 "JAMES!" (cut) "james."
Am I crazy, or does anyone else really REALLY want to play the bad cube?
Yes, actually, I do!
Gaming Wildlife You crazy! hahaha
Oh, no. HE AIN"T CRAZY YOU CRAZY!
I realy wanna draft that cube.
That bad cube is my life when you add conspiracies
That storm crow is the hidden piece of the power nine
Gram should feel blessed by the storm crow god

I know Matt is busy, but I miss him in these. He's my favorite character. Nice to see him have a cameo at least.
I would totally draft a mono red cube. Actually I would draft most Cubes event the strictly worst cube at least once.
Ian Mayberry I'd draft a mono-red cube as well..
Same
Ian Mayberry I'd draft the hell out of a mono red cube
Ian Mayberry Sounds like Charge creatures and Burn Spells. And some Douche somehow winning because of Worldfire.
Cubes are like a miracle of the universe. I proxied power and created my own Vintage Cube and it's AWESOME. God bless anyone who creates a cube.
"Tell me something that's not blue or black." "Mind funeral." "That's blue and black!" Love this episode
Aww, this makes me sad. I built a cube about a year ago and still haven't gotten an 8 stack together to draft it :(
And yes, it also has Skithiryx.
Crimzin I'll draft
Crimzin ill draft it
Skittles

This is a group of friends I can only dream of having
New goal for Desert Bus... give money for James to dance!! It is a thing to behold!!! LOVE THIS!
Matt being Jazzy Jeff killed me
Love these videos from LRR. Thanks.

Is Matt getting thrown out a reference to Jazz getting thrown from the fresh prince of bel air?
It most definitely is
“I just got that.”
What about the Modern Masters cube they always TOTALLY intended to build?
cam kills it, as per usual.
Is that... MATT WIGGINS!?!?!?!?!?! :O
Yes, the angel lord is back.
Brian Irvine and he's gone.
Awwww, I really wanted the Angel Lord to finally win a commander game.
Hey, do you know how to spell skitherix correctly?
Aiboy20 Airship Builder I do: Skithiryx
Don't know how he's mad about that pack opening at the end, he pulled a frickin' STORM CROW
I swear this is the most accurate show on magic playing I've seen...
Omg it's Matt! Awesome appearance by the way
K The Gamer eh, needs more toad.
Luis Macias Adaptive Snapjaw's flavor text!
The pith helmet on Paul just slays me, my colleagues are starting to wonder what I'm laughing at.
That was a surreal echo at the very start.

Come home from an evening of MtG at friends house, new Friday Nights is out. That's what I call a successful Friday night.
Wait, what happened to the Modern Masters cube they built? Where is the continuity!?!
+Brandon Pack SHHHHH, forget.
I choose to believe that with that much pure unadulterated value floating around, after a single playthrough, every single card was added into a modern deck.
They never built it. They always "intended to".
GeneralBobbyLee They'd already built it when Kathlene called them
Yeah, they started drafting it and Grahm dropped out because Storm Crow was too op.
Listen really closely 0:10, you can hear James' cue. I have watched this video over a dozen times and never heard it.
An insparation to artists and magic players everywhere. Even in 2021.

Got me into MTG! THANK YOU LRR
Haha, 1:22 man, I miss Matt being in episodes... Also I miss episodes....
But... Wandering Tombshell did not even exist when they made the strictly worse cube back in November 2013. How did it end up in there?
What happened to Matt? Did he really just appeared to say "I'm still alive!" and then just dissapeared @.@?
I wish somewhen my little buddy Skithiryx will find a place in my deck.
Cameron sounds hillarious in this BBC-like approach.
Also, Zephyr Spirit, lol.
2018 and I'm still waiting for them to play this Cube.
OMG MATT IS BACK!!!
Chronoloco and he's gone
Is it weird that I enjoy working on my cube more than I enjoy playing it?

Kyle Lacoste I like building decks that I think will be fun, that I can only play once, because my friends ban me from using them. :c
.Blaze. it really sounds just like a normal draft
no. I like building decks a little more than I like playing the game. That's why I play limited.
Creatures you control with beard counters have intimidate.
Hell yes! Paul is definitely the best artifact creature
The greatest feeling in magic is taking 10 minutes to resolve a scrambleverse in a 6 player game and then casting warp world undoing everything.

Everyone likes getting new things! :D
IceMetalPunk I had a EDH game once, where the red player warp world the board after 4 hours of gameplay. The total time count was about 7.5 hours -.-
IceMetalPunk warp world and scrambleverse in my controlled chaos EDH deck, that and possibility storm. They make the game fun.

I honestly want to use the new Alex and Paul cards from this opening. the Paul one seems legitimately playable.
I just found a skittles in my vintage infect deck, which I never bought. Damn you graham!
Dat Theros block of pack boxes...so much value, so many gods
This was a really funny one! Keep it up y'all :D
Having to sub to MTG's channel just to watch Friday Nights?
Couldn't put it any better than Graham did at 10:30
Ahh this video makes me nostalgic cuz I started magic when it came out :3 oh how time has changed
This is my favourite one.. Especially like the gatherer joke. Something that isn't blue or black
The stinger is what Graham gets for sleeping next to Creepy Doll.
I've missed these
I wish James would entertain ME... *sigh*
Mmm, you want 'entertainment' mm yes...
The highlight of my month. If you ever want to kickstart a weekly, episodic series for this, I will be backer #1.
I know I’m 5 years late watching these videos but what is “the moonbase”, is it someone’s place of business that everyone hangs out at, or is it like a group rented space that is the designated hangout spot?
3 years late, but the Moonbase is the nickname they give their current place of business. I believe this was Moonbase Mark III or IV at the time.
I keep my Cube in that exact same box. Weird. :/
Jeph Lewis They stole your cube, man.
TheCaliger It explains all the Skittles.
"Hey! Skithiryx!"
What the hell is alex testing? 2:09
Clifftop Retreat, Rabblemaster, Battlefield Forge, Bolt, Ire Shaman(?), Plateau???
HulbeH Probably his Mardu Midrange Highlander deck.
10:36 Why is Graham complaining? He has a storm crow in his pool!
Is the opening scene a reference to Jazz getting thrown out of the Banks' front door from Fresh Prince? If so *applause*
My favorite post-credit scene ever!
Scrambleverse in a 6 player commander game ;D!!! Then all you have to do is fork it while fork is on your isochron scepter! ^w^
Was that a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reference at 1:27 with throwing Matt out of the Moonbase?
Awww... Skittles is so cute!
At least that pack in the end had storm crow.😂
Actually, even without even further Infect support, I think poor Skittles could make a decent addition to a Cube.
Shuddering at the habs jersey in the background, bruins for life
I don't know what Gram was yelling about, he pulled Storm Crow. Must be the lack of challenge
You guys should REALLY build your own set! With all new cards! Like fleas and flea bath! I would buy it!

1:27 Is that a Fresh Primce of Bel Air reference?
I guess Matt missed his reprint in the opening credits. Lucky for him, the new rotation system should make things easier for his next go around.
Why is storm crow in the Strictly Worse cube? That card is OP!!!!
Wait, why is Storm Crow in Strictly Worse Cube? I thought it was the most busted card in MTG??
Schrödinger’s Power 10, Storm Crow is both the tenth piece of the power 9 and a regular common until observed in your sealed pool.

There needs to be an episode where they are forced to draft Strictly Worse, even if it's a kind of season finale.
I want to draft it with my friends.... I have no soul

Nice Fresh Prince reference, guys!
Cam stole it for me. It was nice to have matt back.
But I still want to play the evil cube.
On the subject of cube, cracking a box if conspiracy as a starting point for a cube: y/n?
