In a high-density urban precinct of New Delhi, the project, a small 1000 sq.ft plot, is nestled among similar-sized plotted residences.
With a context defined by haphazard organic development and bare design intent, The House in 1970 introduces architecture to a context that is predominantly builder-driven. It attempts to focus on the luxury afforded by spaces rather than materials.
A dual family home, the house is split into 2 similarly designed duplexes to cater to both families.
Architects in-charge Abhishek Saxena and Madhav Maini explain the process of designing each duplex while responding to the immediate context.

Amazing.. Blown away with the design ideas for such a small space. Still can't believe it in Delhi, where literally one house is on top of the other. The space looks huge and easily accessible to all those who live within.

Fantastic job! People coming here talking about bird pooping through jaali and how the privacy looks at night ( it's all okay, whatever you design people will always criticize and feel they can design better! It's the profession itself which makes us feel that way, more competitive and doubtful ).
The size I mean the width is really challenging. And they managed really well to make space looks and feel sufficient breathable!! Each and every room is so breathable and sufficient natural light that you won't feel trapped despite the small plot size.
Also who all are talking about the poop the jalis are covered with UPVC sliding doors and windows.
And as he said, the luxury is define through the spaces and but the material is so right! This is the real job of architects to design not through only material but with spaces itself! You guys have done a great job and may this project gives you enough recognition for your future hold in market. All the luck👍🏼

A small house in a congested crowded neighbourhood is always a challenge. The architect/ builders have acquitted themselves quite well. Beautiful interiors and actually they look surprisingly spacious. The wood and the cane and the plants inside the home add the beauty element. The brick facade, though not very beautiful is a brilliant idea to let in sunlight and aeration. I guess this brilliant idea saved the building. Very sharp intelligent and young architects. Congrats to the whole team. The end product is beautiful and classy. Do they build in other parts of India or are they only for delhi customers? What was the final price tag including all interiors, furniture and construction all together?
