The other thing no one is talking about, you can not use a dual monoscopic camera rig, and make them a stereo sync clip in Final Cut 11. I’d like to use two FX3’s and a “3D Air by PDmovie” but sadly FCP doesn’t have this
Line up the two angles side by side, create a full-side-by-side clip, then head to the Inspector's Info tab (metadata) and look for the Stereoscopic Conform setting. Choose "Side by Side" to treat it as Spatial. If you have any SBS clips, FCP will work with them without further processing, you just need to tag them first.
@lianAnderson @hughhou Is there a similar function in Resolve? I don't know how to edit side-by-side clips as stereo in Resolve, it seems to demand separate left/right clips.
Wow, this was cool. I am happy to be still in a better position with my DaVinci Resolve Studio than with Final Cut Pro event that it makes things easier. Looking forward to next video.
Yes in a way. More to come. I am working on that tutorial with FCP. But the LA Fire and the craziness here haul all our production. I hope the fire is handle soon so we can back to normal production scheulde and pump out those VERY necessary tutorials to cover all that.
If you want full control over your MV-HEVC bitrate and file size… *_use Compressor_* ? Make any preset with any bitrate etc. that you like for use in Final Cut Pro. Done.
Yes I did not cover compressor or motion here, try it keep it simple, just software to software comparison. But great idea I should cover compressor and motion next :) Compressor also support Spatial Video and even immersive 180 for anyone who wondering
@@hughhou Well, you wouldn't have to have necessarily *_shown_* Compressor, just mention it since you point to Resolve being "better" in that respect, which it actually isn't. Using Compressor for output (or making the needed preset for FCP) is in fact much more powerful than anything that Resolve has to offer. Just sayin'. And Motion doesn't do anything related to spatial video (yet) btw, so there's little point in going into it in this context. Great video btw. Somew very nice information scattered throughout that even I hadn't thought of. ;)
Thanks a bunch for that awesome video explaining the differences between the two software packages. I totally get that Resolve has more features, but it’s a bit of a pain to use like Premiere. FCP 11 is exactly what I need - it’s super easy to use and way faster. By the way, I’ve got all three software packages on my computer.
Great tips! Thank you so much. I tried to edit your raw VR 180 Canon r7 material you shared in the link in another video. But Final Cut Pro 11 seems to only work with spatial videos and not VR 180 SBS material is that correct?
@@hughhou This is also my question. Until now FCP can only handle VR360 videos. So VR180 clips (I use a Vuze XR) have to be converted to 360° with Goole VR Creater. Which must be converted back to VR180 after production with Goole VR Creater. But maybe that will change in the future. Yesterday the sale of the Blackmagic URSA 8K Cine Immersive was announced.
@@hughhou Previous camera lenses similar in appearence to the spatial lens on the R7 had major issues recording in low light like indoor scenes. Does this new spatial lens also have those same issues? How sharp is the image quality compared to Iphone 16 pro. Can we at least expect a crisp 1080p image? How far is the depth recorded when compared to Qoocam Ego and iPhone 15/16?
I have a sony alpha 6700, do you know If I got a sony alpha 6600, can I stick them both together and then stich the footage in post?, or do I need the same camera, lens and everything the same.
Which version of DaVinci Resolve 19.1 are you using? The free or PRO? In the free version I can edit all spatial videos. Only when I save the project and open it again, I get a message that I should buy the Pro version? I'm actually more of an FCP user :-)
Meta Quest Spatial Video is the same as Vision Pro. But if you mean Meta Quest VR180 - then Final Cut Pro 11 currently still can not do VR180. So your best options for now still DaVinci Resolve
Can you explain why black bars are bad? Because I know they are used in 3D movies to create a floating window and trick the eye into thinking the screen is at a different depth.

I am getting the system soon and I will figure this out for the community! Hold tight!

Been waiting for this comparison video!!! Thank you!!
You’re welcome! Just in time for the holiday lol.

Great to hear!
Excellent video, Hugh! Thanks so much for creating and sharing this with the world. I learned so much! Thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool! I hope more vr videos will shows up because of this tutorial =) Thank you!
Def need more sharing power so people even aware there is a tutorial for it lol. TH-cam seem to surpass my content to my own viewers lately :(
Hi Hugh, I'd like to know if Final Cut Pro 11 can process Canon R7 dual fisheye files.
Many thanks in advance.

Does the ND filter add motion blur shooting in Spatial Video? Thanks
Yes it does. But tasteful motion blur - you can use a lower ND to control the blur amount
@@hughhou thanks so much 🙏🏼 I’ll order one now 👍🏼

Wow nice! I have the same feeling as well. FCP is fast - like very fast on a good Mac
Excellet tuorial Hugh. Can we export from 180 VR SBS equirectangualr directly to spatial with Davinci Resolve?
That is coming up :) I am just getting my feet wet with FCP - and honestly, I am so new to the workflow as a Resolve and Mistika guy lol
@@hughhouthanks. ❤I think you have a lot of videos in postproduction. 💪
Does Final Cut offer more compression options if you also have Compressor?
Yes you can use Compressor or send it to Compressor - then you have more options.

Why not premier?
I have Premiere tutorials already so cover the rest here :) Premiere does not support Spatial Video yet but it’s coming as well.
Is there a way to connect the XREAL Air 2Pro to DaVinci Resolve and use it as a preview monitor in 3D?
Someone actually did it. Let me find out how - I do not have XREAL so I can't really test lol
Im really looking forward to your spatial lens video.
Give me a list of things you want me to find out and answer, I will do more research on it!

You need exact same camera and exact same lens and ideally the camera can be genlock with cable sync or timecode sync at least
@@hughhou can you elaborate a bit on the "timecodesync" ?
That's exactly how I do it :-) The only thing missing now is the implementation of Apple Immersive Video (VR180) in FCP 11
That is coming next :)
@@hughhou Native? Or the workaround with Google VR180 Creator?
what do you mean by inmersive video? vr180?
@@alonsogarrote8898 This is the Apple syntax for 180° or 360° videos. Spatial is a video with a 60° - 90° view in 3D (iPhone 16, AVP)

I use the Pro as the 3D Alignment tool is only available for Pro user and I need it to get prefect 3D.

Oh black bar just bad for “Vision Pro” not really 3D. Sorry I was not clear there.
Isn't it that when you use Compressor you can adjust the bitrate and compression ratio? #FCPX
Exactly. I just skip the compressor part as it complex thing 😅
Is it only me or does it look like he's wearing the Apple vision too high up on his face
Lol, I have a werid face - Apple tell me to wear it like that I just follow the AVP instruction :)
