@Genn Jeets I have a 3 bedroom I'm only paying $663 for in The Bronx. Granted...it's in the projects, but I know folk pay upwards of $3k in the PJ'S. So how is my rent so low? My grandma was one of the 1st tenants of Morris Houses when it opened in 1956...3 years before she had my mom. As one of the original tenants, the lease is grandfathered...and so long as there's a blood decendant of my grandma on it, NYCHA can't do shit to increase the rent. Believe me, they've tried. Last time was in 2018. They tried to take me to court sighting I'm a single man living in a 3 bedroom, and they wanted to transfer me to a single room apartment and rent mine to a large family. (Or some single mom with 5 kids from 4 dudes.) NYCHA made this whole presentation using my finances to try and show I could pay 5x what the rent is and still be "ok". All I did was hand the judge the lease and lease agreement, which I keep sealed air tight because it's the exact same document my grandma signed over half a century ago. He looked at it and after 40 or so seconds mulling over the document, threw out the case. The document is legally binding and has no due or ending date. Only when or if a decendant willing removes their name off of the lease, or breaks any term of the lease can NYCHA seize it. So they're fucked. My daughter who is 21 and about to graduate college lives with her BF is Brooklyn, but when I eventually leave NYC for good in 3 years...I'm signing the lease over to her so they can have a 3 bedroom to raise their future family in.

The contractors are going to charge me X amount, and that's 3-4 months rent, I'll give you that time to use the address to get a job, then you can start paying me from there. But I remembered why that doesn't come to mind for some people, the landlord will have to pay the bank, and banks don't play with their money, in fact its probably the banks place. Or the landlord would show kindness only for the homeless guy to turn it into a drug den. The world is cold.

Back in the day...I went with my friends to her bf's house. They showed me a closet with stairs. I was like WTF why are there stairs in the closet. So my dumb self goes to investigate. At the top was this tiny Coraline sized door. I opened it and there was another apartment. I was about to investigate further, then I noticed the tv was on and money on the counter. I realized it was one of those houses with an upstairs apartment so I was like nope not gonna get murdered. However when we went to the entryway or outside there was no other door. I still want to know where the door is I wonder if it was through a bedroom and grandma was renting it out.
It's probably a old party house makes absolute sense for why they would cut a hole in the wall to the next room , emergency exit being able to access another room heaps of people do this stuff

Maybe somebody is a creeper. Hopefully not the current landlord. There were lights over the opening on the mystery apartment, and it contained that rather current looking bottle. I would have poked through the trashbag in case there was any identifying papers such as bills or junk mail. I would have looked for the alternate exit, to figure out where creeper was entering and exiting, and put something in the window to mark the apartment from the outside. I would make an observation of the apartment numbers, to see if one of the numbers has been skipped, then google it to see if any other information pops up regarding the address. Call the police before the landlord, and show them the video. Somebody installed the mirror and lights within the last 30 years judging by the wiring. They could have easily boarded it over from the other side even if they meant ot close off the apartment, but instead, they made it removable. This would have been noticed any time the bathroom were painted. This is not an old mystery, it is probably a crime in progress.
Same thing in Baltimore apartment. Slumlords hired anyone to take out some of old damaged stuff, sweep strash under rugs. Put paint and tools in bathroom closet. They painted the tub with ceiling paint. They tore out rusted medication cabinet, damaged wall and just put a big expensive mirror over it
I have that problem in my house with feeling cold air, so I caulked up every space I thought needed it so now I see new cracks where the ceiling and wall meets, in almost every room in my house. No room behind mirror, but something is not right with my house.

At the top was this tiny Coraline sized door. I opened it and there was another apartment. I was about to investigate further, then I noticed the tv was on and money on the counter. I realized it was one of those houses with an upstairs apartment so I was like nope not gonna get murdered. However when we went to the entryway or outside there was no other door. I still want to know where the door is I wonder if it was through a bedroom and grandma was renting it out.
It's probably a old party house makes absolute sense for why they would cut a hole in the wall to the next room , emergency exit being able to access another room heaps of people do this stuff

Maybe somebody is a creeper. Hopefully not the current landlord. There were lights over the opening on the mystery apartment, and it contained that rather current looking bottle. I would have poked through the trashbag in case there was any identifying papers such as bills or junk mail. I would have looked for the alternate exit, to figure out where creeper was entering and exiting, and put something in the window to mark the apartment from the outside. I would make an observation of the apartment numbers, to see if one of the numbers has been skipped, then google it to see if any other information pops up regarding the address. Call the police before the landlord, and show them the video. Somebody installed the mirror and lights within the last 30 years judging by the wiring. They could have easily boarded it over from the other side even if they meant ot close off the apartment, but instead, they made it removable. This would have been noticed any time the bathroom were painted. This is not an old mystery, it is probably a crime in progress.

Same thing in Baltimore apartment. Slumlords hired anyone to take out some of old damaged stuff, sweep strash under rugs. Put paint and tools in bathroom closet. They painted the tub with ceiling paint. They tore out rusted medication cabinet, damaged wall and just put a big expensive mirror over it

It’s a way for them to access your plumbing and electrical without entering your apartment most older nyc apartments are like this a woman actually was killed by intruders in like the 70s or 80s by someone gaining access to her apartment through her bathroom mirror she called the cops no one believed her because she was known as the crazy lady
