Massive thanks again to Vallejo for sending us these paints to use and review for the channel and we look forward to seeing more use of them on Phil's Kharadron overlords and other miniatures in the future :)

hello phil, i wasn't even aware of these paints, Vallejo is fairly common in big cities in the U.S. (i have to drive to pittsbugh or columbus to buy them in person), but otherwise are difficult to find (outside the internet), all the vallejo air paints are excellent whether you're running them through an airbrush or painting them on with a brush (imo) and these seem no different, can't wait to pick some up and give them a go, thanks for putting this out there.
@ 5:20 now i'm no expert, i'm only speaking from my own personnel experience, but when i spray gold over a black base (and i've only done it with vallejo, so it may be different with other companies paints) the gold tends to get muted. when looking for a stronger gold (i've found) a coat of steel over the black, then the gold changes it quite a bit. i started painting storm cast, i wanted to do them to resemble the roman legion, steel armor and weapons, red cloth, black or brown leather. once i got the steel on my test model, i wasn't really feeling it, so i sprayed him gold. i had another test model i primed black and sprayed gold and those 2 models looked completely different, though i used the same gold. in most cases undercoats do effect hues, but for whatever reason it seems to have a much more dramatic effect when using gold and i'm thinking maybe that's what we are seeing here. if you were to spray the gold onto the first spoon, it may be closer to the gold you were expecting, though i can't be sure, i haven't experimented with these paints yet.

Thanks Phil, very useful. I've always had an idea to do a FW lightning or maybe thunderbolt in chrome, as seen on late war U.S. bombers and fighters. This could be the way to go.
    Cheers :)

Excellent review. I tried these paints and could not get them to spray consistently at all. It sprayed either too heavy or too light. Could not get them to work. After viewing your video I’m going to give it another try.

Yo any chance you compared any of these to leadbelcher? I love their consistency for paintbrush use too but they spray way nicer than citadel. Gunmetal, steel, and magnesium I know are too dark.

For bright steelish painting I'm using Gunmetal Grey -> Dark Aluminium -> Aluminium. I paint the whole model/part with Gunmetal Grey then Dark Aluminium from 45 degrees and Aluminium form above. Regarding Glod paints - Alclad 2, there is no other option.

Great video. I am looking for a metallic finish for a sword that I am 3d printing. I will use a black primer (Vallejo acrylic poliuretane primer). Should I use any kind of clear gloss paint after the vallejo primer and before the metallic ink? Thanks. After viewing this video I think dark aluminium would be great to my sword (THRANDOUIL SWORD from THE HOBBIT).

Critter Hitters, they do recommend and indeed supply a gloss coat for the base to give a shiny finish. I think you could go Either way gloss black or gloss coat over black primer
