If you read the translated lyrics, the theme of obsessive (even potentially self-destructive) devotion and love is pretty heavy. I think your takes are valid but I my ranking is different. In fairness, my ranking is based on the full version of the songs not just the part used for the Op and Ed. Season 2 was really decisive for me since it has my least favorite Op but my favorite Ed. Season 4 is my favorite Op and second favorite Ed so it really did just get overall better as it continued.
If you liked the progression of this openings i'm telling you you're gonna love Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans openings (4 openings) also recommend it to watch it, no need previous knowledge on the other gundam series.
That’s the nice thing about the alternative Gundam universes-they make great entry points into the series since you don’t have to watch all of the preexisting main UC timeline titles to get them.
Overlord is fantastic, the anime and the jams. Gotta suggest, if you are gonna do OP/ED reactions, I think you gotta do Sword Art Online. There's like 8-10, depending on the playlist you use. One playlist cuts an IMPORTANT one, i think #6 or 7 called Mother's Rosario, and another playlist adds in one or two from SAO video games, which are badass, but not part of the anime. If you ever do that reaction, best to make sure Mother's Rosario comes after Caliber. MR is one of the most sacred OPs of the series for diehard fans. Also, I think you'd love the songs. A few are LiSA, THE anime female singer. She has done so many OPs, like Demon Slayer, for one of the most loved.

It's interesting that you said the second one had a certain aggression to it because to me my favorite is the third, not just because it sounds sonically better to me but I also thought it was the most aggressive for the context of the show especially. I can see what you mean though, the second kind of reminds me of sonic cartoon openings "go go go" type of energy, Good take. I will say though opening 4 might be like......the best one if I was to try to argue objectively because it's actually more of a song than a theme like the others. Vocally its probably the best (the yodeling is crazy ngl), the use and blend of the instruments are actually perfect. I used to think opening 4 was the worst but it jumped up to #2 on my personal scale as I kept hearing it and now I'm convinced it should prob be #1 objectively even though I like op 3 more
nice an honest Reaction, Overlord is hardly not likeable, but also, you would enjoy the Openings like Demon Slayer or some older Classics like Neon Genesis Evangelion. Normally, the Openings are the Hype, fast beat songs and the Endings the calm and collected ones. btw, the Endcards for Openings and Endings (on something like Chrunchyroll) does repeat a little section of the song to have background music when showing the endcard of TH-cam 13:27
Opening's are generally more hype, while endings are more sombre. Sometimes shows, or seasons in shows to a 180 on that, or throw that pattern out the window entirely. Kiba & Break Blade for example have more soothing opening's with more energetic endings. Neither of those are great anime, but they are ok. Princess Resurrection, and Code Geas go hard with endings, mostly due to the artists style, while the openings are still upbeat. I really feel like Overlord with it's opening's and general flow of the anime, really shouldn't have the more sombre or soothing endings as they feel out of place. But that's just me.

Animation might have declined since the first season, but the actual art and music of Overlord is still some of the crispest I've seen. Youjo Senki has some amazing art as well, though.
I reccomend the novels before you watch the anime! Its more of a thinking anime more than an action anime. Some people dont undertand that and think its just trying to copy one punch but its really more of a character focused series. Everyone has their own story that entertwines and ends with ainz
Overlord is pretty good, but be prepared to have a sinking feeling in your stomach. It really represents well what it's like to root for the villain

In my opinion, all overlord openings are of equal quality, so sometimes when I re listen, my favorite opening can change
The only one I personally don't enjoy is OP 1 I feel it just does not fit the vibe of the show very well.
