I will never forget the release of Pirates. It was on my birthday and my parents let me stay home from school that day I remember seeing the map outside nautilus being packed and being confused until someone explained to me what was going on. I had no idea a new class was being released and I could hardly wrap my brain around it but it really made the day that much more special
I never played pirate but I always thought they were so obscure and cool whenever I saw them around maple. High level pirates were rare so it was always inspiring.
love these documentaries. i grew up playing os maplestory as a little kid and your videos not only educate me on things i was too young to understand but also fill me with nostalgia of simpler times. keep up the amazing content ❤️
38:27 Actually! In modern maplestory there is the glass marble that you get from a showa achievement. You can only get 1 stack of them, but they are best in slot, having 25 ATT instead of 22 ATT. It can only be claimed once, so if you for example claimed them on the wrong character, you are done... Awesome video btw! I have been waiting for this one for a long time and am excited for the future bandit video!! Keep it up good sir o7
Interesting corsair video. One thing that people have found out from players corsairs on private servers when comparing corsairs to nightlords is that its not really the party buff that matters when comparing their DPS. What matters more is the how the specific boss you are fighting works. For example in a scenario like headless horseman or bigfoot where the corsair can freefire attack without getting hit back much, the corsair beats the NL in all scenarios (even the one with only SE). But the corsair usually loses whenever the boss fight gets more stressful with frequent high damage attacks and status conditions. Also, we found that it doesn't actually matter whether you scroll STR or DEX on your gear, so long that in the end your total STR is exactly enough to equip your gear. So the higher level sairs just go for the higher level overalls and scroll for dex instead of going for the lower level ones and scrolling for STR.
that's why an ideal pt for a corsair is 2 shads and 1 SI. Buccs have TL too so you can have freeflow smoke for 4 mins. Useful esp for toad and chaos zakum.
30:44 - this targeting skill shows up in modern GMS, and the mechanic sort of comes back with the many skills that have the descriptor "targets enemies with the highest HP first." the one i can think of most clearly is Adele's "Grave Proclamation" which forces all summoned aether swords, Magic Dispatch, and Shardbreaker to hone in on a single enemy the other instance that (kind of) uses this mark system is Marksman's "marked target" which directs usage of the "Repeating Crossbow Cartridge" to follow a marked target, set up by Snipe or Perfect Shot. It also stays in modern GMS and even has more utility, with the skill drawing the Corsair's summoned ships fire for insane summon DPS.
Love the video! Some added stuff i think that would help people know more about corsair. 2nd job - Wings and Recoil shot can be put into in-game macro and simply hold it, no timing required. 3rd job - Flamethrower and Ice Splitter should be macro-ed together for optimal DPS, some even max ice splitter, then SP reset it to 26 before 4th job. 4th job - you can only summon 1 Wrath of Octopi to my knowledge , if summoned again before the first ends, first will go away. 4th job - you can instantly summon Wrath of Octopi during Boat if you macro Boat , Boat , Octopi. increasing dps overall. 4th job - Corsair is worse with Hyper Body if bosses does 1hp/1mp attack, more HP = more hp damaged to boat. Unfortunately Night Lord is still a better DPS class due to shadow shifter to avoid damage to continuously deal damage while corsair gets bumped around alot with extremely low avoidability.
@@Jakeez09 you can summon as many wrath of octopi as your cooldown allows. you macro octo>boat while onboard to summon octo while dismounting, which skips the octo animation. you cannot do this during cannon animation which is why i just do this manually
I swear as someone whos been playing since 2007 I thought I knew just about everything from OSMS but I finally learned what the glaze/blaze capsules were for, this and the fact that there are hidden capes you can only obtain from Amos' secret vault in APQ blew my mind. Makes me wish I knew more about the game back in the day
There is a higher tier of bullet for Corsair actually! Unfortunately I do not know the release date of the item, but the Glass marble is the strongest bullet available at 25 attack power. This bullet is only available by completing a series of quests from Grako in Showa Town and obtaining the achievement related to her. The biggest hurdle in obtaining this bullet is really just RNG as you have to pray that Grako gives you a special buff to get an achievement to claim it.
I haven't watched the video yet but as a corsair player in Maplelegends, it's not difficult, just tedious to minmax. But in terms of Maplestory, it is the most difficult out of all the easy characters.
Corsair is amazing, but getting through the first 3 job classes was so rough. I had one as my main in a now defunct beloved low-rate private server like 7 years ago, absolute unit.
I clicked on this video 'cause old MS is what I'm most familiar with. What I got was a nice comprehensive guide to a class that I never really knew much about - I never got above level 100, and was as fresh and 'nooby' as they came. Not only that, but you've got some really good taste in music, and you even ended the video with a friggin' Voices of the Void setup? That's intense, yo.
im so glad a channel like this exists to document the beautiful nuances of this game that isn't rly playable in the same way anymore . keep it up !!!!!
This is incredibly well done. Very entertaining, and knowledgeable! Is this going to potentially become a series with all classes? ( checking out previous videos it seems it already is!) Either way, subscribing for sure :D
I definitely have the most nostalgia for this era of old school MS. Pirates had already been in the game when I started playing, but I remember my cousins who I used to watch play and who got me into the game were so excited about a new job coming out. So of course my first character I ever made was a corsair because they thought it was such a cool class!
You forget to add, grinding a captain/cosair will always grant you a slot in CWPQ, one of the end game pq to farm insanely lucrative mesos by selling Mark of Naricain services. Since there are 4 bosses and each of them have a good chance to drop one. Bosses(gives good exp) are perma-pinned which greatly reduces the chance of your battleship being broken and Viper/buccaneers are more popular so chances of having SI in a party is relatively high.
I find old maplestory so fascinating. I started playing the game on and off when i was a kid around the time the demon slayer class came out. But I never played super old maplestory when it first came out. I've tried playing various old school maple servers on and off over the years but it never really clicked for me. But I LOVE hearing about it, it was so interesting and i love this type of video.
Nostalgia with this one. I remember being so excited when priates got released, I really wanted to power through for corsair but I never really had the patience to grind out in Old School maple. Think my highest level character pre-BB was a priest that I literally got to 70 and never touched again.
I made a bucc on release cause the barrage s were sooo fun. But when they changed the skills in the explorer remaster I job changed to sair and main it to this day.
Corsair'ss Bullseye made them more consistent. Before you start you would use a summoning sack. By damaging a mob via flag you would perpetually be attacked by it. The bullseye would mark the boss being hit by the mob allowed invincibility frames. So long as you played far enough so the mob would not die. You'd never have to dismount allowing for 100% damage output.
I remember those days, and the days when 4th job was not released yet. My cousin mained a crusader, and looking back it was painful only using slash blast 😂
Another factor in the NL vs Sair debate that makes it lean more towards NLs is one of interruption: if you are on a boss that hits the whole screen and never stops attacking for any reason (think Zakum or Horntail), then the Sair will constantly be hit, have to dismount Battleship or even lose it and have to settle for Rapidfire. The NL on the other hand, is an avoidability monster with Shadow Shifter on top of it that will continue his Triple Throw spam for minutes on end uninterrupted. However, if the boss in question does not have an attack that will hit the whole screen and stops attacking for, in example, being constantly knocked back (think something like Headless Horseman or Anego) then both classes will be able to hit it uninterrupted, but then the Sair will be able to outdamage the NL.
Sairs were very rare at the high level. I made an ice lightning mage pre bb and never came across that many sairs and wondered why. I made one post bb and found out why lol. To this day, I always thought how resilient those sairs players were
In some of your training clips, your cursor is placed right in the middle of the screen. I found myself moving my mouse trying to get it out of the way 😂
I remember seeing the first level 200 pirate when they first came out on my server back then and was like dam how do you like the class? He said he don't know, he leached all the way to 200 in skele with his bishop 😂😂😂😂😂
Worth mentioning damage calculations, I believe with a STR build Air Strike had unstable but higher potential damage than mage ultimates iirc I don't know what's wrong with grenade but I think it's damage calculation might've been similar since the 140% seemed to do like 1/3 of invisible shot's 170% damage when I used it. Also worth noting even if there's no damage it was a nice mob aggro tool and if built for damage could be spammed at the lowest charge dropping it off a ledge to farm at absurd vertical ranges.
i have a fainth memory of seeing a super old "trailer of pirates before they got released and i remember seeing their skills and they had one where they made a copy of themselves... maybe this is why the job advancment npc at 3rd job makes a copy out of herself? becuase they allways use skills that u get at 3rd job but this skill dosent exist?
i can say i struggled my head off all the way to 120(my first to get there) because of the inability to shoot things because they was to close to shoot. so i had to go to so many obscure maps just to level. because it was dex i was able to go to higher lvl areas early like raiders and chill there till about 90 and then i think i was at newts till 120. omg it was a grind but as soon as i got to 120 they updated it so you could shoot at any distance making grinding to 120 a breeze and there was corsairs all over the place after that....i was gutted but at least i can say i did it the old way XD
Does anyone remember when NLC came out and they had these new bomb mobs that would infinitely clone themselves. They would die to one hit no matter the damage. Good times.
