I love Shrek and "I need a hero" is so unforgatable, but movies with original soundtracks have their own magic nothing can compare to. Unlike OSTs, that are universal, the songs that are written for a specific scene in an animated movie are what makes all forms of verbal arts come together as one, because they are made for one another. It's like a difference between taking poetry and writting music for it (or other way around) and creating music, lyrics AND dance at the same time.
Agreed. What Shrek did musically with their soundtrack was excellent and thematically on point - but come on, gotta give #1 to a movie like Prince of Egypt. (Also not fair that they compared one movie to a franchise with 4 of them, lol.)

"The Prince Of Egypt" in my own opinion has got one of the best soundtracks thanks to Stephen Schwartz, and I have always been listening to that soundtrack every years.

Forbidden Friendship will forever be one of the greatest pieces of music in animation history. The fact this music goes with a scene where there's literally no dialogue speaks to how amazing it is and how John Powell is able to bring it to life. 😊😊🥰🥰🥰
Shreks version of living the vida loca was the best thing and knowing puss a and donkey make a good duo makes the song a classic.
As much as I like Shrek 2 and those characters, I didn’t care much for that song.
Appreciate Spirit being nominated but that was at least top 5.
Personally, I think Spirit should've had a place on the list instead of being honorable mentioned. I go back to the soundtrack time and time again. It holds a very special place in my heart

I love the Prince of Egypt's soundtrack, my favorite song is "When You Believe" and the "The Plagues." Both are heavy hitters.
I remember learning somewhere years ago that “All Star” was only meant to be temporary, but the Shrek creators grew to like it so much that they kept it in and asked Smash Mouth to perform “I’m a Believer” for the ending.

Spirit as only an honorable mention? CRIMINAL! Spirit is top 5 easily and for that matter so is the How to Train Your Dragon franchise
Of course DreamWorks films have amazing soundtracks! because other than making amazing movies another thing DreamWorks is known for is making stupendous soundtracks for those movies hell their movie soundtracks rival that of Disney.

Kung Fu Panda and HTTYD have some of the best original soundtracks ever made, it pains me to see them ranked so low when they're epic. I love Shark Tale's soundtrack as well, Get It Together, Secret Love, Car Wash... those were all great, and there were more too.
By the way, listening to Sticks and Stones by Jònsi makes me want to cry. I get chocked up because I vividly remember me, as a teen and alone in a school I hated (it was mutual), downloading the music video on my non-smartphone device, and wishing I could live an adventure like that, wishing I could have a friend like Toothless or Hiccup. Those were harsh days, and Sticks and Stones comforted me. I'm thankful to those who made this trilogy possible.

But it seems that this ranking is biased for soundtracks with vocal singing and not epic and emotional orchestral music. Which is a shame. Orchestras make you feel, songs tell you what to feel.
@@cloudrider7386 ikr? I personally prefer powerful instrumental tracks, that are really remarkable. Kung Fu Panda and HTTYD had amazing scores that were perfectly referenced in later movies, connecting everything in a more grandious way. I do like Shark Tale's soundtrack for the pop hits that I love, but it doesn't have the flair the previous two have, you can't listen to a few notes and just go "that's Shark Tale! That's it!".

The Bad Guys - Songs like Stop, Drop, Roll, Good Tonight and Brand New Day are the best parts of the movie soundtrack.

My god, Dreamworks Animation Studio and Hans Zimmer is a deep love story.
Oh god, i almost forgot about "i like to move it, move it". It was EVERYWHERE, it was the "baby shark" and "let it go" of mid 2000th. There was NO escape.

I KNOW YOU DID NOT PUT FLUSHED AWAY AND TURBO ON THIS LIST AND SPIRIT GETTING AN HONORABLE MENTION? I’m tired of ya’ll sleeping on this movie! 😭 Hans Zimmer and Bryan Adams worked their asses off.
Side note: Prince of Egypt has one of the most beautiful scores of any movie (along with Hunchback of Notre Dame by Disney). I’m not religious but I enjoy every second of that movie.

In all honesty, I thought The Prince of Egypt was going to be number one considering the songs were written by Broadway legend Stephen Schwartz and composed by Academy Award winner and Hollywood Walk of Fame star winner Hans Zimmer. Plus the song “When You Believe” won an Academy Award for Best Original Song and has been rerecorded by numerous artists and bands (which is actually how I was introduced to the song AND the film in the first place) throughout the years
We can add that they are not licensed songs. They were made specifically for the movie.
Flushed away was such a good movie. It always made me laugh it was such an underrated movie
The fact that Shrek, Prince of Egypt, Spirit, Road to El Dorado and How to Train Your Dragon are not the top 5 (not in order) is a crime! 🙈

Although only the final installment is a film, _Tales of Arcadia_ has easily the best score in a DreamWorks project!!!
I think Shrek has the best soundtrack of any DreamWorks movie. The way DreamWorks utilised Hallelujah would have Leonard Cohen smiling down from heaven above.

Everyone knows that the song carwash is from the 70s, I assume. But ever since I watched Shark Tale…I can only remember sea turtles waxing whales.
While I’m glad Spirit was at least somewhat on the list, it DOES NOT belong in the mentions! For the past twenty years, ever since I saw that film in theaters at the age of only ten, that film’s soundtrack has NEVER FAILED to give me the chills or bring both sad AND happy tears to my eyes nor make me feel like I’m soaring with the eagle above the mountains in the beginning. This film, and apparently the soundtrack too, are just so criminally underrated it makes me want to scream!!!
Gotta say, Turbo had the best soundtrack!

I admit though I got worried for a moment that it wouldn't make it or else I would have complained! Lol
Though in my opinion it should have gotten number one for it is my favorite DreamWorks movie of all time! EEP! :)
Fun fact, I actually knew All Star as a little kid in the 90's way before the first Shrek movie even came out.
I have all kinds of memories of listening to that song and loving that song so much from my parents' own Smash Mouth album that had the song and on the radio in the car or at home.
So when I saw Shrek in theaters when I was seven in 2000 with my Girl Scout troop for the first time and that song played as an opening number for Shrek I got so excited to see it involved in the movie.
Now when I listen to it I always think about Shrek but I still also have those fond memories of it before Shrek came along so it's fun to tell people whom mainly remember it from Shrek that I actually knew it before Shrek so well! XD
A little annoyed how Over the hedge didn’t even get mentioned and all spirit got was an honorable mention. I love those movies and their sound track.
Me personally I think Shark Tale takes the cake for this list cause it screams early 2000’s & I love that about it

I would included Joseph King of Dreams as one of DreamWorks's memorable soundtracks too. Sure, it's no Hans Zimmer's score in Prince of Egypt, but it is a beautiful score on it's own, and it does capture both the Biblical culture and the film's heartfelt tone in a very intimate way.

There's no doubt the Shrek franchise has the best soundtracks in Dreamworks with their famous songs we all know and love. It was a tough choice for the remaining spots between Kung Fu Panda, how to train your Dragon, flushed away and Madagascar with interesting music from different countries and songs from artists into their soundtracks, but in the end, it was Kung Fu Panda and How to train your Dragon because they sounded more incredible than the others and it was something different.
Is no one going to talk about how they picked Flushed Away over Chicken Run?
Chicken Run's soundtrack is incredible. Kazoo's have never sounded so epic.

Sooo many amazing 90s songs can be amazing for Disney animated, fantasy movies and even more, that's why I love the 90s a lot, definitely when it comes to European 90s songs as well, they can help movies ratings
Spirit as an honorable mention is criminal
Personally for me Shrek 2 of course is number because and “Holding out for a hero” and also “Accidentally in love”. But for me the potion factory escape scene I could hundreds of times over. The song makes the mood of the edge of your seat.
No doubt Trolls 3's music will also be 🔥

If the thumbnail wasn't a big hint, then it's certain that "Shrek" will nab the top spot. The soundtrack for that movie is sublime, with Smash Mouth, The Proclaimers and Joan Jett, just to name a few.
YASS FLUSHED AWAY. My mom at the time was a dance teacher, and made a choreography for Proud Mary because of this movie.

My all time favourite DreamWorks song is "It Takes Two" from the new trolls movie.
The Prince of Egypt and The Road to El Dorado those films what I watched and enjoyed when I was young. Those had amazing songs I liked "Heavens Eyes" from the Prince of Egypt, "The Trail We Blaze" It's Tough to be a God" and "Somewhere out of the Blue" from The Road to El Dorado. Also "I'm a Believer" from Shrek 1 and "Livin la vida loca" from Shrek 2.
I like the songs it needs movies they make me a stand up and dance with the music and while watching the movie
