Great tutorial . I'm not a musician (yet) . I've always been interested in electronic keyboards and synthesizers . After studying and comparing what's on the market , the Yamaha mx series seemed to be the best choice due to high ratings , affordability , and overall versatility . I decided to buy the mx 49 . Over the years I've found that all Yamaha products are high quality and reasonably priced ( from motorcycles to stereo equipment and more ) . This compact synth is awesome ! After struggling to figure out how to use some of the functions , this video explained it and got me off to a good start understanding how to use this little "powerhouse" . THANKS FOR THIS TUTORIAL !
My friend your tutorial was amazing and so well done thank you so much for the time you put into it and teaching us new things I do have a request I would love to be able to have a template when I turn off my piano all the settings of all the instruments that I put on go away when I turn off my keyboard and I have to refine all the instruments so that I can play with the instruments that I like using if you could let me know how to do that. Or do a video it would gratefully appreciate it thank you Noble Cue
I've had my MX88 for a short time. I'm not a fan of the factory performances that came with the keyboard. Is there anyway that I can erase the factory performance presets and use those storage spots for my own performances? thank you.
Hi. I've just done a factory reset after saving my performances to usb. Now every time I start the MX 61 I 'm having to reload my performances form the USB stick. I'm missing a step here- I want my performances to start without having to reload them. Hope you can help, thanks.
Is there any way to delete all the factory Performances to free up the storage areas? I'd prefer to use those memory locations for my own performances.
Is there a way I can store a performance with other sounds ready for me to switch to? For example, I save the performance with a piano sound on part 1 and bass sound on part 2 but then switch part 1 to a brass sound but it already has a certain brass sound selected so I don’t have to set them up each time I perform?
Now that I have my MX back I've been trying to figure out how to use the arpeggios for a guitar part. I can't find anything online that clearly displays this feature and the manual is vague at best. If there's anyone out there that can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
A question please. I usually play Layers with 2 Pianos, on my Yamaha P115 a Piano in normal and the other in octave + 1, in this case if I do it with this keyboard I can not add to these 2 Pianos a string pad for example? thank you
That's what I was going to ask too. However, I've seen it done while hooked up to a P.C. Can it be done within the instrument itself and then stored for live performance? Many thanks! ;O)
You cannot change the factory sounds. You have to load a factory sound, edit it, and save it as a user sound. If you turn the DATA dial all the way past the factory sounds in a category, it will have the user sounds that you created appended to the end of the list.
Yes. All you have to do is press Part Select, select part 1, choose the category, press down, choose the patch, make any adjustments using the knobs then repeat the process for parts 2-16. Once you're happy with the way everything sounds, press 'Store' and select from any of the 128 performance slots and confirm your storage. All you have to do from this point is to make sure that any time you recall this performance, you're in 'Part Select' mode. You'll need to do this everytime manually but other than that, all your sounds and it's settings remain as you last left them.
Now for an update... I finally got my MX back from the "Yamaha" recommended service center. They are Pro AV in San Francisco. After sending numerous emails requesting status on my keyboard all of which went unanswered I was forced to report this poor service to Yamaha. They got involved and I STILL never got any info from Pro AV. Just unacceptable in my book! After two weeks back & forth with a Yamaha rep my MX miraculously showed up at my doorstep! Without any prior notice or information on it or any work done...just nothing! I've never dealt with such an unprofessional outfit in my life...and I'm pretty old! So for the record, the problem with my MX appears to be fixed...so far, but I don't recommend using Pro AV for anything! I'm still waiting for Yamaha to explain how a business with such poor customer service, that is only open three days a week, and only six hours a day can be granted as a recognized service center for Yamaha! I don't get it!
Hello fellow Synth player! I have too been pulling my hair out on this but I have found a solution that may very well interest you. So to turn off the Rhythm Pattern(drum beat) on a certain performance number, you go to the button named “rhythm pattern”. After your in the rhythm pattern menu, scroll all the way down. There you should see something that says “Autokeyonstart = on”. If you desire to turn that off, hit the “dec/no” button” after that hit the “store” button then hit the “enter” button, then hit the “yes” button. Hope this helps!
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem...ew... yesI said the "P" word! For decades I have chosen Yamaha because I rely on the quality and I've never had a problem...Well until I got an MX88. I feel the same way about Tascam. I don't know if it's just me or what but it seems these days everything is being made so cheaply. The tech is there but the hardware has gotten cheaper every decade. ANYWAY... I got my MX88 last June specifically to tackle a project I had planned for a year. Having previously had a few Motif's I'm familiar with what the MX has and for that...no surprises. The action is good, but I also have a P255 and these actions are supposed to be the same, but they are not. It's all about the feel. ANYWAY...right out of the box after getting everything setup to start the project I noticed a crackling noise every time I turned the MX on. Consistently on every power on with first note/chord strike. All on attack of the note. BUT... after a few notes it would subside. Knowing now... I should have immediately returned it, but anxious to get the project going I made the exception since the noise consistently seemed to subside upon playing. It was like it just needed to warm up. Fast forward to project completion. After weeks of practice and many out takes I had a track I was happy with. BUT as I began to listen more carefully readying for mixdown I began to notice there were STILL crackles within the track. Be they ever so subtle... they were there, all on the strike/attack of the note! Because this noise is specific to the strike/attack of the note I was able to work around it by playing a little less aggressively and was eventually able to get a keeper track. However some crackling was still there. I performed a number of tests to ensure it wasn't another piece of equipment or a bad cable and found unanimously my MX has a problem. So yesterday I boxed it up and sent it to the nearest service center and it should be interesting to see what they find. So that said... has anyone else noticed this dilemma?
Thank you so much! I am new MX88 user and your explanation for setting up simple Performances was so much clearer than the manual.
Thanks for your help in setting up a Performance. Much appreciated!
Thank you for the instructional video. It is very clear and easy to understand. Well done!
The greatest video on rhis synth I've seen. This is exactly what I wanted to learn (storing it) I am cannot WAIT to watch the rest of this series.

Exactly what I was looking for thank you so much!
Thanks this is extremely helpful, great job.............
Why is it when I power off and cone back later the changes are gone? Great video
Hello, if I store the performance and after I turn the keyboard off and on it’s gone. How do I keep the performance saved? Thank you
how do I save voices I like to each of the 16 buttons so I can change to them with one click for live
Damn, and I thought I couldn't save my creation on the keyboard, ok now I can plan on buying one

is there a video on how to create a 16 instrument performance
Is there any way to delete all the factory Performances to free up the storage areas? I'd prefer to use those memory locations for my own performances.
Can you do one where you create a beat to go with the top selection? A beat that you create say from drums or conga ...Thank you.

Really wish I could use the sounds in my mpc
I even use the voice insert effect to edit sound in mind and make effects

I thought you had to store the new voice settings before storing the performance?
that's what the manual says
How can I control the volume of part 2 or the layered sound using a foot volume pedal?
Hey Fred did you ever figure this out? I want to leave the volume of the piano on at all times and bring the strings in only with the FC7 pedal.
A question please. I usually play Layers with 2 Pianos, on my Yamaha P115 a Piano in normal and the other in octave + 1, in this case if I do it with this keyboard I can not add to these 2 Pianos a string pad for example? thank you
Ty bro😁❤❤❤
Hello, i am looking for the sound of a Rhodes keyboard. Vintage 74 seems to be o.k :-) Thanks !!!
Thank you
Can you layer 4 sounds at once and have a total control over them like the motif!?
I have mx 49, and it have 16 parts multitembrals
That's what I was going to ask too.
However, I've seen it done while hooked up to a P.C.
Can it be done within the instrument itself and then stored for live performance? Many thanks! ;O)
You can layer 4 sounds, but not have total control over them like the Motif.
The manual says to save edited sounds as a voice and a user voice number. I cannot find anything on the menu that says user voice.
You cannot change the factory sounds. You have to load a factory sound, edit it, and save it as a user sound. If you turn the DATA dial all the way past the factory sounds in a category, it will have the user sounds that you created appended to the end of the list.
Does anyone have ANY in-depth info utilizing the PARTS SELECT and how to save your sounds you choose so you can switch on the fly?
Yes. All you have to do is press Part Select, select part 1, choose the category, press down, choose the patch, make any adjustments using the knobs then repeat the process for parts 2-16. Once you're happy with the way everything sounds, press 'Store' and select from any of the 128 performance slots and confirm your storage. How many voices can be layered on MX
You are not showing what to push to delete the letters already there or how to capitalize the letters???
Yamaha Mx the best
I have the Yamaha MK 49
Bonito🤗
Once a performance is overwritten, can I take back the original one?
No. Not without resetting the keyboard to factory defaults.

YEA BUT WHY DOES IT KEEP STARTING TO PLAY A DRUM BEAT EVERYTIME YOU GO BACK TO A PERFORMANCE?!
