The instrumentation on the original recording was a once in a lifetime lightning in a bottle that can never be replicated. Pure magic.
One of the greatest songs ever written.
Unbelievable rendition, capturing all that needs to be captured. Lack of words...
Absolutely brilliant, sheer magic.
I’m not crying. There was something in my eye
Every time I visit this beautiful song I say "Hello" to Madam George.
Beautiful rendition! Just love it, listened to it many times.
If you are a Van fan this only enhances it!
Less is more. Great cover of a fantastic song. Love Van. Well done, guys,
❤Simply fascinating.. ♬ ❤🎼Beautiful 5⭐performances by all.. ❤Thank you..👍
As good as it gets. Thank God for life.
Great version!
Very nice cover all the way around. The singing and the band!
This is lovely!
Wonderful! ❤🙏
Excelente interpretación de una genial canción de uno de los compositores más grandes de la música contemporanea. Muchas Gracias por grabarla y por compartirla. Saludos desde México.
Wow !!! Fabulous ! You are perfect because it's nobody who can do it so well.
Bravo!
Not many entertainers can do this song justice, great attempt but only Ivan deliver this song in the first person.
No one can do this except Van
Joy Crookes th-cam.com/video/OBVpVLn6N2w/w-d-xo.html
so great
A drag is a road in Irish parlance, the road from Dublin up the Sandy Row ( the name of a street in Belfast)
Excellente interprétation de cette magnifique chanson !!!
Aside from Van himself this is one of the best renditions of this song I have heard.
Thank you so much! We are particularly proud of our whole Astral Weeks tribute show. We hope to perform the whole album again someday.
Bap Kennedy also has a great version.
Agreed. There is a young lady on Oxygen College channel who does a nice job as well.
Phoebe Snow. She only does one verse, but it’s exquisite
I love the cover by joy crookes, just Joy and her guitar.
Sublime! Unreal rendition
Al meer dan zestig jaar in mijn hart
Great rendition,loved it…..
This is great, undoubtedly.
But also check out the version by Joy Crookes that she did for his birthday celebrations. That's also an amazing version
Mirabile interpretazione dell'eccesso brano morrisoniano!!!!!
Eccelso,naturalmente.
Who's the singer? He's spot on.
That's a Chicago based musician by the name of Steve Dawson. We were fortunate to have him join us for this tribute. Steve's own songwriting and the songs he's written for his project Funeral Bonsai Wedding show that he loves that musical space that Van Morrison can take you to.
@@greatmomentsinvinyl209 Thanks. I'll check that out.
to me it's about loss of innocence
i discovered this song Radio Luxembourg 208 meters medium waves at the end of 60ies ....
Hi - I discovered the song when I accompanied it for the first time at a local jam session, Check it out if you like for a different slant on it.....
Very good introduction to that great song , I'd like read the whole text so that I could translate it more easily .
I think he's singing about a lady of the night
Fantasies if you must but van explains himself it was a woman he used to pass on his way to school as a young boy
People try but they can't facsimile what Van has produced, sorry my opinion.
Van has such a powerful voice and that hard Belfast accent,it’s not easily equaled.
A great song's jus' that
Stop splitting hairs waving flags
Close your eyes listen
Effing plebes, please
The satellites will soon crash
Save the libraries
Dominos 'n' drag is what they call Donimos in Belfast.
Madame Joy is Van's mother. This is all bs.
I am so moved I cannot breathe
I could lie down and never wake with this
Van Morrison was 22/23 when he wrote Astral Weeks. Genius!
So was I.......
You are absolutely correct on both counts Pamela. It seems he goes deep into his own imagination when writing and producing powerful memorable songs. I have no doubt that Astral Weeks is a classic for the ages.
Got lucky ,born in Belfast same year as Van and have been a fan since his THEM,days and in the many venues he played in. Still sounds great today.
@@jamesdolan4042 Yes, his songwriting is in a league all its own. I've been listening to him for 50yrs. The last time I saw him live was in Toronto, he had just turned 70. His concert was sold out an hour after announcing that he was coming to Toronto. It was an amazing night. We are so lucky to be alive at the same time that he is.
@@pamelamacneil1331 You're lucky! ☘ 🥰For me, it was Massey Hall in '85 ❤Yet, he's unforgettable! ☘
Very nice cover and introduction to 'Madame George'.
I remember the first time I listened to Astral Weeks. I felt like I was hearing the music that had been in my head my entire life
Excellent rendition.....
It's about his mother. Domino 'n' Drag is what the game of Dominos is called in Belfast.
Nothing else.
You may be right!. He sings it as Madame Joy, not George. Later he changed the titel to madame George, but if you listen to it, he sings it as madame Joy
He's channeling Van, wow
I am completely and utterly enthralled
Incredibly poignant - just lovely
The commentary at the begging is so insightful.
And one of the best expainations of a song meaning, thatnk you Lester Bankes and this band.
Heartbreaker...
#1 VM fan in the Universe,Astral Weeks, especially, and this kid has Nothing to apologize for....he is quite capable...even if he wasn't born when this came out.Kudos.
surprisingly accurate vocals and the backing almost note perfect
I'm joining y'all on my 12string. Thanks Y'all
Lovely version,cool flute.
Great!
Astral Weeks throws a fast ball right down the pike, covers it all, just need my bike, to recover my pressing View, yet Van Morrison true Joy!
Van sings it as Madame Joy, not George. He changed the title to Madame George, but left the original recording as Madame Joy. Listen to it carefully.
Great cover (alongside Marianne Faithful and Energy Orchard)
Brilliant.
