Astral Weeks is a masterpiece, it means more than I can say and is now at 72 etched deep in my dna. Thanks Van!
I am 70 and have loved Van the Man Morrison for well over 50 years ever since he recorded his very first album
Compliment of the season 🎄
I am an African woman and I love Van, people think I am brain washed.. anyone who knows music knows.
oh Dear....dont let what others say effect you negatively ...color or race has nothing to do with being able to appreciate good music...
loving Van's music needs a clear whashed brain ......
(the brains with dirt and dust don't listen properly to his music and poetry !!!!)
❤❤❤❤
🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶
Girl, you got it. Always. It gets into your heart and soul and helps you breathe. 😊
This is a cure for dementia, soaks into the heart and smoothes out heartbreak.❤🇨🇮

This song woke me from a coma, love you brother Morrison
Wow, a nice way to awaken...
I have seen him twice. One of the highlights of my life ! At 72 yrs ive had a few highlights and there is just no one like him.
Glad hes been in my life, all these years !
Amazing what a fat old Irish chappy can do.I bought Gloria in my teens.
When I was 19 I first heard the album "Astral Weeks"... I was alone in a beautiful house built around 1910, the lights were out, a window was open as I sat and watched the warm rain pour down... the music, the voice, the words took me away to somewhere far from where I sat. At 65, it still does the same thing for me... I wander... somewhere... each time I hear this music play...
Frank Abney I’m 62 still same for me!
@@lindagordon9421 I'm 75 and the same for me as well!
Frank Abney because it’s a Irish mystic place of music
Magic of Van Morrison,beautiful.
Frank Abney i have the same recollection when I first heard Astral Weeks. The music still takes me there. This concert is superb.
I just turned 60. When I heard Van for the first time I thought: UPS, what kind of sound is that and at first I didn't get much with it. (I'm from Hamburg in Germany and wasn't very familiar with the English language at the time). But I kept hearing more and more about Van, and that's when I realized what the main characteristic of good music is: It's not the type of music (classical, pop, rock, jazz, etc.), but the fact that it' gets better and better the more you hear it. And there are very few artists where that is true. Van Morrison is one of them, which is probably due to the fact that he constantly varies his songs during live performances. I can only describe his music as magical or hypnotic, it crawls into your head and makes you addicted. Sorry if that was too thick, but that's how I feel.
Great description, so true.
...auch from Hamburg, Alsterdorf
😂
My brother in law Chris Hoogland, may he rest in peace, introduced me to Van when I was 22 years old. Now I am 62 and still love Van the Man
I first heard Astral Weeks 50 yrs ago,it’s as new today, as it was then.
Van’s just in another league.,
That bass. That violin. That melody. That voice.50 years, still the greatest.
yep indeed!
Like a good wine, Getting better with time. A musical genious
@@raulschwerdt The love that loves the love that loves to love the love that loves to love the love that loves ...
That cello...that flute....
The lyrics weave their own poetic magic and worthy of mention but the music is sublime and timeless.
Getting old is tough.
It is so pleasant having great music while doing so.
absolutely
The OLDER you get,the greater chance you have of listening to something you have not heard before try Gregory Alan Isakov or Stick Figure ( a reggae american band ) or The Temper Trap or Low Roar or of Monsters & men !
We were so fortunate to grow up through a time of such amazing creativity in the Arts... 😊 Music, art, fashion, film, theatre..
@@bobdonovan4505 Nice perspective Bob.
getting old is a bitch
I’m 81 & still love it!
I first heard Van Morrison in 1964. He was with a group called THEM. The song was called Here comes the night. It was the first song I heard that I listened to other than The Beatles. That's how good I thought Van was. I just knew both The Beatles and Van would last through my lifetime.
Here comes the night is stellar
Listening on Oct. 7, 2024, a year has passed since the invasion into Israel, and this song is just what I needed today to soothe me, envelope me and hug me. I am sure it's no coincidence it came up in a memory feed today. Van has always had a way of singing to me, touching my soul, from the first time I heard Brown Eyed Girl. Thank you Van. 🙏❤️🙏
Compliment of the season 🎄
I remember lying in bed listening to the radio late at night as a teenager and hearing this for the first time. There is something romantic about hearing great music for the first time like that - on a radio, chosen by someone else in a quiet moment. I did not understand it (still don't) but the beautiful playing over a simple chord sequence, Van's incredible singing and the mysterious and beautiful lyrics made it unforgettable. As others have said, an absolute masterpiece.
Yeah, beautifully put.🙂
🎉
Astral Weeks one of the best albums of all time!
True, oh yes it is
Astral wonderful
Van.tastic !!!!!!!!
❤
My Dad grew up in Sandy Row in Belfast, really pulls at the heart strings every time I listen to this masterpiece. Still, every now and again I’ll walk down Cypress Avenue in east Belfast with my headphones on listening to Cypress Avenue. It’s pretty magical to do so, hasn’t changed that much since Van penned this magical album.
Cyprus.
@@seanhennessy57 it's a type o Sean... but thanks for the spell check. 🙄🙄
I done the same when I visited Belfast, magical listening to this music whilst wandering down Cyprus avenue
What a wonderful thing to be able to do.
Hullo Jothathan I’m a Van the man fan ,I’m not as close to his formable experiences as you . But my g grandfather John Morrison was born in Roscommon and it makes me wonder and I come from Australia
i was on a beach, beautiful day, nobody about, smoking a joint and i put this on - spent the rest of the afternoon just looking at the blue sky above me. wonderful!
Did you need the joint to enjoy it? Try enjoying life without embellishments.
Yes Capt Mac its that kind of song.
Capt Mac. Been there, thanks for reminding me! It still sounds so good!
Keep one for the friends
NOW that is EXCELLENT sound . . . and an EXCELLENT voice . . . aging EXCELLENTLY well !! Aren't we lucky?!?!?
" Madame George " Shrouded in secrecy, wearing a veiled periwinkle feather fascinator, she wore a violet satin gown, a lavendar mohair shawl draping her ivory shoulders, pastel pink chantilly lace gloves adorned her lily white hands, purple peau de soie kitten heeled pumps framed her dainty feet, and she held a matching parasol shading her head from the afternoon sun. A Celtic vision of loveliness for a lad to serenade, his true love smiling to delight as her silken auburn hair flew wildly in the highland wind. A double rainbow of love peeked out from the clouds as she vanished into the horizon.Truly a cherished masterpiece of "Astral Weeks".Thank you Mr. Van Morrison !
Listening to Van is like having your mind and heart opened, the cobwebs blown out and you’re left with nothing other than appreciation…..magical 🙏
You are very smart, intelligent and gave great insight and you are completely correct and Van Morison
Cobwebs blown out!
Mind and heart open.
SO well said...
Van's voice.... IS one of the greatest saxophone players ever
Richie Buckley was with van back in 1980 Beacon Theater when he did Common one/summertime I was floored now 70 yrs old
sure ... he loves to sing as a saxophone ........ !!!!!
Richie Buckley is doing a wonderful conversation in 'common one'
Van is one of the greates saxophone singers ever .....
I'm now 54 years ,35 years withe this musique Thank you van van. ....from morroco
Astral Weeks is nothing short of musical perfection
Van will always be a tie to my late siblings. As soon as his songs play I am with them.
Ditto! Only one sibling, but, he was a dear, dear brother who loved Van so much!
I love the flautist frantically turning the pages in his binder during the first minute. I know that feeling very well.
❤❤❤beautiful. I never imagined that he could do it on stage
Astral Weeks is the most amazing album ever and I have been listening to it for over 50 years and I never get tired of listening to it. And to think it was recorded on just two takes but with outstanding musicians like bassist Richard Davis. For anyone interested there is a lot of interesting Information on Wikipedia about all this.
Astral weeks was the best Album of that time
If this doesn't give you goosebumps you're not a Van Morrison fan.
This man has created the best music I have heard in my long life. I was only 19 the first time I heard this album - I played it over and over all night and memorized every word and sound. It still holds up.
Ditto
He tuns better with time. Amazing
you got music in your soul.
Elizabeth Jarvis me too....exactly!
After near 70 years on this sweet blue planet , listening and enjoying so many great artists. I'm finally sure I've decided on my favorite.
👍 I’m 70ish now and grew up w/ Van’s music 50 + yrs ago, but never really listened to him as much as I did other artists. It’s only been recently that I’ve ‘rediscovered’ and appreciate his style of music much more now than back then! It’s ironic how certain musicians appeal to me as I’ve aged along with them. I think one of the reasons is that I now pay closer attention to the lyrics vs just ‘hearing’ the overall sound. 🤔 IDK why there aren’t more comments on this from 2008 video - imo it’s very nice!
What I find most amazing is how can someone 23 years old compose masterpieces like this?
Because he's 300 years old in spirit
Hasn't happened since.
So true.......

Jackson Browne wrote 'These Days' at the age of 16. They are simply just talented, and have learnt to tap into that wellspring at an early age. It's a gift.
Stunning - this makes my heart race with the beauty of it!
You gave him a huge and well-deserved compliment. 6:19
Compliment of the season 🎄
I smoked my first joint at 15years old listening astral weeks, it soaked into my soul, and has lasted a lifetime, not many things in life run this long, thank u Ivan.
I was born and reared on The Falls Road, but before The War Started in 1969 I used to love going over to Sandy Row Dreaming looking in the fab shops, and of course, there was the wee sweet shop where you could get Clove Rock, Yellow Man and HoneyComb, etc. Loved It.
Nobody does it like Van!
It doesn’t matter what I go through in my life Van always has a song! Thank you Van!
Like so many others Van has been an inspiration for most of my life. A girlfriends brother had Astral Weeks and we played it and played it. I am now 65 but many thanks to Jill's brother, who I think was Stuart. Much respect.
Oh, yes! Astral Weeks was my way in to VM. And Madam (Joy) was my favourite track. VM's discography is supreme and I have most of his albums, but along with his Celtic input, this is one of my favourites and I am happy to see so much of the Man's work online.
I’ve seen this 100 times at least and I want you to know man I love you!❤️!!!
Great compliment, he's a brilliant artist! 4:27
November 1972... alone, window open with a storm going on outside. Slightly altered in mind and emotions, I listened for the first time. The music made its way directly to my heart and has never left... Astral Weeks album, Madame George in particular, feel like a long time friend who I am able to get comfortable with and just let the music take me where it will... paint pictures, evoke feelings, memories and new experiences as well... rapturous!
In this mad world we're living in, I was able to forget just how mad for around eight minutes.
I was at this concert...It was great... It was also fantabulous!
I have seen Van six times..all here in Los Angeles. I saw them all with my oldest brother who is 13 years older than me who pretty much introduced me to Van's music.
I was not even a teenager and he used to play Van's music on his hi-fi, sitting on the floor in our garage, and I remember saying once, "Ughh, how can you listen to that terrible music", but as I grew older Van became my favorite too and I grew to love his music the best.
My brother and I have gone to all the concerts here together that we could. He is 76 now. We missed the last one here but hopefully, there will be another. I have too many favorites to name but "Fair Play" might be my most favorite.
Another masterpiece, Van. Thank you for all the years of truly great music , my friend. I see you, as one of the great original creators of music throughout the Ages.
So laid back and relaxed. What ever noise he makes, it harmonies. He doesn't just perform he is it.
A mystical, melancholic and inspiring spirit. Love him.
Van the man.
elegant comment...in the spirit of Van...
You have that right.
Wonderful remark. Thank you. Well said. No one can comfort the heart and soul like Van. Always a perfect song for the human mood. 💚🎶❤️🎸😊
So proud of our Belfast Boy the one and only Van the Man 🩷☘️🩷
Van is the greatest Singer ❤🎉❤🎉
Not the greatest singer but for sure he's a poet and a great lyricist ❤❤
Van is definitely ' THE MAN ' .....Belfast Northern Ireland might have given us some dark times but it gave us Van Morrison to shine in our hearts and souls like a musical Sun. Rave on Mr. Ivan Morrison and those incredible musicians behind you.
I liked Van when I was younger but as I got older I started to hear him in an altogether different way and that continues to deepen. He is a musical genius which is in evidence in this version of Madame George. This coupled with the fact that I grew up in Belfast and now live in the US, he walks me round my home town and country. I used to walk past Cyprus Avenue each day on the way to School. Keep on singing Van.
Down on Cyprus Avenue
With a childlike vision leaping into view
Clicking, clacking of the high heeled shoe
Ford and Fitzroy, Madame George
Marching with the soldier boy behind
He's much older with hat on drinking wine
And that smell of sweet perfume comes drifting through
The cool night air like Shalimar
And outside they're making all the stops
The kids out in the street collecting bottle-tops
Gone for cigarettes and matches in the shops
Happy taken Madame George
That's when you fall
Whoa, that's when you fall
Yeah, that's when you fall
When you fall into a trance
A sitting on a sofa playing games of chance
With your folded arms and history books you glance
Into the eyes of Madame George
And you think you found the bag
You're getting weaker and your knees begin to sag
In the corner playing dominoes in drag
The one and only Madame George
And then from outside the frosty window raps
She jumps up and says Lord have mercy I think it's the cops
And immediately drops everything she gots
Down into the street below
And you know you gotta go
On that train from Dublin up to Sandy Row
Throwing pennies at the bridges down below
And the rain, hail, sleet, and snow
Say goodbye to Madame George
Dry your eye for Madame George
Wonder why for Madame George
And as you leave, the room is filled with music, laughing, music,
dancing, music all around the room
And all the little boys come around, walking away from it all
So cold
And as you're about to leave
She jumps up and says Hey love, you forgot your gloves
And the gloves to love to love the gloves...
To say goodbye to Madame George
Dry your eye for Madame George
Wonder why for Madame George
Dry your eyes for Madame George
Say goodbye in the wind and the rain on the back street
In the backstreet, in the back street
Say goodbye to Madame George
In the backstreet, in the back street, in the back street
Down home, down home in the back street
Gotta go
Say goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
Dry your eye your eye your eye your eye your eye...
Say goodbye to Madame George
And the loves to love to love the love
Say goodbye
Oooooo
Mmmmmmm
Say goodbye goodbye goodbye goodbye to Madame George
Dry your eye for Madame George
Wonder why for Madame George
The love's to love the love's to love the love's to love...
Say goodbye, goodbye
Get on the train
Get on the train, the train, the train...
This is the train, this is the train...
Whoa, say goodbye, goodbye...
Get on the train, get on the train...
every time, I miss my gloves ....
I get on the train .....get on ....
(and listen to this wonderful, wonderful words and... music)
Amazing to me that he wrote this when in his early 20s. It's still an incredible song over 50 years later.
He has a blues soul,i love this man and i am not gay
The first 500 times I heard this song I was sure he was singing Madame Joy.
there are some Joy families in Belfast ........
maybe ..... he got a lesson from Madame J.
❤
What can I possibly say - a gift from a higher power - to all of us.
Thank You !
Van's gift is truly sacred. He's a nut case like William Blake, but worth the nuttieness for the transcendence. In the Garden makes me cry every time I hear "you were a creature born in rapture" ...
Totally agree with you, this defies description! Pure beauty.
In deed
Magical indeed. Like angels are taking me with them to higher space. My God, he IS music!
Van Morrison is foghorns, sunlight, soft rain, the clicking clacking of high heels, brown-eyed girls and boats sailing into the mystic. If future generations want to feel what it was like to be alive in our time they should listen to Van Morrison, poet laureate- part Mozart, part Shakespeare, all Irish.
Well said! Love the genius that is Van Morrison. ❤️🎶💚
look at the world now theres Madam Georges every were
Watching van morrison sing in live, really makes me high.
Got to say it -if there was ever a time we need this man it's right now -his humanity was ever present in my youth throughout the difficulties at home and here with yiu my chosen friends-this cov-19
thing should make us realise just how much we need eachother-for lots of reasons god bless tim
still here /believe in jc and honor lots of love Van
Who else could turn mumbling into an artform that lifts your soul?
Dylan maybe?
I listen to Van Morrison on a daily basis. I am hooked and love his music. (John Roodt, Kemptonpark, South Africa).
With astral weeks LP, all those years ago, I lived some of my happiest memories with my friends, just sitting around my basement flat in London. I would never have thought that he could still sing Madam George with such power. Amazing. A true musician and an icon. Love it. SMC XXX
What's amazing to me is how his voice got even better as he aged at least up to this point.
Base, violin, sax, flute, voice, lyrics. Majestic. This is honestly one of the best live performances of any song I have ever seen. VAN THE MAN!
Sister joyce left home for boston and when she came home that 1st summer she brought back Astral. Jackie Lomax too. I was a young veteran of the best transformational rock that no one could have ever imagined. I never stopped listening to Astral Weeks. I always feel with all his great albums this was the best. This Hollywood Bowl concert proves that and quite possibly the best of all time
'Transformational' .... spot on!
I saw him once. The entire band looked as if they were tuning up.Van the MA N STROLLS out, straps on a Beautiful hollow body electric. 2 minutes later. ,Even the AIR was transformed! 🎶🎹😃🎸🎻🎷 the. Mighty horns. Holy Crap. The only other man I can think of that can reach that plateau is LEON RUSSEL.💝🎈ENJOY Y'ALL!
When I'm in East Belfast I hear Van Morrison in my head. The city is the people and to me he is the sound and the face.
I attended this concert- he had never performed all of Astral Weeks previously - and the Hollywood Bowl was the perfect spot for this on a warm summer night.....He was magnificent.....
Van the Man. For people that haven't seen
Him live he has an.increasable body of work
He is one of the few artists that I rebought
All his LPs with CDs on the worst days five or
Ten Van M playing lifts and cleanses my soul on special days out comes those LPs

The evil in this world float away treasure hlm
He's that talented magical and in 4decades he's one of the special longlasting blessings around this planet enjoy his gifts gHill

And God created Van the Man, and the world was filled with poetry and music.

Van Morrison is a savant from the Angelic realm. No doubt about that.
THE BAND has to be one of the best ever compliment to Van.
TR5T I agree
He is irreplaceable , incomparable !
The James Joyce of rocknroll
I'm 72 and every time I hear Van performing anything from Astral Weeks is a magical experience. Just my opinion, this album is classical jazz folk way before it's time.
Van can play with your emotions like a six string guitar......he knows the chords)))
get on the train...
Totally original, doesnt follow musical trends, just gets it out from his heart...thankfully we get to listen!
I could listen to that forever.
I listen to Madame George pretty often ..and every time it still moves me ..
Agreed! My favorite track by him and he has many and many of them! Something about Madame George(Joy) that just sucks you in and grabs tight to your heartstrings and curiosity!
The same with me
Ditto!
"And the love that loves the love that loves the love that loves the love that loves to love the love that loves to love the love the loves" (the crowd love it at 4'27") is surely one of the great lines of rock history (I even wrote a university essay on it once)
I have it tattood on my left arm!
Pure modernist. James Joyce or Gertrude Stein might admire it.
A miracle of music we are privileged and blessed to share with a genius thanks man
He is my Godfather of soul, rhythm and Blues, and ballads that pull at the heart. Not just the strings, but my whole damned body, heart and soul.
Love Van´s music since 50 years - best music-man forever !
Someone once said that he has no equal in horn arrangements, but I think his true genius is more in string arrangements!
I was 21 when i first heard this, still sounds great!
The way Van's song overlaps with the orchestra is awesome.
One of the saddest, most hauntingly beautiful songs that always brings me to somewhere deeply in the cityscape of the western grand metropolises
This song just blows me away!!!! What an incredible talent! We're blessed to have Van's music in our lives!!!!!!❤
Van is the greatest ❤🎉love❤🎉❤
Love the Caledonia music!
I love the Irish tones.A glass of wine and Van The Man!!
ICON......ONE OF THE ALLTIME GREATS
An absolute magician, so many great songs/ballads, he's incredibly special. This is the first song that hooked me into Van, and so many years later it has the same appeal. Outstanding isn't the right accolade.
All you need is a good bottle of wine, a good friend, and Van's "Astral Weeks."
Make that two bottles of Chassagne Montrachet!
skip the wine, just a surfboard, van's music and the warm waters of Waikiki beach..
cinzsweet, boom box, sunflower seeds, good old sun country wine cooler back in late 80’s early 90’s hahaha but NOW, 2017-2019 he’s the reason for pulling through these 22+ months of rough times. Love discovering all the ones still unheard, the man’s a genius with a work ethic to match! so we’re finally discovering/getting down to Astral Weeks ...
webdrive1 ,, what about Kandui?? Omg but Waikiki and Van yessssss the visions liftin me up hahaha
best comment ever
The man...the poet, what a great song and video...super quality
I've always been a fan, always, and yet after an absence of Van, I'm always blown away again and again by the depth and breadth of his timeless talent. Makes me proud to be Irish.
Heck, he just makes me proud to be a human.
Dermot H me too!
Makes me happy to be a lover of music like this that touches my heart ❤️
Just ordered this album on vinyl I’m really excited to get plastered and listen to it
I did the same thing during lockdown
It sounds just as good sober.Well, the morphine helps.☘
I hope it’s untouched by anything digital like the original which is one of the best ever analog discs ever….easy enough being acoustic but the cello and the double bass will move your whole being on a good record deck. Enjoy
OHHHHH MAN WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY!! Shivers up and down my old spine..... Another time , another place.... Vans phrasing is just plain magical. Ohhh Madame George ....... Another place and another time......AND IT GOES ON AND ON THROUGH ETERNITY.... !
Un grande..con la voce di velluto testi incredibili performance assoluta..Madame George rivive sempre con Van The Man.stella di prima grandezza...grazie Van.

And they did this whole show with only one rehearsal. Pure magic.
after 50 years of listening to this I still come to the same conclusion that no "Human Being" could have possibly write words and music like this ... still shedding tears x
