Van the man knows how to write brilliant songs and to perform them in different ways. Here he turned 'Ballerina' into a country song. The man is a genius.
“Spread your wings.. come on Fly Awhile.. all you gotta do is ring the bell and step right right up.. just like a Ballerina.. i may be wrong, but something deep in my heart tells me I’m right, and I don’t think so.. if it gets to you and you feel like you just can’t go on.. all you got to do is ring the bell.. step right up… just like a ballerina.. keep moving on up… “ - Van Morrison ✨ Mmmmmmm…xoxox
Van Morrison (Vocal, Guitar) John Allair (keyboards) Pee Wee Ellis (saxophone) David Hayes (bass) Mark Isham (trumpet) Jef Labes (keyboards) John Platania (guitar) Dahuad Shaar (drums)
Wonderful song. Van is a genius. 6 albums in the last four years. I have tried singing and playing this song. Too big a range for me. No one sings and writes songs like Van. I do believe in 200 years people will still be listening.
It's the true measure of an Artist that he can take an existing masterpiece of his own and have the courage, the daring and the vision to change it and come up with another work of sublime fucking genius. Van THE Man.
I love Van Morrison so much it hurts. I will always regret not ever having had the chance to walk with him in nature, philosophise with him, tell him how wonderful he is. But his music will live on forever, even if one day he is not here anymore.
Didn't I see the writing on the wall? And I'm mumbling and I can't remember the last thing that ran through my head. Here comes the man... Oh what a genius!
Astral Weeks is on my personal Top Ten Desert Island albums. I've owned it on Vinyl, 8-track tape, cassette, DVD and now iPad. This version is fabulous! Thanks for it.
Astral Weeks..a masterpiece! Entire album simply put, AMAZING. A MUST for anyone to own. Only gets better with time,,,like the majority of this Master Musicians collection of music. Rave on Rave on...love you Van! stay well!
Try singing like that and you could be at it for a thousands years and not even come close to his level of soul. The band has to be razor sharp to stay with him.. totally amazing performance.
i can't be bothered to work out how old he was here - but i love the tone of his voice during this period. right between the youthful howl and the old man growl. get on up.
Loved Astral Weeks since I was 17 and thrashed the greatest hits too. Only jumped into the rest of the '68-'74 period in last six months. I'm finding it really hard to listen to anything else. Nothing else like him during that period. If anyone knows of a live version of Comfort You from VF (audio only fine) please let me know. :)
I have to agree with you. The version from 'Astral Weeks' album actually sounds like a balletic dance. The audience clapping when he begins the stanza "I may be wrong..." just threw it all off. If you listen to that stanza on the album you can hear the yearning and dejection -- with just some twist of hope -- in his voice. I still enjoy this version - why the hell not -- it's Van, after all. Thanks for posting.
OMG.. the Drummer - I have seen performing in later videos - how INTO the music/feel he is. As is the guitarist.. as is the .... PIANIST. plus trompettisto xxx
I saw him do it at the Beacon in New York, and the "tears ran down like rain", 'cause you know he really means it,when he set's his soul aflame and gives us all a glimpse inside his hedgegrove teacher's heart again and say's a little prayer, what Jackie Wilson said(and John Lee Hooker sang) He packs the truth of wailing catechisms hailing Christ and Lucifer to blame Into each chorus, stanza, break or dropped-down,drawn-out,stop-time refrain Van Morrison; The High King at Tara
Thats Robbie Robertson. He's a Geet God!! I've watched/listened/drank this about six times now and it is perfect!I've seen van four times in the last 20 odd years but he was never as good as he was in the early days:(
there will never be another van morrison. one of the finest performers ever.
If not the finest❤😅
@@pamelaannehowellthe finest 😉
You can tell he is really in his element when he is singing..he was born to sing
i think this is the most beautiful thing i've ever heard. i don't even understand how anything could be so beautiful.
Agree.
Can’t say the same about his teeth….
Nor do i
Agreed❤
I love how he closes his eyes, and really gets into the music and feel it. You don't see artists like this anymore.
Words can't express the brilliance of the man. He transports me way up to a higher plane. I thank the Great Spirit for lending him to us.
Montreax as I still call it 🔥🔥🔥. The bass player is so amazing ❤️
Thank the Lord we have these video recordings of Van in his prime
his prime might have lasted a little longer than your comment suggests. here he is 28 years later. th-cam.com/video/IfaaaDX_Uh0/w-d-xo.html
This one in 2010s is better than the younger one: th-cam.com/video/IfaaaDX_Uh0/w-d-xo.html
@@georgedaffin1654 I said the same thing below, and then I saw your comment, LOL
Oh boy, he aged very well
This was the best concert I ever have seen in my life!!!

I love how he completely ignores the audience. Just completely focused on the music. Never singing the song the same way twice.

Nothing like Van....Thank's for sharing this great performance....
Oh, I get it & I really LOVE Van's music... been a fan for 40+ years. Thanks for sharing !
I consider myself a young but aspiring musical connoisseur - Van is my favorite. Do any grizzled ancients know of anything comparable? I doubt it.
I am not grizzled yet (71) but there is no one who compares with Van the Man!
Grizzled ancient (77) says, "No, I don't". Unles you count Cypress Avenue and Madam George.
Apologies: Cyprus Avenue...
Can't go wrong with 70s neil young and bob dylan
Check out the album Desire by Bob Dylan. Or any of his Rolling Thunder performances on the TH-cams.
Amazing 😍🤩 grace gracias Van the man
