True but there is a point in it too, that someone's past doesn't necessarily define them. I respect people who've committed crimes but turned their lives around. Of course if you find out about it, you'd initially be wary, but better to be mildly cautious than to completely write them off.

In 2012, in the run-up to the Olympic Games, a charity for disabled children, was trying to hire a coach for their Summer Camp. The coach companies, in London, had jacked their prices so high, because of the demand, including demand by the Met, that the charity simply couldn't afford one.
I wrote to Bernard Hogan-Howe, asking if 1 of their chartered coaches was going (empty) to the Olympic events in Dorset, as the empty coach would be passing the camp site. Two days after posting the letter, I received his hand-written reply, promising that his HQ would get on to it; the kids got a coach and went camping!
Can you imagine: the man that lead the police & security operation for the 2012 Games, with all that pressure, found the time (and humanity) to remember the community - LEGEND!

30 years ago. It’s a long time. If you’ve been straight 20-30 years, it’s rough to carry that. I know all the “well, you should never have done it”.....some kids are 19 and DO get led astray by older villains. I have a lot of time for anyone who genuinely turns their life around, far better in many ways than cosseted middle class folks who never had that influence and preach about how they would never do that. A bad penny and all that.

The subtle nuances in the voice when asked 'have you been in trouble BEFORE' when stopped by the old bill, is almost another way of saying you are in trouble NOW, when in fact, you haven't done anything wrong , and you have to remember your far from shiny past, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who resents this, as a straight man.
Being amicable becomes more difficult, with this 'rabbit in the headlights' feeling overtaking your calm nature and feeling an anger brewing. 'it was so long ago'

Let me ask you, if you have no way to defend yourself, how were you supposed to feel safe? What are you supposed to do when confronted by a rapist with a weapon? Bend over and spread your cheeks? However the whole incident was caught on cctv, I spent the next 6 years trying to get it, they wouldn't let me have it, I tried via court order, the commissioner sent a legal team to court to stop me getting the footage so he successfully perverted the course of justice
