- We take a narrowbaot cruise on the canals of Birminham to see the city from a different viewpoint. Along the way, we learrn 8 fantastic facts about the canal network of England and Wales.
We board at Sherborne Wharf opposite Brindley Place. The boat is comfortable with good visibility although I would suggest a seat in the bow for the best pictures. The 'bow' is the front of the boat to landmubbers. There is a small car onboard and a recorded commentary keeps us well-informed throughout the hour-long cruise. We pass inner city bars and bistros as we cast off.
It is a short trip to the Arena concert hall in the Vity Centre before we make our leisurely way to the countryside where waterfront properties are being developed.
Many different types of narrowboat line the canals below the rush and bustle of the city.
Later we pass the famous National Sealife Centre with its 360 degree tunnel while high rise development channels the wind to raise small waves on the surface of the water.
