Classic Game Room - KIRBY'S DREAM LAND for Game Boy review

- Classic Game Room reviews KIRBY'S DREAM LAND for Game Boy from HAL Laboratory and Nintendo released in 1992. This is the first videogame in the popular Kirby series and is very basic and short compared to Kirby's many sequels. A short playthrough of this awesome platformer is not disappointing though. Awesome music, catchy visuals and a relaxed videogame style make Kirby's Dream Land a winner. When you beat the game there's a harder mode of gameplay too (or find out how to activate that online). This CGR review of the gameboy game, Kirby's Dream Land has Kirby's Dreamland Gameboy game play in HD video review action. Watch Kirby's Dream Land played on a Game Boy Advance SP and with a Game Boy Player for Nintendo GameCube (also works with Super Game Boy on SNES). Watch this CGR review of the 1st Kirby's adventure with Kirby's Dreamland review on Classic Game Room.

It's still neat to see the game I sent in get reviewed, all these years later. Long live CGR! ALL GLORY TO THE DOOM SQUIRREL!
NAJ0202 My parent grew up in Revere! Was really cool to hear it in the shoutout and thank you.
Let's go to Kelly's!
CaptainLumpyDog Yeah, I love Kelly's! They've got great fries =D Glad the Revere shout out made you happy, too :)
I can't remember too well, but I think this was my first game!
Playing it along whilst walking and almost walking into roads, portable games can be dangerous to the inexperienced :S
Has to be said. I never EVER watch reviews of video games, because they bore me. But you do it so well and creatively, that it's pure entertainment, and I actually have gone out and bought games based on your reviews. You're doing an amazing job.
I loved this game as a kid! I borrowed it from my friend all the time lol.
Kirby is soooo cute!!!!!!!
and you're so gay
I still have the gameboy cart for this, I must have played this game over 20 times over the years, great fun :)
Amazing game, it has aged very well!
My first Kirby game was Adventure, so playing this one and finding out you didn't had copy abilities made me wanted to play more and see how it is.
Whoa whoa whoa. I owned this game. I recognized the music instantly. It's crazy how video game music alone can take you all the way back.
Ah man that soundtrack takes me back. It'd be great if I hooked it up to my gamecube.
I remember playing this on my original grey brick. A lot of great memories! This calls for Kirby's Pinball Land and Kirby's Dream Land 2!
Kirby's Block Ball would be right up Mark's Alley...way
See what I did there?
I loved to try and find secret teleport doors.
There are more door shaped elements in the background than doors. :P
Are there any more than the obvious three?
The entrance to the one-up area in the caves.
The one across the star pond in cloud land.
The moon above the castle.
Would love to know after searching for all these years.
Never played it, but I love the original Game Boy, the music Nintendo put on it always sounds kind of magical, like the music in Zelda LA. Sparkly and echoey.
A perfect way to end a perfect review for a perfect game. I've played Kirby's Adventure, but I haven't played Kirby's Dreamland yet. I will someday though.
I still can't believe that there hasn't been at least ONE signle truly 3D Kirby game by now.
Such a good soundtrack!
@The260014 NoA had Kirby painted white on the box-art to make it seem less girly. At this year's GDC, Iwata commented about that: "They thought that I would not notice. I did."
I really like Kirby's music; it's always so fun and catchy! I think Kirby 64 had the best music. =)
Gee, that brings back some memories... First game I ever owned. Bought it together with my jungle-green GameBoy (still got both) back in the days, when everything was just fine and dandy...
I finally figured it out: Kirby is named after the Kirby Vacuum Co. They make AWESOME vacuum cleaners. Very expensive, but they will last FOREVER.
The Game Boy Advance SP has built in color palettes for Game Boy games, as does the Game Boy Player, Super Game Boy, Game Boy Color, etc. Sometimes the games themselves had color programmed into them for play on the Game Boy Color or Super Game Boy for the SNES.
I noticed that, it’s a really nice touch!
The main game isn't that frustrating, but if you want some challenge from the little pink cream puff, try expert mode...
Up + A + Select (all at once)
i lover ur reveiw u have the best classic game reveiws and i ll have to pick up this title
The music in this game is great
the music on this game brings back so many memories!
One of my first GB games, and one of my all time favorites. Love teh Kirbeh : /
one of, if not the best game boy game ever
i used to play this game all the time. when and if it's realeased for the Virtual Console on 3DS, ill play it all the time again.
This game is awesome! Memories!
Dream Land 2 was my first Kirby game. Such awesome games.
i have fond memories of this game, played it a lot as a kid.
i've never played kirby...but i did noticed the theme when he started to play......IT'S TWO BEST FRIENDS PLAY'S THEME...HELL YEAH
Love the music!!
Still got my copy, almost 25 years now. Got it for my 6th birthday in 96.
I've never played a Kirby game, but I think I'll make "Dream Land" my first Kirby purchase.
So I just brought out my old gameboy and played this game. Beat it within the first 20 minutes without continues. Then its like "try the challenge mode" tried the challenge mode and got my ass handed to me.
same here
Great! I can play this on my gb, gbc, gba, sgb and gbp!
Ahh childwood memories nostalgia!!!
I actually enjoyed that review
@SmoothCriminalAaron
This is the way I understand it. Original Gameboy games aren't just green/gray, there are multiple shades of green/gray. A device like the Super Gameboy can substitute some of those shades with different colors. They're still just shades, though; which is why a game like Kirby is not that colorful compared to, say, an NES game.
I only knew Kirby from tv ads from germany and I always wanted to play it. As an adult I started to collect Kirby games. This is a really short game. While collecting I found that Kirby games became more distant from what I first liked about in it. The japanese Kirby is cute, lovable and always smiling, the US version is full of anger an always ready to fight. I like the japanese one!
Kirby is actually a brand of vacuum-and being that THIS Kirby sucks his enemies, draws me to the conclusion that he is indeed a VACUUM cleaner.
First Kirby game I played.... :') so many memories.... since then I love kirby
I could understand why they'd think so though. This guy is clearly playing a remake. The original wasn't in colour. But yes, Kirby's Dreamland was first. I remember playing it as a little kid and I loved it back then.
thanks...i will look for it...
Is the 3ds in stereo ps this game is in Kirby super star but it is missing the float island stage 3 boss :(
this is the original CGR, Mark (this guy) owns both channels :P
this is one of only two games I have ever owned for gameboy (which I still have) and I have played through it hundreds of times.
this game was so much fun :)
Oh I love this game. Ehen I was 5 Years old I played this all-day long.
Yes! How could anyone dislike kirby?
yes
Oh my god it is the theme music for Two Best Friends Play!
favourite gameboygames from when i was a kid tetris pokemon and kirbys dreamland
@MontHenryKnitly Never knew this. How did it color games? How did it know where to put the colors, etc.?
Is this the same as the NES version. If so why dosnt he press down and consume the enemies for powerups (certain enemies)
my childhood
omg i love this game i played it so much as a kid :)
Best Kirby game ever, i played this game soooooo much!
I've had Kirby's Dream Land a very long time ago. I've just downloaded the game on the Nintendo E-shop.
Hey Marc!
If you liked Black be sure to keep an eye on Bodycount.
how does the game boy player add color?
for once the video didnt end in a game over hahaha
i just started playing Kirbys adventure on the virtual console i cant belive i never played it before great game its flaw was coming out to late at nintendos life cycle cause by the time i heard about that game i was all over my snes!!!!!
Just one step closer to that Pokemon Red review xD
Kirby Adventure for the NES. Oh, good memories.
I had this on my GB pocket...man that so long ago :)
This is amazing. I played it OVER and OVER. I still love the FUCK out of this game
the music in this game kicks ass
OMG I remember this game :D
@SmoothCriminalAaron
Because he is playing it on anything but an original Gameboy. The GBA, GB player, etc, all allow you to add some color to the original games.
loved this game
i remember playing this when i was 3
yup! thanks to those two great bastards, the kirby song will always be stuck in my head
First video game I ever owned.
Think I got it for my 7h birthday.
@Scatmn64 If I'm stuck on whether to buy a game which CGR hasn't covered, yeah, I'll go to IGN or GameSpot to look up a review, but CGR is far better than either of them, and more reliable to boot. I have a feeling that if Mark was ever offered ten grand to put in a positive review, he'd probably turn it down in order to keep the show as honest as possible. That's the mark (no pun intended) of a great reviewer.
nice music.
How is this in color? i don't remember this being a black kart.
I took this as a tutorial on how to get past the part where two guys come at you with boxes at the same time xD
the mint leaf ha!
man. i used to play nightmare in dream land ob GBA all the time :)
Kirby's the cute pink rint.
my fav gameboy game :)
you can find it easily on amazon. i bought it a few days ago (before i saw this review) and it was very cheap.
just bought this today 1.50 bargain and its a us copy greetings from sunny england
Will it sound happy if you combine the voice of Ganon,Donkey Kong and Bowser and make it say kirby? Yes.
one of the first games ive ever played.
Kirbys epic yarn next plz!
@dopey2k Because he didn't gain that ability until later, meaning that the NES sequel had Kirby learning new powers, while in the very 1st game (this one) he just eats everything.
First gameboy game i ever played!
wait... i remember pressing down and getting the power of the enemy even in the first NES version...
@goodflo911 I use it strictly as a secondary source. As in, when CGR hasn't reviewed a game yet and I'm thinking about buying it. I agree that IGN is terribly inaccurate, which is why I don't use it often.
You don't always have to dispose of your enemies if you press down you can swallow them
@Smallvillenerd - It's a great game, but just too easy. I would like some challenge in the Kirby games, as seen later by the NES and SNES efforts.
i still have this for gameboy
Kirby 64 is still my favorite Kirby.
finally, it seems like mark is back to reviewing games... must've ran out of p.a.p.a. footage.
Hope this is on the Virtual Consol on the 3DS.
@Sickopath333 Exactly. You know developers pay them to put in a good word.
Found it !:D its cool.
@DJTriplestar Same here, Kirby is just too awesome!
lol the tree cries blood
@gp75motorsports That's because good reviewing doesn't cost a dime. :)
