I actually had a dream the other day that the ESRB accidentally revealed that Shotgun Mario 64 (a romhack, much higher quality than it sounds) was getting released on Switch Online. So this gave me a pretty good laugh when I saw it on Twitter
Considering how small and relatively unimportant this game seems to be based on what we know of it, this might be a blessing in disguise for Nintendo because the game is now receiving a greater amount of coverage than it would have likely received otherwise.
It could be that it is Nintendo Japan who does submissions to the ESRB and currently Japan is on Golden Week, a full week vacation. So maybe the person in charge is away in Hawaii

No, each respective branch handles ratings submissions. The autonomy thing you are talking about is game's production, third party agreements and the final approval of marketing. The base functional operations of each branch is handled directly. What is actually happening is that the rating boards don't rescind rating updates based on the marketing practices of individual companies and that Nintendo submitted the game for rating but, without announcing the game. Presumably, it means the game is due out shortly, probably by July at latest. For reference, Luigi's Mansion 2 and Paper Mario TTYD got rated in December and Princess Peach Showtime got ratings released shortly after the new year.
I think the funniest thing about the ending scenario Arlo painted was that Doug Bowser saw the ESRB person was on XBox, rather than Nintendo. That just makes me chuckle.

To be honest, they did do a Nintendo World Championship back in 2017. I remember it because it was another copyright controversy (practically no one could reupload it at the time) but particularly because they used a Moon Mission from Mario Odyssey, the one after you beat the Dragon in the Ruined Kingdom & you capture the rocket to get to it & it’s a 2D section & it was a month or two before it came out. So for all we know, it’s likely they may still continue the championships.

I'd expect the actual game will be like NES Remix minus the Remix challenges with a mode like Nintendo World Championships where you aimed for a certain score in the first two games and the third being a score challenge using the remaining time

I bet I know what the deal with this game is: it’s probably the next “free” online game included with Nintendo switch online, in the same vein as Tetris 99 or f-zero. It’ll probably be a game geared around online competition and that’s what makes it different from the nes remix series. The reason it gets revealed now like this is probably because it’ll be one of those “it’s available right now” announcements in the next direct.

Apparently the Korean ratings board is notorious for listing game ratings before official announcements. Not like, every game, but it happens enough that I've heard multiple games rumors in just the past couple of years coming from Korean game rating listings.
Big example of that is Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. We knew the multi-platform port existed thanks to the NVIDEA Leak from years prior, but the game was officially showed off *the day after* it was rated by none other than the Korean ratings board of all things.

It's entirely possible it's just going to be announced imminently, as is usually the case with Pyoro's leaks. Nintendo has a shareholder meeting on Tuesday, and it used to be the case that they'd announce some games at those.
One theory I’ve heard floating around is that pyoro might somehow have access to Nintendo’s unlisted TH-cam uploads but I don’t know how feasible that would be.

I would opt for another hypothesis, like he's just enough knowledgeable about copyright, patents and registry laws, therefore he checks specific places about these procedures and looks for codenames or similar cues to know what's coming just soon before it releases

One example I know where the ESRB leaked something that didn’t come out would be Earthbound on the Wii Virtual Console. Around 2007 or so people noticed the ESRB suddenly listed an updated rating for the game that specified a release on Wii. Ultimately it never came out on Wii VC, we had to wait on the Wii U many years later instead.

I really liked NES Remix as a teaching tool to get into the mechanics of a classic game. I wish they had something like it for the Switch Online because some of these are not things you would go in cold.
From memory (and most of my knowledge about the Nintendo World Championship comes from casually following the modern Classic Tetris World Championship scene - competitive NES Tetris, basically - since a couple of the original competitors of that competed in the Nintendo World Championship), the original was two speedrun events - get to a specific point, or a specific score, within two games, followed by Tetris, with the goal being to get the highest score on Tetris as you could within the... It's apparently why 'Boom Tetris for ____' became a catchphrase within the CTWC because during the NWC Tetrises were rare - The competitors were around 10 years old and generalist gamers - so the commentator really hyped them up, while they're very common in modern day competitive tetris across all formats, but especially in classic Tetris where there aren't really any alternate strategies if you're in a maximize your score format (compared to the T-Spins, the back to backs, the reward for clearing your board, and so forth, of more modern Tetris formats) - NES Tetris was a simpler game. I think the reason it’s called NWC instead of Remix is based on the fact it’s called NES edition implying their could be ones based on their other consoles
Could you imagine that they publish this and say that whoever gets the best score in each of the 4 challenges will be granted a Switch 2 earlier than release? Would be a great advertisement and would get people really excited for the game, and wouldn't cost them that much money
