I had the total opposite experience in Cambodia 4 months ago, it was amazing, you must attract criminals, I had ZERO issues in 2 weeks all over Cambodia, the TUK TUK drivers were nothing but kind to me, and so cheap, the prices were so low I had to give good tips because I felt so sorry for them

I had a fantastic time up in Siem Reap
There were no issues at all yes they tuk tuk drivers drove me crazy but that's to be expected....
It wasn't until I got down to Phnom Penh where I experienced anything that I felt unsafe and this is where I saw the Tuk Tuk driver set the guy up with the drugs....
It's also where I experienced some rather seedy areas I guess is the best way to put it,,,
And the outright aggressiveness of the Tuk tuk drivers....
but overall my time in Cambodia was very positive I'm not quite sure how you got that from this video all I'm saying is that I would much rather live in Thailand than in Cambodia....

Nice video Mark. I went to Siem Reap last year for a week. I found it a bit like Nam in the way that everyone is trying to separate you from your money. I agree with you about Ankhor Wat, but there is so much to see and it’s so spread out, that I got a bit Templed out in the end and asked my tour guide to take me home.

I am a Californian. I have lived in Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Phillippines, and China, mostly Shanghai. Been thinking about moving to Thailand. You can have the best of both worlds in Thailand: easy laid back stress free and/or busy party time high life. People are nice and friendly in all the places/countries I have lived in. However, things are way too expensive in Shanghai and Japan. Constant threat from China in Taiwan. Mega storms in the Phillippines.

In S.E. Asia the laws are always changing, so you must move to which ever country is treating expats the best. Vietnam used to embrace expats, but now they are pushing them all out and they are fleeing to Cambodia and Cambodia is embracing them. In a few years it might be a different country that treats expats better. That's the whole reason expats left their home country, because they were not appreciated.

Not sure if it has changed that much from October/November last year, but I spent 5 days in Phnom Penh and another four in Siem Reap and had no issues. There were tuk tuk drivers outside our hotel in the capital, but that seemed safer to have the same guys to take you around each day. We walked the streets at all hours with no problems - maybe our area wasn't typical, but it was a budget hotel. We took a tuk tuk to the old capital - two hours outside the city - and it was just fantastic. We were the only foreigners there and weren't bothered (except some kids selling flowers). I'd just say that everyone's experience is different and, if you are aware of your surroundings, you should be okay.

@@rickfreunde5957 You are just repeating the Thai version of events 😂😂😂. Khmer Empire was there many centuries before Thai people even showed up. When Thai people showed up they were sub servents of Khmer Kings but rebelled at some point and formed their own kingdoms first in Lao and then in Ayttaya- Thailand. Thai Kings never never never ruled over Khmer. In fact Thais were barbarians from the jungle while Khmer already had developed civilization, cities, writing etc.
Siem Reap is called like that because there was a big battle in the area and Thais got defeated.
With all respect for Thais but history is history and those who forget it are due to repeat it.
There are some ethnic thais living in Camp so my guess they are the ones working or it could be for some girls from Issan Siem Reap is just closer to travel for work than going across the country to Pattaya.

You need a minimum of $3500 a month with NO MORTGAGE, if you are a renter in Vancouver you need a monthly income of at least $6,000, in Thailand I can live very well for $2500 CAD a month, our income is 3X that, we travel all over SE Asia and still can not spend our money, in Vancouver we would be treading water every month, barely making it.

I used to tell the Tuk Tuk drivers in India that I would pay them extra NOT TO TAKE ME to the tourist shops the moment I got in. Paying an extra €1 per trip didn't bother me. They need the extra money, I get it, but I didn't need the hassle.

it was brutal man the minute I got off the plane and into the Tuk Tuk he started driving and then he pulled over on this really dark Road and I'm thinking what the heck is going on and he just wouldn't stop to the point that honestly I was pretty much ready to just carry my bag and walked where I had to go.....

Asia & fell in love with Thailand & Vietnam, then I discovered Malaysia & like the looks of it. Naturally Cambodia & Laos are central to the others & worth a look too. Phnom Penh turned me off from the get go! Snatching phones & bags, now this from the video, which you confirm. F that! The next question is do I write off Cambodia or just PP. SIEM Reap, Kep, kampot & maybe the island(s). Don't know if there's more than one, look ok. What say you, the voice of experience? It's true that Cambodia is going through a bad economy. In Siem Reap only 30% of the pre-covid tourism is back. There's hardly any Chinese which used to be a huge part of tourism there. The people who primarily or secondarily depend on tourism are finding it hard to put food on the table.

But you get scammed in every major city if you’re not smart about it. The cost of living in Cambodia however, is definitely NOT cheaper than Bangkok. Rent is overpriced and food isn’t cheap, so no clue where people who don’t live here get this Cambodia is cheaper thing 😂 The major perk to Cambodia is the country is amazing and cheap when it comes to visas. Thailand is horrible in that department. Quality of buildings is also better in Bangkok, lots of water damage and mold in PP.

I am a Cambodian still, even though I am carrying another country citizenship and passport. Donkey years ago I left Cambodia and went to live overseas, for I wished to become a "Human Being" and belonged to the "Human Race" instead of remaining in Cambodia and being a narrow minded Cambodian with the others and today they are getting worst, don't be fooled by them, they love your money but hate all foreigners.
Cambodia is hot and things cost just as much as in Germany or France where I now live.
Last but not least, I am happy because I live amongst the true civilised people : here I have friends who are broad minded with whom I can share Knowledge and Wisdom, e.g. Philosophy, World History, Sciences, Arts, Languages and Religion etc... Here is a brief History of Cambodia : until 2000 years ago, the whole Indochina Peninsula, for more than 10000 years, the land had been inhabited by hundred of thousands of native aboriginal tribal primitive people who were the ancestors of the Cambodians today; the Khmers (Aryan Khemara) came from India to Indochina Peninsula picked a suitable spot and conquered the Primitive Native Tribes and created a country called Kampuchea. The civilised Khmers despised the Primitive Cambodians and the feeling was mutual. The Khmers had built a Hindu Civilisation from the late 9th century to the late 14 century and it collapsed completely in the 15th century and 98% of the Khmers died with it. With the help of Thailand, the Cambodians brought Buddhism from Sri Lanka to Cambodia to replace the dead and buried Khmer Hindu Civilisation and Wisdom, and you guess it, the Cambodians have no clue of what the Khmer Knowledge and Wisdom was - for the Khmers thought and spoke a language called Vedic Sanskrit and the Cambodians today, they speak "Gibberish" mixed with foreign words such as French or English or Russian etc...

No. Khmer people are the same as Malay people at least came from the same rout and they were there long before Hindu culture spread out. Khmer kings same as Thai, Malay and Indo accepted Hindu culture at some point as it was most the strongest and most developed civilization in the region. But Khmer didn't come from India they came from the same place all Malay people came from long before Hindu couples aroze.

I live in Phnom Penh & always feel safe. Really safe. Everywhere safe. Only a very stupid person would try to buy street-hard drugs from a Tuk Tuk driver. I have found the Cambodian people friendly & honest. As far as Siem Reap, that is a highly tourist destination. You have to watch your step a little more there because there are people who may take advantage of you. Most won't, but the few that do work much harder. All this said, Thailand is a more fun, interesting destination. I always enjoy going there & next month am taking my Khmer GF for a 2 week Thailand vacation. I've been going to Thailand since the 1970's. And guess what? I was robbed twice in Bangkok. It can happen anywhere if you are careless.

well Mark Sabean thats your own opinion and you do have the right to yorur own opinion but just becouse thats yoru own opinion does not mean you are right. for one in my own opinion you are wrong what you say in this video. for i am sure there are meany more people that will disagree with you on what you hae said about not just cambodia and all so what you say about thailand just look at all the other expats go and live in lot of other counties other then thailand even then cambodia. for me i would love to live in vietnam if it was not for the language and for me its the same with thailand and cambodia thats why i would pick some other country that speaks english and there are so meany countrys in southeast asia that do speak english other then philippines too. this is why your wrong with what you said in this video for i do know people that do love living in cambodia. yayaya i know its not for you but you can not tell others that its only a nice place to visit but not to live there this is only that you feel that way about for your self. thats jsut fine that you feel that way. your just wrong telling others that is all. its up to them if its just a nice place to visit or to live there for them selfs.

Hi.i am Thai and I love your video, thank you ❤😊. But 1 thing i am not sure about Thai girl working in combudia bar. 🤔. What kind of evidence/ proof that She or they show you that they are Thai? Coz in this situation It is not safe for Thai people living in Cambodia and the Thai currency exchange rate is higher. Hundreds of thousands of Cambodians illegally come to work in Thailand. and often Cambodians claim to be Thai. However, I do not mean that it is impossible for Thai girls in Cambodian bars Just feeling curious.😄.Hope you are safe and have a nice trip.🏖️🥂🍸🍹

I have not ever felt unsafe. I did visit PP and I did not like it. I know some people that love PP. I am not a big city person. I do like Vietnam the best of all in Asia. I like Hanoi. But, I love Da Nang. Everyone has different experiences, as well as different likes and wants in life.

Why hello there again Dr. Marc - - one word that I don’t particularly like is, “never “, no you say you would never live in Thailand, but is there not a few situations where you would live in Thailand? For instance, what if you were madly in love with former Miss Canada and miss world who also was madly in love with you and only wanted to live in Cambodia. Maybe The major reason she wanted to live in Cambodia was it was the only place in Southeast Asia where she could avoid using chopsticks. You know women can be quite irrational, right? Now, tell me you would not live with her in Thailand?
Another word that I’m not too keen on and it has been super popular lately is the word, “toxic “. It’s one of those words like good and bad that is used to taint a person without having any facts behind it.
“her smile is so toxic that it triggers me to throw up. “
“His tipping is so toxic that the bartender Will not serve him and will immediately start to weep.“
“That guy is so toxic walking around with a big bulge in his pants. “
