It's a very weird feeling to turn into the adult that your teenage self, who hated the world, thought you would never become.
Weird to turn into a combination of your parents when you said you never would. Weird to grow out of half your tastes and lose your anger.
The older I get, the more in tune I feel with Nashimoto's music. I don't think any producer has spoken to me the same way he has. It's honestly amazing. I know I often sing praise for his music for a number of reasons, and I could write a whole essay on everything he does right and how wonderfully he conveys his emotions through his songs but... In the end, I think all I want is for him to understand how deeply he's touched me (and, I'm sure, many other fans) even through translation. I hope he understands how important some of his songs are to us. I guess I just got a little too sentimental, but that's the sort of mood he tends to put me in (:
violentvioletbanana It's nice to see that other English speaking fans feel the same way that I do. I became Nashimoto's fan when I was 15. Back then, most of the lyrics' meaning flew over my head & I enjoyed the music from whatever understanding I had at that time. As I grow older and time goes by, I've come to understand & relate to these songs on a profound level. It's amazing and I've never come across another artist who's had an even remotely similar effect.
It's disheartening that the fans over here can't meet him how one can meet a celebrity like Justin Bieber. It's impossible. And even if I could meet him, I don't speak his language, so I wouldn't be able to convey the sentiment. ):

In this song, he's reflecting back to when he was 14, a depressed, troubled teen. Loathing school and things of that nature, he'd look at the future that the adults in all of our lives speak of: going to college, getting a job, starting a family, settling a down, etc, and call it worthless. Young and youthful, he had bright dreams, aiming for something larger than that.
Fast forward to present day, and that future, that life, that he'd look down on so much, is what he's currently living today. He's can't decide whether he's content with such mediocrity or not.
In the end, as was stated in the bridge, he's saying that it's fine to live that way, that that's the answer.
Not knowing whether he's miserable because things didn't turn out the way that he wanted them to, or if he wants to keep living the life that he leads, he continues to go through the monotony of everyday life undecided.
I feel like I can really relate to this song. 14 years old was a really difficult time in my life...
This song isn't really about 14 being a hard time, but adulthood being terrible. They were melancholic as a teen, but still held onto hope. Hope that was later crushed by their disillusionment of adulthood.

Am I the only one who thinks Nashimoto is actually really optimistic? All his songs are like an infinite blackness with a spot of white in the middle. And in a way, the white seems all the brighter for its surroundings.
I totally agree, that's why I love his music so much. I can relate to so many of his songs too, so it's just really awesome knowing it's not just me and like it really sparks your spirit to keep on fighting on in life haha >:D

Man...this song has spoken to me like no other song could, and to say the truth, it hurts. Even being 18 years old already, i still feel like this, it sucks, to say the least. Nashimoto's music has really become a way for me to understand how i feel when not even i know how i feel. I'm grateful this song exist.
Nashimoto's songs hit on such a personal level, i don't usually reply to comments but i hope you're doing okay. You're not even 20 yet, you still have so much to do !
I guess Nashimoto talks about the dismay he felt when he was 14 because he didn't notice any changes in his life.
It reminds me when my mom tells youth goes fast, I retort that it doesn't matter for me because I feel like I'm already fed up of my life and that I'm longing to be an old man to rest in my pension house and remember of the past years until my last day :)
