Enko is short for "enjo kosai," which means "compensated dating", which isn't really (or always) prostitution
ENKOO~ (ENKOO~) ENKO SHOUJO!
I don't really like how Nashimoto uses Miku, but his/her songs are really captivating

Since this song is becoming popular again I'd like to share my thoughts on what I think the lyrics mean:
The singer (either male or female, doesn't matter) is a highschooler who doesn't understand why everyone at their school is so obsessed with sex/love, however they are in love with a girl from their school, who they believe to be pure and "a virgin". However, there's a rumor about her, that she is an "Enko Girl" (or someone who does compensated dating).
The singer sulks in their room when they find out this rumour, trying to convince themselves that it's not real, but they can't get it out of their head. During a class reunion they look at her "innocent smile" and wonder what would be behind it, which prompts the singer to investigate.
They see her holding hands with an old man in a station and try to do something, but are unable to. Their voice doesn't come out and their body doesn't move, the singer starts thinking about their feelings for this girl. Do they still love her? Do they hate her? It's a complicated feeling. They're sad but they can't even cry about it, all that's left to do is move on from those feelings.
At the end of the song, the singer repeats "I...I...love you...etc" until just saying "I...I..." and nothing more, seems like the feeling of love has completely dissapeared...or has it?
Something you might've noticed about this song is that there's a constant play on words between the english word "I" and the japanese word "Ai" which means love. So in the end, maybe they're saying "Ai, Ai", meaning "Love, Love", and as hard as they tried, they STILL love the Enko Girl.
It's left open-ended, which I think make this a really amazing song!
Your analysis is my fav
4:02
Never thought about it till your analysis but a queer interpretation is much more interesting and adds another layer to the song. She feels guilty for wanting someone of the same sex, and thinks that they are unreachable because they are straight, then she finds out that the girl goes out with people she assumedly isn't attracted to for money.
Knowing that the singer could also in theory have what the old men have but it would taint their crush and ruin their feelings that she believes are pure, as well as feeling shame for considering it. Knowing there's no way to both actualise her desire and keep that innocence, she decides she just doesn't want to see that girl again.
There's also the fact that they talk about meeting at a highschool reunion, as adults. Knowing that it might have been something the girl only did in highschool, there's no way to bring it up. And although it's messed up to want to spend the night with her in exchange for money, the singer might have 'missed' the only opportunity to be physically close with her.
This song is very interesting to me, i don't see people making like. a lot of analysis about it
but from my own interpretation, this song clearly deals with the struggles of puberty, of course, but with more themes sprinkled in about things that genuinely happen around that development
- the lyrics talking about a girl, with the vocals being Miku, which to me feels like an intentional choice about possibly experiencing same gender attraction, and struggling with the confusion of not having opposite gender attraction like most peers while youre going through puberty, only to try and repress it or maybe even hating the person youre attracted to because you don't know how to deal with those feelings
- the general jarringness of going through puberty and suddenly having a libido that you can barely control
- the fact that the girl the song is talking about being referred to as a virgin, despite the implication that theyre in highschool, and this being said to be a bad thing. It reminds me of how as a teen, you sort of envy your peers who have had the chance to have sex, without understanding or realizing that youre still too young for that to be appropriate or even safe.
- the girl dating an older man seeming to invoke a feeling of both jealousy and envy. jealousy for wanting to have a same gender relationship with someone while having conflicting feelings about it being wrong, and envy because of my previous point where teens may think its cool or even become envious for wanting to date way older people than them, again, not realizing the reasons why its wrong
to me, the 'prostitution' aspect is more like figurative speech, relating more to the 'loss of innocence' that happens while you begin to experience these kinds of feelings, as if you were paying with it in an attempt to experience love, which now seems 'tainted' by all of the aspects i mentioned before
UNDERRATED COMMENT.
Man we need more people like you 👍👍
you definitely got an a* in english lit
Nah I think it's quite a bit more literal just telling the story of a girl in her class who started doing enjo kosai (being a sugar baby). I mean it literally says she saw her with a man in his forties in some sketchy district
I think all of the points you make are true, however I think it’s both the inner turmoil of same-sex attraction as well as child prostitution.
Since enjo kosai is a common problem in Japan, I think they also wanted to touch on how the victims in these scenarios are mistreated by their classmates. Her love for the “enko girl” would be forbidden because she is both a girl and “dirty”
I love how nashimotos music sounds like a local garage bands, a unique quality imo

Ok. Can we just take a moment to appreciate the “aaaahs” in the chorus.
YES
This song gives me a strange feeling of apathy. Actually, it's the kind of song I'd listen to when I'm not feeling the greatest, like I'm feeling extremely burnt out or particularly apathetic about something.
Maybe it's because that's kind of the vibe the song gives? Like, that feeling of "yeah this is just how things are, unfortunately" and being unable to do anything but grit through the suffering and pain that stemmed from wanting something that you simply could not get properly.
I like it for this though, that feeling is not something I get to listen to in songs very often.
nashimotoP's songs just have that vibe ig
Yeah :|
Everyone is over for the 4:00 part but the enko-enko girl part with a background voice scratches my brain
I've seen people describe murders sounding less disturbed then this
I feel this is about the singer who sees themselves as above their other classmates for not having sex/not being "crazy" over sex. They also seem to dislike a particular girl for being someone who "acts" innocent and sweet but is actually someone who sleeps around. They know this girl sleeps around due to rumors and when they were a little younger they themselves saw her going around with older men, presumably to get money. In actuality our narrator is someone who's interested in sexual things adn the reason they find it as less than for others thier age going around having sex is because they're jealous, they want to have similar sexual experiences. Deep down this also comes from them wanting to have a deep and strong connection to another person. They're also jealous of how pretty and cute this girl is which makes them feel insecure about thier appearance and how sexually/romantically appealing they may be to others. This insecurity fuels thier dislike for the girl. While all of this is happening they also feel incredible guilt for being jealous of the girl and for feeling helplessness in helping the girl. As they saw this girl being groomed and know that she may be in mutliple bad relationships with oldermen and endangering herself. They know the girl has more to her than just sleeping around but thats what she's become to the school and the people around her, she diappears along with her "innocence". They also wish to be like the girl no longer a virgin and instead sleeping around, for they see it as a way of growing up/ a show how wanted by others they are! again they also feel ahsamed for this line of thought.
4:50 may be about how if they did reach out and help the girl they may still be as happy as they used to be as they could've been.?
“I-I-I love you, what embarrassing words. I-I-I need you, what rubbish feelings. I-I-I want you, what a crappy-sounding wish, but still I-I love love love love in my head, only that” Literally most relatable thing ever [ 04:01 ] also [ 5:31 ] is very relatable and literally sounds so good
i love the part where it is like "I love you/I want you/I need you" LIKE BOI IT SPEAKS TO ME

I see a lot of people interpreting this with the vocalist and girl in the song as two different people, but from my personal interpretation I always thought Miku was singing about herself... I'm not sure if this was nashimoto's intentions, but this song is a decent parallel to being a rebound girl and the feelings that come with it
Down to the images flashing at 3:50, those are all places you get very comfortable in when you're going on a lot of dates
"never want to meet her again" sounds like she's looking at her past self. accepting that what happened, happened. and walking away to move on forward with her life.

This song is literally what I'm experiencing right now
I have a crush on my classmate, who dates an older male individual. And she always tries to look cute( tbh I adore her makeup skills)
Bruh how does one get in that much trouble (nah just kidding I feel you)
I mean, I got friendzoned twice by the same girl in too different ways. The first time, she told me I was just her friend, so I thought I wasn't enough, but I kept being around her and being a good friend while sometimes telling her I love her (I'm shameless sometimes like damn) and then one day she told me I deserve better than her and she doesn't deserve me... like... wtf...
I can't even get her in the first place I don't think I deserve anything more, and she's way better than me if anything, I am the one who doesn't deserve her, and what does that even mean like...
Bonus: she told me she doesn't see a problem if I keep telling her that I love her sometimes, which helps me a bit with the situation...
And recently we talk a bit less I'm worried like... does she give a damn about me or was I just being the worst friend ever all this time...
God, this is a complex situation. I only gave like a third of the story...
@@dyltanidk if you're still in that situation, and obviously i don't know either of you so i can't really say how it is- but, if it still matters, her not being into you that way may not be something you can change. romantic feelings are unpredictable and you can't really force them, your friend may just not be able to feel that way about you, no matter how much you try to convince her.
i know that's painful, one-sided feelings really really really suck! but if it comes down to it (again, idk what the tone of your friendship is at all, take what i say with a grain of salt) it may be better to keep a good friend than to let a relationship get sour and resentful by forcing something that she just doesn't want.
i can't give any advice on how to make your own feelings go away, unfortunately. hey maybe i've completely misjudged the situation and you're happily together now. i wish you luck, anyway.
@@shineymightyena well for some goddamn reason SHE stopped initiating conversations, but it's alright, and no we're still friends, if you call it that, seems like she's avoiding me, but I mean, she's busy so I'm probably only pestering her, and yeah I know what you mean, I never believed or wanted her to change her feelings for me, just for her to acknowledge how deeply I loved her yknow
@@dyltanoh hey, didn't expect a reply so soon, hello :)
i'm sorry about that, it sounds difficult. i hope you guys can have an honest conversation and hash things out. (hypocritical advice from the keyboard of a conflict-avoidant: don't be afraid of conflict! just remember to consider the other person's feelings in the process, the goal is finding the *truth* not forcing your own way, etc etc) but i'll stop with the bossy advice, now.
i get not feeling like your words have weight to someone. feels awful when you know you just can't get someone to care about the emotion you're trying to communicate (but then again, i've definitely been on the other side of that exchange as well) if she is avoiding you, she might just not really know what to do about it- intense emotions are tricky on all sides, yknow?

I showed my mom this song and she liked it :) we had an interesting conversation about its meaning too! Ty for the subtitles.
It’s weird because I know it’s not about being Hypersexual but as someone suffering from it this song sorta speaks to me in a way-
Honestly I think that kind of feeling is what Nashimoto-p was trying to reflect! Awkward teenage stages when you don't understand your attraction, and get mad at yourself for it (like the iconic part at 4:00)
@@ElBorderhopper3852 i think the scenario is a bit too specific for that, but the feelings definitely!
I find this pretty interesting bc I’ve also seen a take from an asexual commenter about finding this song relatable. It’s neat that anyone on the sexual spectrum can find personal meaning in the lyrics imo

Comment les éleves parlent agroupés à l'heure du déjeuner;
Tu disparaissais, Tu disparaissais
Au loin... Au loin... Au loin... Au loin...
(I, I, I love you)
(I, I, I need you)
Quelle reflexion stupide quel, sentiments d'enfants
(I, I, I want you)
(I, I, I I I I I)

I love how open to interpretation this song is. The lyrics are terrifying. While yes the song is about struggles of puberty, I think there's more to it than that. Someone else in the comments pointed out that "enko" is short for "enjo kosai", Teenage girls who go on dates with older men in exchange for money and other frivolous gifts, which is a pretty prevalent problem in japan. The singer is presumably a fellow high school student and has fallen in love with this girl. The singer states how she is seemingly innocent and pure, and then learns that she is essentially a teenager prostitute and it destroys their perception of her.
I think the part about the station is the most terrifying part cause to me, it seems to imply that this man she was with was going to kill her? Or maybe I'm reading too much into it. Which is a harsh and sick reality. That could happen to any number of these girls. The song has so much social commentary and well as deeply disturbing lyrics, but yeah duh its Nashimoto.
That was a long one. oof. If you're still here thanks for the read.

I really like the raspy way nashimoto-p tunes miku
I know this song is about prostitution or compensated dating, but as an aroace lesbian the first part of the song really stuck with me
It was difficult seeing all my friends developing crushes and experiencing sexual attraction. I've always thought it would be a waste of time then I fell in love with someone, but then I was over it maybe a year later.
It's the only time I experienced love and it was ripped away from me sooner than I wanted it to be. It hurt breaking up, don't get me wrong, but I wanted to experience the pleasure of love again. I've slowly been shifting completely to aroace, and I don't like it.
At least if I had been completely 100% aroace, I never would've experienced love in the first place so I didn't have to feel the pain of it being ripped away from me, possibly forever
As an aroace myself, you've just explained what I couldn't on how this song feels to me. Before I knew I was aroace I had thought I loved someone but it soon turned into emptiness. I get sad seeing everyone else feel love and everything else. I want to feel that way. The only time I could ever feel the pain of love was that one person but now it only feels empty. Also on a side note, i hope you're doing better now!
3:43 personal time stap for me
I've never related to a song more. Is this actually.. Bad? To relate to this? I'm graduated and stuff now. But thinking of the memories gives flashbacks.
I'm in my last year of school and I know what you mean, it's not so bad to see people with the Same pain as you.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that, you didn't deserve it and I hope you feel better soon.

3:33 why does this part is so touchy for me 😅
ADORO.
Can anyone explain me what is an "Enko girl" ? Even after lissening 98765957 times I still don't understand...
Enko is short for "enjo kosai," which means "compensated dating", which isn't really (or always) prostitution
@@katouakari5722 Mmmh, okay, thank you, it's more clear now ! :3
@LAPXUS i can tell that you are a very bored person who really doesn't know what to do with your priorities nor do you care.
@@katouakari5722 It's like someone who do sex in the first date ?

@@sleepinessssz just an example of tik tok ruining a song and removing the context completely.
i relate to this song because i found out a friend had gotten into dating older men for money like this too, when we were in highschool, and i couldnt believe it, because she always looked so innocent, and she didnt have a bad life, she just wanted money.

I was listening to this when HOLY SMOKES I literally heard background noises, I was so scared because it sounded like a baby? Was crying? Eh not really sure But either way it matched the song so perfectly. I guess this adds something to the well known theory of the song about someone who saw there crush being an enko girl I suppose-? The sounds could be there crush crying or something but like, woah that gave me chills.
E' bellissima~

ur shy but wants to confess your felling to you crush:
What is this song about? I've listened to this multiple times and still don't know the meaning of this.
It is a song about a boy who loved a girl since adolescence, but since that time he heard rumors and had his own suspicions about the girl going out with older men in exchange for money or some gift.
In addition, he is also depressed if he really loved her or just wanted to have sex with her. And with the enormous sadness of having to accept that the girl he loved is kind of a prostitute, he laments saying "I can't cry anymore, it's too late. I became an adult".
In reference to the fact that it is a shame for an adult man to cry, especially because of romantic relationships. And with that, he keeps thinking over and over again about these feelings for the girl, without being able to externalize.
@@Enrikuh is it really about a boy? could be a girl too. just a person who is in love with that girl
@@plxtonic3464 There is nothing to point out that it is a girl.
It is very clear that the character in love is a man.
Who thought that the girl he loved was pure and virgin, unlike the boys who were his and hers colleagues. And he calls these colleagues monkeys who kept talking grotesquely about sex.
And the whole complex that he has, of not being able to express the sadness he feels when he finds out that the girl he likes, is a type of prostitute, fits much more with the behavior of a man. Because it is shameful for an adult man to cry. Even more crying because of love.
In addition, men seek much more for a woman who is pure and virgin.
It is something about men, which exists in any culture.
Finally, there is no indication that the passionate character is a lesbian woman. There is literally nothing to point this out.
This song was clearly made for boys who feel they are going through the same situation, or something similar.
@@Enrikuh i dont think it was made 4 boys, as far as i can tell there is no true indication of the gender (your reasoning does not make sense, many women feel the same as that) so i think its up 2 interpretation
@@Enrikuh bro let the gays have something

This may be a stupid question but does "enko girl" mean anything or does is just mean enko girl?
i'm assuming it's a shortening of enjo kosai which wld js mean the singer is referring to the girl as someone who does enjo kosai same way u wld call someone who does crack a crackhead
@@irlbel ahhh ok! I thought it meant something but I'm not too well versed in Japanese yet- been trying to learn more so this was helpful! Thank you!
