What are those 2 hoses coming off the top? I have the original carb and it doesn’t have those. I just bought a replacement that has 2 connections for the hoses. Is it just an overflow? Thank you
Bigger carb doesn't always mean more power. 9.9 has about 60% more displacement than the 6hp. Both have a top speed of about 6k rpms. More power doesn't mean more speed. Changing the Prop pitch may increase speed to a point.............Find the ideal Prop Pitch to HP/RPM ratio.......Also, try adjusting the trim. Proper trim can increase speed a lot. Have to also change the exhaust and prop for it to run right. 6hp dont even have an exhaust tube it dumps down the leg and has a small outlet the 9.9 one is an actual tube with a larger outlet and slightly flared at the end. Earlier mercs from the mid 80s and up had the same cc engine for 6-9.9hp only the 15 was larger then in mid to late 90s they just used the larger displacement 15hp block and just choked the 9.9 down a bit with different exhaust and carb. Those larger displacement 9.9 motors do have a notable difference in performance compared to the smaller displacement.
I dont swear by it, but I know for carbs with sliding throttle (moped/scooter) there are different atomizers for 4 and 2 stroke, where a twostroke carb on a fourstroke would not be made for such long pause between the strokes, however if you try, please update us😊
Just did this to my 6hp Tohatsu. Watched yours to make sure I did it right. Thanks.

Drain hoses.
@@sportsmansalvagecompanyinc7932 thank you sir 👍🏼
So what did you swap it out with?
What carb did you put in? Part # and source would be awesome. Would the Tohatsu generic MFS6 be the same carb?
I have to hit 500 subscribers before it will let me post the links. :(
I just put a 9.9hp carby on my 6hp 2stroke merc and it’s only going 2kmph faster do you know why it’s not going it’s full potential

Would this be the same process for 5 hp? Thanks
Yes.
Would a 9.8hp merc carby for in a 2stroke 6hp merc (2007)
