I had my first mammogram at 16. I recieved the info that I had fat lumps too. Until age 36, when a tumor was found, mindboggling but it also took me 6 months, 3 biopsies to finally hear that the tumor was non cancerous yet needs to be checked ever year because of breast cancer in the family. We need more videos like this to break taboo! Thank you for sharing.
I'm only 25 but I've had an irrational fear that I'm going to get breast cancer and will have to get a double mastectomy. I do self checks a lot, but I don't know what a lump/tumor will feel like because I feel like all of my tissue is kinda lumpy
I have the same issue. I have health anxiety and am constantly doing self checks, but I have no idea if a small bump here or there is normal or something to be concerned about. I also have fibroids due to PCOS so...there's lots of lumps in that region! It's definitely a struggle, and I always talk myself out of going to the doctor because I don't want to be that crazy hypochondriac.
@@biancadesousa Yes I've been trying to get in with a doctor about that and PCOS in general because I'm higher risk for a lot of things because of it, unfortunately they've not been very helpful about it.
A similar thing happened to my mom only it wasn't her age that made the doctors deny the fact she had cancer, she had all the symptoms and knew something was wrong with her body and kept going to doctors and visiting the hospital because she knew something was wrong and over 6 months she was turned away time and time again. Until she went to the hospital one night and a doctor in the ER gave her a referral for a breast cancer specialist because he agreed- something was wrong. The specialist confirmed my moms symptoms as breast cancer and she was diagnosed with stage 3 borderline stage 4 breast cancer. She was misdiagnosed for 6 months with many different things. I'm so glad my mom listened to her body and I can now say that she is a 15 year cancer survivor.

I hope this video gos to so many people because if it gets one more person to put thier fear aside to go and get it checked slightly sooner then I did it would be enough
did you had a mammogram or an ultrasound? i had that same scare as you recently. i also went to the doctor and turns out it was nothing it was just my anxiety and lack of knowledge haha i never really touched my breasts so yeah, my anxiety acted up.

That is so crazy, frustrating and unacceptable that you had to wait a whopping 8 months!! I hear this story ALL the time. All drs/radiographers/radiologists must take this seriously and investigate any lump or breast change that a woman (no matter how young/ old) presents with immediately. There really should be laws put into place to ensure this is happening. Too many lives lost or disrupted because no medical specialists listen to a patient's concerns until its potentially too late and the breast cancer has reached stage 4. Thank you for sharing your story.....these stories need to be told in public so that more and more drs are aware that breast cancer can occur in young women, and do what they are trained to do....SAVE LIVES
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 19 as well. Took years to have doctors take it seriously. I always make sure all my young female friends check for lumps because I’m the prime example of why there’s no such thing as too young. It would’ve prevented me so much damage that was left over after my breast surgeries to remove them had I had them taken out sooner. If you have any suspicions of any lumps on your body. TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY!!! there’s no such thing as too young.
My cousin had a similar experience. When he was 19 he was diagnosed with blood cancer. But was misdiagnosed way too many times, and many doctors didn't take him seriously when he told them about the pain he was experiencing. It all started when one day he went to play football (soccer) with his friends and he returned home with a painful bruise on his hip. But even after a week or two had passed the 'bruise' didn't go away, in fact it became more painful and discoloured. So they went to a family doctor who said it will go away in a week and send him off with no medicines or answers. A week later he went back and this time he was prescribed some medicine for bruises. When that didn't work they went to another doctor who also gave him some medicine for bruises. But still no use. So they went to many different doctors, like atleast 5 or 6. By this time he was finding it hard to even walk. Then finally a doctor did some tests and found that he had cancer. Then he had many chemos, lost his hair, his face swelled up, but he never lost his positivity. Now he's been cancer free for 3 or 4 years and still a happy person, finding fun in trashing his brother, and living his life to the fullest. Love you bro 😘
This is saddening, but the same is the case in the uk! They don't listen to young women when they say they're in pain etc It has to take for the girl to be near deaths door before they take it seriously. Just reminded me to ask a nurse some questions concerning my own health. All the best for you, keep fighting and with support, you will make it!
I've been seeing and hearing stories like this, where the physician would normally dismiss something immediately without doing a thorough (i mean all possible) medical exams to justify their thoughts. I suddenly remember a similar post in BF about misdiagnosed patients a few months back. I wish those types of medical professionals would undergo a thorough ethics course. Edit: Now I understand why some people do not fully trust family physicians or those who not not specialize in a particular field. Am just happy this lady took the time to look for a specialist who knew better
Aww she’s so pretty! I’m having to get an ultrasound of my breasts for pain next week and I’m terrified. I’m 25 myself and never had to do it. But girls like her keep me positive
OMG! I can totally relate to being dismissed by doctors! I'm 21, from California, and I have recently been having some unexplained health issues over the past few months, I've been to my doctor and two specialists and have been told I'm "normal" by all of them, yet I'm still very much regularly having symptoms.. So, for a second I thought you were telling my story! I've been persistent though, but still no answers.. but it's good to know sometimes persistence like yours pays off eventually!! Thanks for sharing, it's so relatable to me!!
Your story means a lot...I've had the same first stages and steps with doctor's telling me to not worry it's all natural fatty tumors. I went to a specialist a year ago for a biopsy and they said to return later if I feel the need to. They also had insane amounts of malpractice that I caught and they wrote me off as a charity case on the books to hide it all. This makes me feel that need though, thank you Eliza.
I found a squishy lump in my right armpit pretty close to breast tissue and I get my first mammogram (along with ultrasound imaging) at 24 next Friday. We think it’s just a cyst or fatty tissue but it’s terrifying being so young going through something like this because the possibility of cancer is there because of location, although I have no family history of breast cancer. I finally have a good relationship with my boobs and like them a lot so I really don’t want to lose them. 😩 It took me 3-4 breast exams for them to confirm the lump and send me for extra imaging, even though it is very clearly visible. I have no idea how long it’s been growing. You HAVE to be your own advocate as a young female receiving health care. Nobody knows your body like you. They think if you’re young you have no health issues (FALSE) and because you’re a woman you’re just being hysterical (FALSE.) It often takes several doctors visits and hundreds of dollars for women to get an accurate diagnosis and that has got to change. You should start getting breast exams regularly really when you develop breasts as a teen, they say in your twenties but we all have breasts well before then. Ask your partner to just keep an eye (or hand 😉) out and tell you if they notice ANY changes at all, whether it be size, color, or texture, and immediately go to the doctor if you notice a change. Partners will oftentimes notice something before we do. Always check yourself about once a month. Cancer doesn’t discriminate!
The family doctor needs to be looked into. Just because she was persistent doesn't mean the other women would be too. It could be lethal for several other woman if this "doctor" is treating them.
If I got breast cancer or any hectic sickness I'd honestly just give up cuz there is no way my family would be able to afford treatment. But I'm rly glad that things worked out for you🤗👍
I found a lump 2 months ago, I’m only 17... I dreaded going to the doctor so I only went last week. My doctor told me that it was just a cyst, but I need to do a mammogram to be sure. While it’s probably a disease called mastopathy (which is harmless btw), it’s still really scary!!! Don’t be like me and go to the doctor immediately, you’ll feel so much less stress :) (I’m also not American, so worrying about financial stuff isn’t really there for me) (edit) So because I'm only 18 (now), I had to do an echo instead of a mammogram. It wasn't matopathy, but a breast fibroadenoma. It's nothing, but it gave a lot of stress (and hypochondria)
@@SpiritsJamaa it wasn’t painful when I wasn’t on my period, but it could be a bit painful when I was on my period or a few days before :) but go to the doctors anyway. I felt really awkward, but it wasn’t at all !!
@@SpiritsJamaa oh and also, is it growing? If it is, definitely go to the doctors!!! If it’s not, it might be nothing dangerous, but do go the doctors of course :)
@@iemand2612 thanks for replying! it was the same for me at first I think, where it was only persistent during and before my period. it definitely isn't growing, and if anything it feels more like it is just the same tissue present on both sides, except the left hurts more to touch--so it's hard to tell if it is even a 'lump'. I am oddly suspecting that it is a cyst, which I will definitely get checked out if any pain persists even after some lifestyle changes.
How dis you get insurance? I have some saving, same age, and with the tumor making my breast asymmetrical. Im trying to get it checked out but wondering if they take me serious if i dont have insurance yet :(
i wish doctors and other medical professionals took people’s concern much more seriously. whats the big deal having her get a mammogram? it doesnt hurt their pockets, and it gives her a peace of mind. also we need medicare for all. insurance even with the ACA/Obamacare is too expensive.
the problem in USA is just that: it hurts their pockets! when I watch this kind of videos, I don't understand how americans can live their life without constant anxiety!
Doctors have everything they do monitored by insurance companies. They have to fill out reports justifying everything - it's said that half their time is filling out reports. Too many tests that don't pan out that aren't then covered by the insurance companies - who go by actuarial tables - gets a doctor fired. I'm not justifying doctors, I'm telling you the reality.
Mammograms on women under 40 are virtually unreadable due to the tissue density. Typically younger women are given an ultrasound & sometimes a biopsy & even an MRI
@@recoil53 Yes insurance companies make us doctors jump through hoops trying to justify why a test or treatment is medically necessary for patients. Trust me, it really frustrates us and it angers us for our patients that we care a lot about.
I also want to say, don't believe that if a lump is sore it's not cancer. My mum put off her mammogram for 3 months because her doctor said if it hurts, it's not cancerous. WRONG!!!!! It is rare, but not uncommon. By the time we got her diagnosis she was at stage 3. My mum had an operation to remove the lump and 2 lymph nodes, she had chemo and radiation and my husband and I nursed her through all of it. Luckily we are in Australia and have have cheaper and easier access to healthcare, my mum kicked cancer in the tit 2 years ago and she is doing awesome now. Please, if you feel something isn't right with your body and you don't think your doctor is taking it seriously get a second opinion. If mum had of put off her mammogram any longer, she may not be here right now. Please check your breasts, get your pap smears, just get them done. As woman we have to go through some uncomfortable things sometimes, but 5 minutes of discomfort could literally save your life. So please, check your breasts and take care of yourself 😘
Oh honey, I just got diagnosed last week with breast cancer in my right breast. I am so terrified of what is in my future. I am alomost 56 years old and have not led a healthy life. I don't want to die. I am so scared.
Imagine if she was 19 and black, too. I’m so glad that she is okay and that she was finally able to find a good doctor. She told this story so beautifully.
My moms good friend got breast cancer at 19. She got treated and cured but it came back. It ended up getting to her bones and then she died in December of 2019.
American’s healthcare system really upsets me, I’m a student midwife training in a nationalised health system, and the thought of being sick and no affording treatment is unimaginable, because healthcare is a guarantee here. I hope the system can improve for the US
As a 22 year old breast cancer survivor, hearing her story about so many doctors turning her away makes me SO ANGRY. I am so sad that this is the world we live in - being worried about finances when you should be focused on staying alive, and having to fight to be taken seriously as a young woman. Ugh.
My story is somewhat similar but I was a first gen student going to a HUGE school with a horrible college experience and not knowing what was happening and why I was so sick. Got diagnosed and everything felt in slow motion. Dropped out of college and fell into horrible depression and somehow dug myself out of that hole with support of my mom and 3 siblings and my 5 friends. And finished my AA in biology and I mean I’ve had 3 lumpectomies since and have to get checked every 6 months but hey! Still here 👌🏽
I used to have excruciating migraine everyday, it was so bad that it paralyses me. I went to a specialist and requested for a scan. Doctor told me “everyone gets migraine, not a big deal”. I felt a lump on my breast and went to a specialist and requested for a scan as well. Doctor told me I’m very young and do not have family history for breast cancer, so it should be fine. For both instances, I fought against the doctor and INSISTED to get scanned. Fortunately it was nothing. But what if it is??
I was told by one doctor my low thyroid disorder “went away” (it never goes away) and was told by another I didn’t have it at all. I referenced the results of the test they did as proof my thyroid was low and he said the same “if you’re concerned you can see a specialist” so I did and guess what- they confirmed I do have low thyroid and its life-long. Sad how common it is that the patients know more than the doctors.
Everytime I have had any concerns, even when I was not so concerned the Dr's have come through for me. Until I got a serious back problem "That didn't happen to someone my age" This is a problem for people/women in the medical system. Ps as a Canadian my heart goes out to you I have never had to worry about medical bills and have had a lot of medical things happen to me. In my financial lifetime I could not have afforded any of the surgeries that I have needed. I am thankful to live in a country that while the taxes are high we also live with the comfort that if something happens it will not decimate our families. If I would have been born in America and with all the things my body has needed medically I would have died along time ago and left my family broke.
After your period, each month, women over 20 years of age with or without family history of breast cancer should do a breast self-examination. Love to everyone out there 💗

Yeah, doctors aren't known for listening to the point where there are all sorts of videos telling you to advocate for yourself.
My mom is a BC survivor & this hurts me so much.. People’s health concerns need to be taken into consideration with rigid examination. I can’t believe they told her it was nothing... I’m glad u beat this. God bless.
I was asked if I was pregnant and sent home with a “bladder infection” AT THE AGE OF 8 YEARS OLD after going to the hospital with severe and debilitating abdominal pain... went back to the hospital that night to find out that my appendix had ruptured... emergency surgery, almost died. Please listen to your body and never give up fighting for the care you know you deserve!!
Oh I know her, the meteorologist girl, I hope she gets better
Meatierologist
I was diagnosed at 24 colon cancer. Being young and sick is the biggest hurdle to overcome. I'm glad to see her story shared!
How are you doing
I had my first mammogram at 16. I recieved the info that I had fat lumps too. Until age 36, when a tumor was found, mindboggling but it also took me 6 months, 3 biopsies to finally hear that the tumor was non cancerous yet needs to be checked ever year because of breast cancer in the family. We need more videos like this to break taboo! Thank you for sharing.
Sue that doctor
He probably partied and slept through his studies
I'm only 25 but I've had an irrational fear that I'm going to get breast cancer and will have to get a double mastectomy. I do self checks a lot, but I don't know what a lump/tumor will feel like because I feel like all of my tissue is kinda lumpy
I have the same issue. I have health anxiety and am constantly doing self checks, but I have no idea if a small bump here or there is normal or something to be concerned about. I also have fibroids due to PCOS so...there's lots of lumps in that region! It's definitely a struggle, and I always talk myself out of going to the doctor because I don't want to be that crazy hypochondriac.
im 18 and my breast tissue is lumpy but i found a small benign tumor a few weeks ago and its very noticable. youd know if it was there
It is VERY noticeable and tumors are typically fixed and hard. If it’s soft and squishy and moveable it’s more likely a cyst or fatty tissue.
You should go to the doctor if your breast are lumpy. You have higher chances of getting it so they can know and be cautious at least
@@biancadesousa Yes I've been trying to get in with a doctor about that and PCOS in general because I'm higher risk for a lot of things because of it, unfortunately they've not been very helpful about it.
So proud of you for being your own advocate. Stay well sweet lady.
OMG so glad your here telling us your story. Just know you are helping everyone.
Sometimes you have to be your own advocate and keep fighting till you get the help you need.
Eliza I'm also 23 had a breast cancer scare at 21 and thank the universe ever day the tests came back as benign (non cancerous) breast lumps on thrusday August 23 2018, I occasionally write in comments and get stories like yours to as many people as possible because if there's any boubt in your mind something is wrong people should go to the doctor to see if there's a problem my mental health suffered the most because I was in denial the first week that the weird little lump that was causing slight pain, that I found in the right side of my chest wasn't normal, and then had to wait another 5 days going to appointments and getting tests done to find out if it was breast cancer or not.
@@fleabaggu an ultrasound, I found out something wasn't right because there was a strange pain that always came from the same spot in the top of my right breast did a self examination and found a small hard lump on that side that wasn't on the other, with the ultrasound they found 3 others that where much smaller so I hadn't found myself
@@fleabaggu because I'm young they didn't do a mammogram if it wasn't necessary if there was further concerns they would have
@@fleabaggu if you don't mind me asking, how old where you i like hearing peoples storys since cancer scares and anixety about the very common daises isint often what you here, its the survivors stories which is good but being caught in somewhere in the middle where you cant entirely relate to either side, is a very weird feeling, my grandmother is a survivor of stage 2 breast cancer because of that i knew some of the things that needed to happen like self examining but also was a very serious part of the anxiety and concern because of teh family history
I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY WOULD JUST WRITE YOU OFF LIKE THAT. I AM SO GLAD YOU MADE IT THROUGH THAT JOURNEY, AND I HOPE AND PRAY ALL THE BEST FOR YOU.
I’m so SICK of doctors saying “you’re too young” I copped the same thing, if it wasn’t for my current doctor right now, I would be dead because of doctors like that. Turned out I had Leukemia... an aggressive blood cancer.
🙏🏿
Your in my prayers and thank you for being so transparent on this topic! God Bless💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾❤❤❤
Omg I hope you're doing so much better! You're my favorite ❤️
Noone should feel like a burden! You're beautiful and loved❤️
absolute chills! what a sweet individual
Thank you As/Is for sharing this story! I hope no one else has to go through something like this 😞
I've been seeing and hearing stories like this, where the physician would normally dismiss something immediately without doing a thorough (i mean all possible) medical exams to justify their thoughts.
Shes so strong🥺 i hope shes doing alright
Aww she’s so pretty! I’m having to get an ultrasound of my breasts for pain next week and I’m terrified. I’m 25 myself and never had to do it. But girls like her keep me positive
Going for one today. Hope your results were fine.
Yep we figured out the cause something I'd never heard of called ductal ectasia. Luckily it is benign. Prayers for good results for you!
You have a lot of courage to overcome this ordeal!
I don't know you, but I am so proud of you! You are strong girl ❤️ sending love from Germany
I recognized her face right away
This makes me feel that need though, thank you Eliza.
i’m going to get checked out now, and i’m hoping they listen to me
I found a squishy lump in my right armpit pretty close to breast tissue and I get my first mammogram (along with ultrasound imaging) at 24 next Friday.
I’m literally going through this , but under my left boob i feel a lump and under my right boob it’s pretty sold instead of squishy instead of soft .
i hope your doing well! we are all here for you ❤️❤️
This is amazing and I pray that they will find a cure. May God be with us all!!🙏💕❤
I knew I recognized you!!! Love you hope you are doing better.❤️❤️❤️
Those other doctors and technicians need to be held accountable.
The family doctor needs to be looked into. Just because she was persistent doesn't mean the other women would be too. It could be lethal for several other woman if this "doctor" is treating them.
You ARE an inspiration! Thank you for sharing this journey with us, you go lady! ✨❤️✨
Damn, that must have been horrible. I'm glad that she's doing better now
If I got breast cancer or any hectic sickness I'd honestly just give up cuz there is no way my family would be able to afford treatment. But I'm rly glad that things worked out for you🤗👍
Hope you're ok Cancer sucks hope your ok
I found a lump 2 months ago, I’m only 17... I dreaded going to the doctor so I only went last week. My doctor told me that it was just a cyst, but I need to do a mammogram to be sure. While it’s probably a disease called mastopathy (which is harmless btw), it’s still really scary!!! Don’t be like me and go to the doctor immediately, you’ll feel so much less stress :) (I’m also not American, so worrying about financial stuff isn’t really there for me)
(edit) So because I'm only 18 (now), I had to do an echo instead of a mammogram. It wasn't matopathy, but a breast fibroadenoma. It's nothing, but it gave a lot of stress (and hypochondria)
was the lump painful? I'm 18 too and have noticed that my left breast experiences more pain than the other. I'm glad it went well for you!
As a doctor, if there is a lump, and it doesn't come and go with periods, our practice is to do a breast US, no matter the age.
I am so sorry that this has happened, I hope you are doing well. I give you my prayers.
Stay safe.
Imagine if she was 19 and black, too.
I’m so glad that she is okay and that she was finally able to find a good doctor. She told this story so beautifully.
Did anyone else cop a feel when they saw Cara 😂 ladies go on give yourself a quick check! Thanks Eliza for the video wishing you all the best hun!
Nice to meet you honey
Sorry you are going through all this
Hugs
My moms good friend got breast cancer at 19. She got treated and cured but it came back. It ended up getting to her bones and then she died in December of 2019.
Best of luck to you! 🙏
Ugh.
@@miakei0819 me too 13. how are you right now
Am I grateful to have a good healthcare system in my country? Yes maam
That’s so awful, wow what an experience. So much negligence.
Still here 👌🏽
I knew before I got a mammogram that I had fibrocystic breasts, but I wanted to be absolutely sure.
Hope for the best for her .
I hope you brought that up to the imaging center that turned you away so that they won’t do this to someone else. Sorry you had to go through this.
Such an amazing soul💛
Glad u got through this lady
Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is so important
Mrs liza its me from the school you were the librarian
I Hope you get better soon❤️❤️❤️❤️
Y’all need universal health care
This makes me have soo much concern considering my grandmother had breast cancer and had both brests removed, now checking my own for anything sus
These doctors need to be known so us women don’t see them this is ridiculous these “health providers” they need their license taken away
Thank youuu! 💛💛💛
Good that you trust your instincts!!!
Thank you this is so helpful!!!!!!!!!
Can’t she sue the original family doctor for misdiagnosis and the technician for refusing her service?
METEOR!!!!!! luv u queen
Meteor? Metier🥺❤️
I am one year and one month into breast cancer treatment and i’m already up to $775, 000. I have great insurance, too.
