i love this fight with the faron greatsword, as using its L1 allows you to just duck underneath some moves or use the initial movement of the L1 to maneuver yourself into a safe spot while also counter attacking, its great fun
In my last run of DS3 I had used Large Club's Charged R2 against Gael. The experience was very hilarious: the attack animation is very goofy, fully charged R2 often staggers him in one hit and it also has a decent amount of hyperarmor
He isn't very difficulty and complex Boss, which is why he appeals to so many people and you will basically never see anyone saying "I don't like Gael". He is very accessible Boss that you can make a little harder on some challenges, if you want.
I usually play him on challenge runs and he can be difficult b/c of the length of the fight and the ease of slipping up once especially in phase 2 and 3
People like to praise Gael to the limits. He is really great Boss and one of the best without doubt, but I would like to emphasize one particularly bad thing about him (in my opinion): duration of stagger on Gael is stupidly short. You broke his posture 10 or 11 times in this fight and you haven't got a single additional hit as reward. Given how massive is HP of Gael, I think this is illogical design choice. Either way, fantastic showcase and fight. GG🎉
@@rigorm136 probably because he could run out of stamina (DS3 stamina system isn't anywhere near forgiving as Elden Ring) and Gael very often does quick swing right after stagger, or he was too far from Gael. I still think he should have much longer duration of stagger, just like Dancer, Pontiff, Gundyr or Dragonslayer Armour for instance.
@@suchar7175 I’ve never had trouble with stamina in ds3. He just simply put wasn’t pressing r1 often enough or he was brainlessly spamming the weapon art on the twin princes greatsword so he couldn’t capitalize on the stagger
@@rigorm136 yeah, stamina is good enough in DS3, just not as good as in ER. I fought Gael few times with Ultra Greatswords and I wasn't able to capitalize on stagger completely safely, but we are talking about the slowest weapon class in the game, so I guess in this case I need to accept that stagger offers me only a time for regen stamina and re-positioning myself.👍 Imo Gael should've just had more poise and simple stagger system, like Nameless King or Demon Prince and that would be perfect for me.
@@suchar7175 Well the thing about gael, at least in his first phase, is that any attack that does knockdown / pancake / burger flip will stagger him regardless of poise damage dealt which helps for those heavy weapons and encourages using fully charged r2s
Which NG cycle are you on? His health barely changes from cycle to cycle (atleast upto like NG+3), so I am curious. Also if possible drop the stats for your build.
@@ivanchaki372Radahn is not better than Gael bro. Even after the nerf he still isn’t interesting. Malenia also has random hyper armor bullshit that prevents her from being staggered by anything even if her poise goes below zero while she’s in hyper armor frames. Neither of them are good bosses and are only difficult because of their artificially inflated difficulty. (Waterfowl / unbreakable hyper armor and pre-nerf cross slash)
Idk to each their own but imo ER surpassed Gael several times over. I mean, just from a mechanical standpoint Margit is better imo although not overall. Seriously though, Maliketh, Morgott, Radagon, Godfrey and Mohg are all better. Rellana and Messmer from the DLC are also better. Just my opinion of course but I think Gael is pretty overrated even though I like him quite a lot.
@@Z3d195 I mean it's all subjective and I can definitely see why people love him he's very simple and cinematic which makes him very popular among casuals (most of the fanbase). I'm not saying my take is right just different.
After beating Elden Ring, Gael was one the many hyped up bosses in Souls series and he is one of the only bosses that matched the hype

Switching between a poison dagger and bandit knife is my favorite way to fight Gael.

Masterfully done.
Does anyone else find Gael too easy? (Although cool as hell)

His stagger duration is just long enough to get an extra r1 in but he wasn’t capitalizing on it for some reason.

He also seems better on higher NG cycles since he lives a looot longer.
It def is better. Makes me wish I hadn’t just spammed R1 the whole time when fighting him

Journey 5; 50 in strength, dex, and int
Was really hoping for a Gael-tier boss in elden ring, closest we got was Bayle which was still outstanding though
I'd say there are 3 which surpassed Gael in ER. Malenia, Messmer, and post patch Radahn.
