Excellent, I checked my fuel trims after finding several vacuum leaks including a cracked Valve Cover! Still had P0174 my trims got much higher at 3k which confirmed I had no more leaks but likely dirty injectors. Thanks!
Excellent video. Really appreciate you breaking down the different lean conditions to determine whether its a vacuum leak, fuel delivery or Mass Airflow Sensor. Great stuff! Thank you!
This is a nice very well done clean pressurized safe clever piece of guidance teaching the simple way to deal with clogged injectors that I've even imagined to see.
If you ever do have the time to perform the AC Delco engine compression restore, I have been meaning to do this for a while but I even spoke to mechanics that advise against it. But if it works, I would greatly like that video. Your videos are awesome.
There is usually filters inserted in the top of the injectors, which can be replaced. T he injectors can be reversed and cleaner comes out of the input. Very handy setup for regular cleaning.
You are the best for me. I just understand completely Combustion ratio relation between vacuum leak or fuel delivery system. Can you please answer my simple question. I have 2bank engine, ban1, bank 2 both reading :long term 25% . Short term - 0.8 on idle speed. Increase speed reading almost the same. Question is is this fuel delivery issue or vacuum leak. Thank you sir.
Just a few days ago I was looking on the tube for a cheap/good way to clean the injectors. I follow your channel and didn't see this video yet. It's great, If I need some kind of explanation for anything related to my car here it is. Like some people have already said: would love to see a video on putting the cleaner into the pistons. You mentioned it also in your oil compsumption video. Thank you for the channel.
Question, I followed all the repairs for vacuum leaks and did a smoke test and no longer have leaks. I replaced the fuel filter regulator and fuel pump even put the check valve you recommended. Still have the codes. Fuel trim is at 27.3% short term at idle and when at 3000rpm it is at 27.3% when I let go of the gas it drops to 0% then slowly climbs. When I gas it rushes back to 27.3% I drove it for about 60 miles and I noticed that I don't get long term fuel adjustments. I don't know what direction if I need a MAF, fuel injector clean, oxygen sensors, or an exhaust leak.
Can i put it in a spray bottle as you have used for compress it, and conect it to my car hose that conects the fuel filter and start the car.? Will it be secure to do this thing?
My Injectors were so clogged that my car wouldn't fire up even after cleaning them with brake clean clamped on the the injectors kinda like this. But this method worked! My car fired right up, must be the added pressure of the sprayer, I also back flushed them first. Took a couple hours to do 6. Thanks for posting this!
Hey I have e46 x drive both of my wheels shift back and forth when fully turned either way checked it on a lift found everything is tight but passenger side wheel is shifted back about an inch
hello i got a problem with my n42n18a engine.. during cold weather my fuel pump went bad so i replaced it. and now when i start the car it sounds and feels like it running on 3 cylinders. my obd 2 reader says misfire on cyl. 4 fuel cut off. i changed spark plugs and spark plug coils. could it be bad injector on cyl 4 then ? or is there anything else that could fail ?
What if your bank 1 STFT differs from bank 2STFT? Bank 1 is normal (0% STFT ~7% LTFT) while bank 2 is always 27% STFT and 0% LTFT. No vacuum leaks, car runs fine at idle and acceleration. I am torn between injectors and 02 sensors with codes P1085 and P0174 on a 2003 325i.
Hey 50sKid I have an interesting problem with condensation in my e46 330xi 3L engine and I can’t find any videos on how to clean the residues left in the CCV lines after doing an oil change. Can you help? I know you’d probably suggest just getting new ones but that’s out of my budget at the moment
You can take them out and rinse them out with brake clean. But, yes, you might as well get a new set for $45 on eBay and install it. If you don't have that money, you shouldn't be driving this car man ;-)
50sKid okay so brake cleaner works fine and yea I know I had 2 of my other cars break down at the same time so I can’t do maintenance on all of them at the moment lol just wanted to know what I could do to clean them thanks for the tip
What video are you talking about when you said the acdelco as been shown to clean gunked up piston rings? I really want to watch that for instructions. Thanks
Can you use diesel kleen using the same method? Just wondering as I would think it would have better results using this method instead of putting diesel Kleen in the fuel tank on account I can't get my hands on any of the ACDelco stuff also cheaper
Will this work with high pressure injectors? How about piezo injectors, will that tester still work on piezo injectors or do you need a different tool?
I tried and it did not. The N54/N63/N72 injectors run at ~1000PSI idle, ~3000PSI at high RPMs. Although the tester was able to trigger the injector, no cleaner passed through the injector which I suspect is because the tank could only supply ~30PSI.
Hey 50skid I have a problem with my 2004 325ci. first cylinder is not firing at all.. I tested it by disconnecting the ignition coil from the first cylinder 1 and nothing happened.. I recently change all ignition coil and spark plugs and it still not firing.. tested the ignition coil wiring harness for the first cylinder and the rest of them and they were all receiving power. Now I think I might have a clog injector in the first cylinder and I don’t know really how to remove them.. I need your advice.. and yes I do have a misfire
50sKid, are there any alternatives to the Acdelco upper engine cleaner? I'm trying to get my 330xi second cylinder to stop misfiring. I've gone through some other videos of yours to get to this point. Thanks!
Hello Jason, nice and thorough video. It looks like about 10-15 lbs of pressure you pumped in the tank, which I think it’s sufficient.. I was wondering if you have any thought on using the BMW genuine fuel injector cleaner concentrate. The color looks green like the ACDelco, but it costs much less. Thanks,
Hi 50's kid. My '03 E46 has much higher fuel trim on bank 2 vs bank 1. Consistent delta at idle and driving as seen by obd logs LTFT b2 pegged at +10% unless WOT.Changed vcg, fuel filter, intake boots, DISA Oring, cleaned IAC, brake booster one way valve and gasket. Injectors not touched yet. Ideas?
Today I also changed the 3 end caps on the back of the intake, replaced brake booster hose, and f connector hoses too. LTFT b1: 7 LTFTb2;~9.5. Injectors have never been off. Seems like injector O rings maybe?
I never got around fixing negative fuel trims on wife's ex-330i. New fuel pump, with filter with regulator (all in one version), new pre-cat O2 sensors, and finally new MAF. At idle both long term for both banks maxes out in negative. O2 wiring is connected properly and wire have very little resistance between O2 connectors and ecu connector. Figured ECU would be the last stop, but spare ecu also reported maxed out negative long term trims. Short term were at +- 0% at idle. To this day haven't figured it out. Getting shit MPG in low 14, sometimes high 15 on freeways. I will be dammed if injectors are leaking, but I am done spending on this car.
I just did my DISA with the GSA aluminum upgrade kit for M54 3.0L and my MPG's increased dramatically. I went from 146 miles at half a tank to 203 at half a tank. When I took out the DISA the silicone sealant was flush with the housing making for a really bad vacuum leak, after upgrading the DISA I noticed when I put it back in the slot I had to push the Valve in because the O-ring that came with the kit made a tight seal.
Actually already have new DISA because the old one had a non-existent flap. However, checked the fuel trims today and long term are at 0% and short term are about -7% both banks. Very odd as this was not the case couple weeks ago, regardless, mileage is still crap. More and more I begin to suspect that someone messed with the engine and got the timing off by one chain link maybe, or this is just a side effect of valve train noise/knock.
Long term at 0% and short term are roughly -7% on both banks at idle or at various steady engine speeds (tried 2k and 3.5k rpm). This is not what I was seeing after installing new MAF and driving car for couple days. At that time long term were maxed out in negative and short were at zero. That meant that engine was cutting off fuel, right?
I have the ELM, and I can’t even view my fuel trims. I have tried I don’t know how many times and it says there are none. Always getting codes saying it’s running lean and can no longer adjust fuel mixtures. I have a 2002 BMW Z3 3.0. I have done so much and still have the same issue. Just runs rough, and has a random shimmy at idle that clears up when driven. Checked pretty much every hose I can get to, and they’re all fine. I’m starting to think it’s the injectors, or either low compression.
Hey! I have a 99 323i (e46) and I have 200k miles on it with no issues, do you think it's time for a timing chain job? I am thinking the plastic guides are destroyed but I have no noise or anything. Thank you for being the best source of e46 info!
Timing chains are rattly when worn and theres no mistaking the noise. With regular oil and filter maintenance, there should not be a problem. However for peace of mind, the tensioner could be changed with an oem brand if possible.
Haha be careful with your rubbers Jason! Would love to see a video on putting the cleaner into the pistons. Not sure it would be an option on my M43 as its tilted sideways and the spark plugs are on the side but these videos are interesting. Thanks for sharing :)
the inline 6 is slanted the same way--you just put a bunch of it in, doesn't take that much. This is really only for when your compression drops to 0 and you get misfires--because the top compression ring has gotten stuck into the ring land.
Ah okay. I don't need it done, I just find it interesting:) I can't wait till spring weather arrives and I can start tinkering on my cars again! I'm starting to twitch haha
Mine failed at 200k miles and started leaking fuel into engine mixing with oil so ..got code p1093 rich condition pre cat sensor bank 2 All injectors had to be replaced oil drained and changed asap so no damage to internal parts of engine occur as oil become super thin and smelled like gas
yeah I never said you should do that, though. The real fuel injector cleaner tool involves disconnecting the fuel line from the fuel rail and connecting the tool to the rail
When the rubber slips off , time for plan B LOL 😂 !! Classic
DeathRoww 45 😂
Excellent, I checked my fuel trims after finding several vacuum leaks including a cracked Valve Cover! Still had P0174 my trims got much higher at 3k which confirmed I had no more leaks but likely dirty injectors. Thanks!

Hello my name is Dr. Greenthumb...... Best man on TH-cam.....
Whatchoo lookin' at ese?? Don't you know I'm loco?? (ok, different song, I admit--but I love that line)
I have one of those pressure bleeders do you have to put in a hose on the bottom to pick up the solution ? You didn't go into that
There is usually filters inserted in the top of the injectors, which can be replaced. T he injectors can be reversed and cleaner comes out of the input. Very handy setup for regular cleaning.
Excellent explanation of the vacuum process.
I have the style of injector that takes in fuel from four holes on the side of the injector. How would I clean that style?
Is there a particular code that will come up due to clogged injectors?
Any advice on what I should do for a p0313 code? 04 330i
You are the best for me.

excellent video. Will there be a circuit for pulse generators for common rail injectors?
My Injectors were so clogged that my car wouldn't fire up even after cleaning them with brake clean clamped on the the injectors kinda like this.

dude your set up is basic simple and bad ass!!!!
Hey I have e46 x drive both of my wheels shift back and forth when fully turned either way checked it on a lift found everything is tight but passenger side wheel is shifted back about an inch
that was pretty sweet class about the fuel trims and what's at fault thanks
Could you use SeaFoam or Berrymans B12 as a Cleaner?

WD40 is designed to disperse water, literally in the name; Water Displacement formula# 40
What about pre catalytic rich condition bank 2 p1093 have anyone found the fix 04 Xi 2.5l
Hi sir whats the input voltage for injector for testing thanks
What video are you talking about when you said the acdelco as been shown to clean gunked up piston rings? I really want to watch that for instructions. Thanks
This is what comes up when I search TH-cam for "e46 compression acdelco" th-cam.com/video/_Vo4fm0JDPY/w-d-xo.html
Can you use diesel kleen using the same method? Just wondering as I would think it would have better results using this method instead of putting diesel Kleen in the fuel tank on account I can't get my hands on any of the ACDelco stuff also cheaper

Is $60 bucks about typical for the ACDelco cleaner. I'm seeing some crazy prices all over the place for it. It's difficult to find.
I Don't have any of this. Can I put the product Inside my tank and drive the car normaly? Will it clean? cause it sais that it works this way..
Anyone knows an alternative to AC Delco cleaner available also elsewhere than US?
I'm sure every country must sell some sort of fuel injector cleaner.
yes but I suspect those are all just some sort of colored lighter gasolene fraction with no real effect :)
Hey 50skid I have a problem with my 2004 325ci. first cylinder is not firing at all.. I tested it by disconnecting the ignition coil from the first cylinder 1 and nothing happened.. can i monitor fuel trims with carly?
Very cool! Neat MacGyver hack mechanic type stuff! Keep up the good work!

any videos on the timing chain tensioner change? I have 180k on mine so this sounds like a good preventative maintenance thing to do.
Did you notice an improvement in performance after cleaning the Fuel Injectors?
Would a short ram intake make my car idle like crap?

What should decent compressions be across the board. What is considered bad?
Is a change from 4% to 0% going from 700 to 3000 rpm good?
no need to worry about a thing, that's perfect

Clogged injectors can also cause misfires
Maybe
Excellent video! thanks for sharing knowledge..
Thanks for the vid. Got some juicy information from this.
you are good Tech teacher thanks
Great “class” on fuel trim, thanks!
when the rubber slips its time for plan b lol
Grate explanations
Most petrol injectors see 9v. Not 12v, 12 is too much current and can damage the coil.
Excellent video, thanks for posting.
Great video! Will be doing this to my car
Great video , thanks for the fast reply 🤘🏽
do you have an instagram account? i would like to share a video with you, in hopes to resolve this issue going on.
Great video....great knowledge
Very good video thanks
Thanks great video
Thank you so much
Jason!! You should come back to TH-cam making bmw videos again!!
Nice! Thank You.
Good video
160 bucks for that cleaner. I don't think so. Lacquer thinner is 20 bucks a gallon and works a lot better. Just keep it away from non metal material.
Lol 😆 cracked me up!
Good stuff, thanks!
Can you do video how to clean your BMW. I want to get it good looking and I'm sure alot of others want theirs clean too
Bmw M3 e46 sweet project cars channel, guy is a legend
Soap and water helps
I wish you were in salamanca (spain)
is this the same as BMW Fuel injection and induction cleaner? part number 82140428376, it's in the same bottle and same color
That is one clogged FI.
LOL "When the rubber slips off its time for plan b"
If you dump fuel injector cleaner in a bmw gastank, you will clog the filter in 5 mins, plan on changing the filter
yeah I never said you should do that, though. The real fuel injector cleaner tool involves disconnecting the fuel line from the fuel rail and connecting the tool to the rail
I have used SeaFoam in my gas about every 10K miles and have not have an issue with clogged fuel filters.
I have used chevron techron cleaner in my e60 gas tank and had no issues.
great video great jokes haha!
My man , can I mail you a 6 pack ?
I thought that injectors ran under 12 V like five volts or something
+The Mechanist nope, 12v, ground side switched
The cleaning starts at 10:40. I dont need a class.
What did I just watch ? Sorry I fell asleep 3 minutes in
No No No No your way never can clean injectors
Good. You just talk too much and wast time
Good effort, but i didnt understand anything 😂
