Great video and much appreciated. Spent many a night at the Joe Dodge Lodge, until it became too expensive. Now we stay in North Conway. And, by the way, there once was a fellow who was their head cook at the visitor center, Haven't heard from him in a few years, but he still remains a friend. He had the longest tenure with the Appalachian Mountain Club, until his retirement. He was with them longer even than Joe Dodge, himself. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
Well, I'm feeling home state pride this morning. 😊 2 Maine hostels made Molly's list! You're doing an incredible job with these hiker resource videos. 👏 If you ever retire Mojo as a trail name, P.C. should be the next. P.C. = privacy curtain 😂 Have a spledid new year, and thank you for the wonderful content. ✌️
Thanks for this review. Very helpful. I spent one night at the Around the Bend Hostel. I had the Judge’s Room. Very comfortable and private. Owner was nice. Getting a ride to the hostel from High Tower Gap was most helpful but expensive. The Green Dragon is tops. Spent two nights there. Very pleasant, comfortable, and the shuttles to trail heads or town was great. I hope Ziggy has succeeded. May you a New Year full of wonderful adventures, peace, good health, and good fortune. Wishing you a mighty fine life. Happy Trails!
Thank you 1024 Pete! Everyone gets the names of hostels confused. The Judge's Room is at Above the Clouds Hostel. But you are correct, Lucky (out hostel big brother) is so great!
@@GreenDragonHostel Thanks. And thanks again for your hospitality. It was a very pleasant experience! Best wishes for the New Year! May the path of prosperity lead to your door. Wishing you peace and good fortune!
Thanks for another great Molly-made presentation! And what's with all the introverts making the best and most personable thru-hike vlogs?😉From what I've seen from following many AT thru-hikers on TH-cam, almost all hostel experiences are shown in a positive light. That being said, did you ever encounter a hostile hostel?
It seems like on-site resupply is a huge advantage so you don’t have to find a town or store if you don’t want to. Hopefully prices were reasonable on resupply items!
Thanks for the video. The Maine Roadhouse and the Jens are the best-#1. Shaws is cool because its the last or first depending on your direction- and yes the reputation of service is well deserved.
Most hostels accept credit card or Venmo. If they are cash only, they usually tell you ahead of time on FatOut. Some hostels gave you the option to tip, but I wouldn’t say it was expected.
I used a GoPro hero 10 to film and did all my editing with iMovie on my iPhone 14. This worked really well for me! Let me know if you have any other questions.
@ Great info and thank you. How did you transfer the video from GoPro to iPhone. Do I need a card reader or could you do it some other way. So sorry to bother you.
@@chalampakala9788I’m happy to answer your questions! I used this card reader: amzn.to/3BSzmoO I also have a video going over my whole vlogging process if you want to check that out! th-cam.com/video/FIBnrroFMnk/w-d-xo.html
A lot of the hostels accepted credit card and if not, they usually had Venmo. The ones that were cash only usually said that on FarOut so you knew ahead of time. I tired to keep some cash on hand just in case. You do need cash to pay for camping at the AMC shelters/campsites in the Whites.
I have both the cnoc blue and bigger orange bag. Did you find the blue bag big enough for the entire hike? I want to take the blue! Also… in the hiker bubble I’ve heard to book hostels 2 days ahead. Do they get back quickly or do you message a couple hostels at once to increase odds of booking a bunk?
I used a 2 liter cnoc water bag the whole trail and it worked great! At the beginning, you’ll want to try and book hostels a few days in advance if you can.
I stayed at probably more than 20 hostels over the course of my thru hike. My top 7 were almost exactly in line with Mojo's, with the one exception being the Green Dragon, only because I didn't stay there, but it seems pretty awesome. As far as bad hostels, I only had one experience that I'd consider bad, and maybe a few other that I'd consider disappointing. They all try in their own way, some more than others, and it definitely shows. The reviews on FarOut are usually pretty accurate for identifying hostels that have different vibes. Some hikers gravitate toward party hostels that are louder, and less well kept, while other hikers may gravitate toward hostels that have more rules or guidelines. I prefer not to mention specific hostels that I found to be unsavory, since that may have more to do with my personal preferences, where other hikers would not have any complaints.
This is Jeff from Green Mountain House. So glad you were happy with your stay with us.
Enjoyed seeing the other hostels in your video.

More good information. Thank you.

What great and educational video!!😅 It was a lot of fun to watch!! 😅 It's amazing all different ways hostels were created and run !!😊

Maine has some of the best hostels for sure! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you Molly for sharing. Happy New Year to you, your husband, and dog.
Enjoying your videos so much Mojo. Very helpful for any AT hiker. Keep them coming!
Thanks! I’m glad you’re finding them helpful!
Thank you Molly!!! We loved having you at our hostel!

We heard rumors of a guy who had a hostel in PA who was creepy especially to single female hikers. We stayed clear of it.

Fabulous hostel video! The best!

Thanks for your advice .

great reviews, hope you and your family have a wonderful new year.

Very interesting. Good video. Was wondering is there any hostels that are cash only? Are tips expected? do people tip?

What camera did you use and also what software did you use to post your videos. Great info and I am planning to do in 2026

Molly - curious to how you paid for these Hostels - did they only take cash ? Thanks in advance if you get to answer this.

@ - Thanks Molly - it’s really interesting to see how all that works.

@ I saw you fill the blue trimmed CNoc bag in the video; isn’t that a 1 liter? Isn’t orange the 2 liter?
Not to be negative but were there any hostels that were really bad.
