Enjoyed your video. From experience you need the laser parallel to the barrel. I use this set up for judging short range holdover all the time. Not promoting my channel but worth a look. Great opportunity for someone to come up with nano laser with remote (near trigger) control. I have it but it is by no means nano (additional weight).
So, you are using, what they sometimes call, a laser designator, AND a laser sight? Is your air pistol possibly a Crosman 2240? Have you nailed some rats yet? I also shoot rats at night, as they like to go into our chicken coop also, and eat the remaining chicken food. I have been using an air rifle, at 10-11 yards, and a small red led flashlight. Got about 12 in 2015 in about two month of going out a couple of nights a week. Mostly, it's just sitting in the dark. The red led light makes their eyes glow very brightly. But, I have just been using a 4 power airgun rifle scope with crosshairs.
Depends on the rats and what they are used to. Their color perception is weak, and biased toward blue/uv. I believe red is superior, because they have no red cones, their eyes reflect red light brightly, and deep red allows humans to maintain vision in the dark, where other wavelengths will require a few minutes to readjust.
A great vid, so much fun. Some good ideas there too. Thank you.

Wont the light scare off the rats?
No it doesn't seem to, if you don't shine it in their eyes. It scares birds. / Charlie
Red or green light doesn't scare them only bright white light scares them!!!
