Good evening FieldSports - Please keep the videos coming! I love the fact that you have created clear videos with a low budget. You have proven that you don't have to break the bank to have fun and kick some butt. Great work family. Lol
It's funny reading the comments about getting a cat. I had a HUGE cat, and this thing was so vicious it would tackle and maul large dogs. Even this brutal animal had a hard time of large rats, and was frequently getting bitten and hurt by them (on his paws). Not to mention, any time he killed something too big for him to eat, or a rat that tasted funny, he would leave their organs strewn all over the floor. It once took me 10 minutes just to find all the parts of a rat he caught. It is much cleaner, faster and humane to shoot them. Mice are a different story however.
My ferrets have a hard time with rats including by big hob, could he can not turn in their holes so he got bit on the ass a lot. Now days I just use mark 4 fen traps to get the f**kers.
I used to have like 50 rats running around everywhere. I got 1 cat, she gave babies and then thing continues. Now I've got 18 cats and No mice.. But to feed 18 cats, 3 times a day.. GOD!! I should have gotten an air rifle instead..
Nice hardware hack. Real-time night vision, inbuilt video monitor, plus the ability to record the action. I also like the fact that once the scope has been sighted-in, it's a simple matter to switch between daytime and night vision use.
boiledoctopus The word rodent comes from the latin "rodere", which translates as "to gnaw". Well suited name. I am a professional pest controller and see the damage they cause. Only good rat is a dead rat.
I was wanting to get an air rifle so I can do this at my place. Until I saw the prices of IR equipment. Now I'm back in the game! Thanks for making this!
how does someone "dislike" this video?...that there is a great time! and you gotta love the ingenuity to make a cheaper alternative NV scope and camera. Loved the teamwork and background music.
how crazy, I've only just seen this clip, and the fact that I got a mention on it, many thanks I feel famous, I like that set up as presumably it gives you the option to record too, now a woodland owner so lots of squirrels to control,
I'd also only use 1:77, goes faster, and stays straighter/longer distance on fire than the 2:2. Air Rifle. HW85, One Piece Sport Match Mounts, Air Whisperer Silencer, Tasco 3 -9 x 50. Though not got a clue about night vision, as banned from using air rifles since 1984. Long story, don't ask....Paul.
Reminds me of the old 60s/70s game show "The Golden Shot". (look up Bob Monkhouse", "The Golden Shot", "Bernie the bolt!") A crossbow was attached to a TV camera and steered by a blindfolded cameraman - the contestant steered the crossbow by shouting .. "up, down, down, left, left, up, up ,up, down, FIRE". Bernie was responsible for loading the crossbow bolt when commanded to do so.

You know o.o rats actually make amazing pets. They can learn tricks and they have complex social groups. OoO You know rats live in family groups and packs and they have been proven to show empathy for their group mates. Yeah. Rats suck. They found a way into my garage and into my tractor... found in cabin a lot of shredded foam/sound isolation and rat shit (smells horrible). They messed up tractor's electronics. One got stuck cabin's frame pipes and f*cking died. I'll have to remove the roof just to get it out.. I'm officially a rat hater now...
great vid...but would help a lot if you list the makes and model info of the gear used....what camcorder is it, is it 0lux or can you use a 3lux or higher....more info please
Very nice video. I've now bought a cheap Sony Handycam with Nighshot too. Which part(s) are used to connect the cameralens to the scope? I see 30mm-43mm on the part. But when i search on this on ebay i do not find the (about 2 inch long) part which fits on the scope's eyepiece.
Hawel Technology has newly developed two scope camera models NVS30 and NVS20, can record in a lower light situation, also with a 5W 850nm night vision lamp, UNIVERSAL adaptor for diameter size below 48mm, very convenient to focus, more advanced models will come out soon.
Awesome video, i used this video and i now have a setup for a springer air rifle. I would like to add that you don't need a IR laser, you could have a Nitecore CI6 flashlight for about €80. If you want to see my setup, send me a message.
How yea's all doin? I'm Glaswegian, canny own an Air Rifle up here anymore, but down in England you seem to have a massive rat pop! (pardon the pun). One tip i can give if your scope goes off zero. Once you've zeroed it, well get a candle, or (conle) lol as we say, light it, get zeroed, then drip the hot wax into your side sighter, and top, and let it cool down, then put the caps back on, and you're zeroed all night/day as the vibration will do nothing but keep you straight on yur wee rat...Paul.
I have this exact camera and I have just sorted my set up . Only problem I have is the crosshairs jumping around when I scan around. How do you get rid of this ? I have turned off autofocus but still seems to do it !!
Ah cheers. I was talking about this with a German friend the other day and he mentioned that in Britain, air guns legally have, or can have, a lot more power than in Germany... so I was wondering where the 12 ftlb fall in to. I just looked this up and it seems with that, the British limit is more than twice the German limit. But I guess still not enough to send a rabbit to heaven?
buy a hatsan and change the restriction valve for 10 euro and you have 50 ftlb inoffically ofcourse. not that i have done this but i have friends that have. :)
For a cheap scope mod, use a cheap automobile backup camera with a tiny monitor (2.4" screen $12-15 ebay) attached to a PVC plumbing fitting with epoxy ($5 for both). For the power supply, get a usb power module ($5 ebay). Use a cheap infrared flashlight that is based upon a Cree IR LED bulb (flashlight w/mounting kit and pressure switch for scope $16 ebay). Total, Approx $38-41 US. The PVC fitting with the camera epoxied to it should fit snugly around the rear scope eyepiece. If a little loose, wrap some electrical tape around the outside of the eyepiece until it is a snug press fit. Some people would be tempted to use a larger screen, but they should remember that the larger screen has a much larger mass. With recoil, the larger mass screen will place more stress upon the mounting system. Basically, the camera will want to move around more as you shoot. Screws can be used in the PVC fitting to tighten up the fitting to the scope, but too much pressure can and will damage the scope's eyepiece. If using a powerful springer, these will be critical considerations. Notes: The digital video screen for most car monitors runs off of USB power, or 5v DC. The cigarette lighter (power port in modern cars) adapter that comes with them converts 12v dc to 5v dc. The USB power modules use a 16550 battery and convert 3.7v to 5v for usb use. Hookup between the power module and the monitor is a simple standard USB to mini USB adapter cord which are a dime a dozen. This unit only has one extra item to mount, which is the power module. The power module I referenced is a simple tube shaped unit that a person can zip-tie to the scope tube. For a more professional look, you can buy a flashlight clamp like comes standard with the flashlight kit and mount the power module firmly to the other side of the scope tube for a few more dollars.
Your camera has a nozzle with rubber bands. I can not find the same. I beg you to let you know how it is called correctly. I have Sony too, thread diameter to 37 mm. lens. Please, specify the link where there is information. Thank you.
I live in the state of NJ....a gun permit is required for anything that "launches" a projectile. so even a slingshot requires a permit....don't ever believe america is free. it's a really nice smoke and mirrors trick
An airgun silencer is NOT an NFA item and doesn't require any payment (other than the actual purchase cost)... Actual firearm silencers are another matter...
I tried rat poison, smart traps, rat b-gon, and nothing had worked. This video provides good information about rat elimination when everything else had failed. Rats eat poison like it was candy and keep coming back for seconds. Next step lead!

Anyone who feels bad for these rats don't realize how much damage these little critters have done. They're nasty.
***** LOL. tupen has a point. I shoot a lot of them, but what they do IS instinctive. Can't blame them for that!

Nah, I think most intelligent people would know what ratting is, and just click away. That being said, this looks pretty fun.

I live in the state of NJ....a gun permit is required for anything that "launches" a projectile. so even a slingshot requires a permit....don't ever believe america is free. it's a really nice smoke and mirrors trick
Jason Shaw move to texas
An airgun silencer is NOT an NFA item and doesn't require any payment (other than the actual purchase cost)... Actual firearm silencers are another matter...
Great shots!!!
I wish I could kill animals. This looks like a good bit of fun but I couldn't kill a fly.

I tried rat poison, smart traps, rat b-gon, and nothing had worked. This video provides good information about rat elimination when everything else had failed. Rats eat poison like it was candy and keep coming back for seconds. Next step lead!

Super video, glad to see everyone else has comical discussions during their hunting too lol
